Adding Wireless CarPlay To the Smart 453 R-Link Stereo

Yes, you can keep your original R-Link smart media stereo and also have wireless CarPlay. However, just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
Does wireless CarPlay work? - Yes.
Can you listen to Spotify and Amazon Music etc? - Yes.
Can you listen to internet radio? - Yes if you have the correct app.
Do the steering wheel buttons work? - Yes.
Are there any down sides? - Yes.

11:39 Paused to type this so apologies if more detail comes later: I'll take a punt that the bridged reverse wires and V4 Reverse are for a reversing camera (unbridge and put in to maybe reversing switch circuit or similar).
The Other V's are likely Video too. Can it do something like Nissans "Birds Eye View" system where it uses front, rear and wingmirror cameras to stitch together the video?
If you've got a cheapo reversing camera or similar it might be worth plugging in to one of the yellow jacks to see what happens 🙃

I agree I think a Pioneer unit would be neater. The standard sound when playing via Bluetooth is not bad but appalling from the radio.

We just picked up a 2019 EQ Cabrio last week and the first thing I did was buy a wireless Android Auto adapter on Amazon for £30 and plug it into the USB port. Haven't had a single issue with and if the Carplay adapters are the same, I don't see why anyone would bother with all this faff!

Are you sure you have this TomTom unit (buttons and knob on same side) and not the facelift radio by Bosch that came out in 2019? (knob 1 side and button the other side).
Even so, the wireless adapters can only add wireless to what is already there. The TomTom radio had Android Auto so adding the adapter adds the wireless capabilities.
It doesn't have CarPlay so adding a CarPlay module does nothing.
