  • This is my 22 Tesla Model 3 Performance. Which is the same for all the Model 3 and likely all the Tesla's may have similar issues. Watch the video to see the crazy solution I came up with !
I'll share with you my most recent findings as the cause and the solution to the wind noises.
    The Good News!
I've likely mitigated the wind noise coming from the Driver's Side Window to the point of diminishing returns. I've reduced the noise so much that what I actually hear now is wind noise and road noise from all the other doors and windows.
I'm going to work on them next.

The shim method using duck tape really works. Took me 15 minutes and wind noise has significantly reduced. Trick is to find the gaps and install the shins at the right place. Thx

I'm glad it worked for you. It may need to be revisited over time. But I can't think of a better approach. It took me a lot of trial and error of various approaches to get to this shim approach. Thank you for your comment.

I think you have the seal rubbers deformed enough to go to service and replace by a new ones and mount them perfectly. Also I observe your front door is misaligned . Also is important to realign glass to get it tighter against rubber when rolling up. It may solve your problem. Glass should be as much aligned as possible to b pillar profile .

Well what do you think? Should this do the trick or do you think the other adjustments have to be made? Might be above my oay grade. Thank you!

I tried everything. Adjusting door striker, adjusting glass etc. That whistling noise was still there. Finally the fix was using a strip of thick paper same thickness as the saw blade you used at the b pillar both front and passenger b pillar to shim it. Whistling noise is gone now.

If you have a Gregs or place that has those thin wooden stirring stick things. Grab a load of them. Or some small silicone hose, stick it behind.

Thank you for your input. I found the hose a little to thick and more difficult to hold still than the method I'm sharing for shimming. But if it works, great!

The top corner looks a bit messy now tbh, and why is there a tape in the pillar glass? I eould bring it to a service center if I would have this issue. So far only interior rattles which have bent solved with some felt.

any advice for the corner of the window at the b pillar, the seal seems to close and forms a sort of dip that lets air completely in for me right at the corner of the window, Tesla has replaced the seal, tightened the door and the windows but still the corner seems to be a problem area

    • @Jon-ir9nu

Your window closes underneath the b pillar where mine sits somewhat above the b pillar if I run my finger along the Window is like 1/8th an inch higher than the b pillar where as yours seems to dip into the b pillar. Curious if I can tighten the door more since my door also sits higher than the rear passenger door. Tesla tightened my door slightly but I guess there is still room to go since my door and window fit more protruded than the rear or opposite side.

Why are you not insisting Tesla fix this.

    • @georgeborrelli3134

Some of us have taken our cars to the Tesla Service Center or had their mobile service come and address the issue. Some of us have had it addressed by Tesla more than once. Others, many times. While Tesla is VERY generous with their warranty, they could not totally resolve the issue. For me, if I need to take it into the Service Center, it's an all day affair and that's been a real pain. Sometimes they keep the car several days for a one hour repair. Since they have shown that in spite of all the adjustments and new door rubber they installed, they do not know what to do, I've decided to do the engineering, experimentation, and discover fixes on my own. I have the time and the engineering background and car repair background. I want to share it with everyone, including Tesla. If others can't get it resolved by Tesla Service, they now have relatively easy fixes they can DIY. Hope this helps your understanding and fully answers your question. It's a good question.

@@georgeborrelli3134 yes thank you. I just got my model 3 LR on Friday. I noticed the wind noise driving home. Began researching and found it was a common complaint for some time. I’m afraid I will have similar problems regarding service as the closest one is about 40 miles away. If I can fix it simply and inexpensively I’ll be indebted to you. Merry Christmas!
