  • How I train pigs from physical fences to psychological fences in 3 easy to understand steps. Every pig on our farm except weaning pigs are contained with some type of electric fence only. Here's how we do it!

    If there's a better series on pastured pigs, I've never seen it, thanks!

    I think this is the best way! Cheaper and easy to move. You hit the nail on the head with this training method.

    You mentioned that you have several different litters of weaners of different ages. How do you put these different groups of pigs together without them fighting? Great video btw.

      Merging piglets together at a young age with plenty of space in the pen is fairly painless. They might nip at each other for a few minutes but settle down quickly.

    Great video. I just got some piglets I'm going to raise to be breeders. They're in hog panels now with 2 strand to train them Hoping to let them out in the paddock next week. My concern is trying to keep the boar away from them when they first come into heat. I'm scared he'll bust through the strands. Have you had any issues with boars?

    • @FarmBuilder
      @FarmBuilder  Před 4 lety +1

      No but we dont raise them around gilts.

      Thank you for the response. Do you free feed your breeders or ration it out? How many years do you get out of your boars and sows? Thank you very much for your time.

    Why do you switch back and forth between single wire and netting?

  • @MrShazaamm
    @MrShazaamm Před 6 lety

    I don't use electric wire, I use a garden wire or chicken wire on the inside of my livestock cage. I slaughter my own but I just feel like I don't want to shock them, same with my cows and horses...

      how many pigs do you have?

    • @MrShazaamm
      @MrShazaamm Před 6 lety

      J.L. Freeman it's been a breeding process but they're Yorkshire mixed with a couple others

    • @j.l.freeman792
      @j.l.freeman792 Před 6 lety

      MrShazaam I have one bluebutt sow and 7 pigs now and I want to get some more when I can fence is my big holdup It would be a lot faster and easier for me to use a hot wire until I can do better I can't move them around like Jordon.

    • @MrShazaamm
      @MrShazaamm Před 6 lety

      J.L. Freeman , it seems like it's more difficult than it should be, all you need is treated posts in the corner and t posts every 5 foot. I used livestock panels 20$ for 16 ft. I also have tons of livestock wire. I put up a 30×30 pen and another for my boar in several hours.
      It took 2 week for my horses and cows.
      My point is, if the pen s so difficult then you probably don't need more pigs...

      MrShazaamm from the start you said you don't use electric wire you said you use chicken wire and on and on my point IS I think you are FULL OF SHIT

    • @FarmBuilder
      @FarmBuilder  Před 6 lety

      Interesting. Can you give more details? Were they previously fence trained? Did you use a wire and physical barrier to train them for a few weeks prior?

    • @hootsechrest223
      @hootsechrest223 Před 6 lety

      i tried it all my boar got shocked and trampled the electric wire. I got hog fence and put 6 inch pine logs on the bottom. no more problems.

    • @mattross9705
      @mattross9705 Před 3 lety +1

      I use single on all my pigs, including my 400 lb boar. No issues, keep them feed and grass to eat. No reason to leave then.
