  • Selden claimed that he owned the patent for the automobile. Henry Ford was not going to let that stop him with the production of his new Ford Model T vehicle. Both men made cars before and after a Patent Infringement lawsuit filed against Henry Ford and Ford Motor Company. Find out who won and what happened with the lawsuit and the patent in this video.

When I am not making images for my normal (if there is such a thing) bodies of work as a photographer, I make plenty of fun videos for my Model A or other related videos from that time period that you can find on this channel too. Be sure to check them out.
As to gear, I shoot a variety of full frame Nikon cameras and lenses. Most everything is shot on a tripod to produce the sharpest images possible.

My 1930 Ford Town Sedan has eyebrow fenders and still has the original interior. It's certainly worn but it still is functional. I have rebuilt the driveline, suspension, and tie rods, installed a modernized Model A motor with oversized intake valves, insert bearings, and a high compression head. I also have a lightened flywheel and V8 clutch. The car comfortably cruises at 50MPH but I've had it up to 60MPH. I have also insulated and installed sound deadener which has made the car enjoyable to be in even at 90 degrees.

Something that is not mentioned nor is easy to find confirmed information on is if Seldon himself was sued for patent infringement for his use of the steering wheel on his cars which he started using shortly after it's invention by Mr Jeffery and its introduction on the Rambler. (Yes, the very first car to use a steering wheel was the Rambler.)

There were several prototypes of auto being built all over the world, but being from Rochester, NY, and having heard my dad talk about Selden, I'm happy to know one of the important prototypes was built in my home town - THANKS!

Yeah, it's a big topic- I've addressed it on my channel as well. Here's a trivia tidbit- George Eastman also had much influence on another make of car- the Stanley. The Stanley brothers sold their photography business to Eastman and used the money to establish the Stanley Steam Car Company. I'm curious- Why not mention William Collins Whitney? He was the brains and money behind ALAM. Selden was nothing but a scapegoat/buffer against political whiplash.

I have heard a rumor that John Rockefeller supported Ford in this fight, knowing that there would be a new market for oil products. He was losing kerosene business due to the electric light. Anyone know if this is true?

He did support Ford, but more importantly supported Carl Fisher; who, with his partner James Allison, was a major player in the pre-WWI lighting aftermarket producing acetylene headlights. Most American Auto manufacturers used their lights for their cars (including Ford), much in the way that Stewart-Warner filled the dashboards.
