I just need a beginner's simple tutorial on how to change a background color on a portrait. Can you point me to one? I'm using Photoshop CC 2017 on a Mac. I can do the select and mask but don't know how to change the background from white to gray. That's all I want. Help?
After I made the trees into a smart object the black and white option is greyed out under adjustments and RGB color is selected ,same for 8Bits/Channel . you know why?
for some reason @3:11 those options are unavailable to me I've made sure I've selected the layer and that its been converted to smart object but those options are grayed out

I was having the same issue, if you make the adjustments prior to converting, everything will work as it should!

Nice double exposure, eyes' colors effect looks a bit too strong. But the photomontage works pretty well ! ;)

When i go to add my second photo nothing happens, when i hit Ctrl T i get this "could not transform because the initial bounding rectangle is empty"
My photoshop don't have that option in the early beginning to add a mask, not with the quick selection tool, is there another way to add the mask?

You didn't do anything wrong. Head up to Image - Mode make sure RGB color is selected and 8Bits/Channel is selected. Hope this helps. :)
