जो लोग कहते हैं कि हम हिंदू हैं वह लोग असल में सनातनी है और हिंदू नाम तो सिंधु नदी से आया है जो विदेशी पारसी लोगों ने दिया था. प्राचीन समय में जो लोग सिंधु नदी के पास रहते थे उन्हें पारसी लोग सिंधु के बदले हिंदू कहते थे, सिंधु नदी के आजू-बाजू रहने वाले लोग सनातन धर्म का पालन करते थे यानी कि हिंदू कोई धर्म नहीं है
अतः यह समझा जा सकता है कि आज़ादी के दिन 15 अगस्त 1947 को जिन भौगोलिक सीमाओं की स्थिति के साथ अंग्रेजों से इस भूभाग के निवासियों को राजनैतिक हस्तांतरण प्राप्त हुआ वह ऐतिहासिक रूप से एक नया और अभूतपूर्व राष्ट्र था जिसे इंडिया अथवा कोई अन्य नाम दिए जाने का विकल्प उपलब्ध था। अतएव, India that is Bharat का विकल्प उपयुक्त समझा गया। इस पृष्ठभूमि में अखंड भारत की अवधारणा पर भी स्पष्टता की आवश्यकता है।
जैसा की आपने कहा की और भी कई भाषाओं में भारत को अलग अलग नाम दिए गए हैं। तो हम केवल इंडिया को या हिंदुस्तान को ही क्यों उपयोग करते हैं? इसका कारण है की इन्हीं विदेशी नाम देने वाले लोगों ने हमसे गुलामी करवाई है। और अपने दिए हुए नाम हमारे ऊपर थोपे हैं। इसलिए अब समय है वापस अपने खुदके नाम को चुनने का, एंडोनिम्स को आज पूरी दुनिया स्वीकार रही है, एग्जोनिम को साधारण भाषा में उपयोग कर सकते हैं कोई परेशानी नहीं है, मगर ऑफिशियली केवल भारत नाम ही रहना चाहिए।
कहा जाता है कोलम्बस शुरूवात मे भारत उनालोगो की भाषा मे India पहुँचने के लिए निकला था लेकिन भूलवस पश्चिम के तरफ निकल गया बहुत दिनो की समुद्री यात्रा के बाद बहुत दूर उसे कुछ जमीन दिखाइ दिया। वह खुस होकर अपना दुरबिन उठाकर देखने लगा लेकिन वहाँ तो बहुत से छोटे छोटे ilands थे। इसलीए उसने अपने सहकर्मी नाविको से कहा It's not India, it's Indies. उसे लगा, उसने जो सुना था कि India एक बहुत बडा mainland है, झूठ था। जब वह islands पर उतरकर अध्ययन किया तब उसे पता चला कि वह भारत की खोज मे पूरब नही पश्चिम पहुच गया है और उन ilands को West Indies कहा गया। यह घटना प्रथम अग्रेज के भारत पहुचने(1608 AD) से करीब 116 साल पहले (1492AD) हुआ था।

As a South Indian, I find all the above is information is restricted only to the political history of North India. Why should the name Bharat be imposed on us? Completely unnecessary step by the Union Government. Further, such an important step as renaming a country has to be considered by all the assemblies of all the states in the Country and a wider consultative process involving the public.
