I’m loving the series. These two actors are great in their characters. I can’t wait for next Sunday for the 4th episode. It’s an extra treat for me because I’ve been to Versailles 4 times(I really love that style) and fountainebleau once so I’m really wishing I could get onto a plane and return (from California). There better be a season 2 and 3.
This show is so good!! Binge watch it for one night.. I'm on the last episode ryt now which is Ep.8 and I didn't wana finish it yet cz I don't want it to end!! I know I probably have to wait another year or 2 years for the 2nd season to come out!!! I'm so happy this show is getting the recognition it deserves!!
I'm a late French here ! A week ago, I rushed to the store to get my DVD set. I don't know how I have missed this. I have always been fascinated by the strange relationship between Marie- Antoinette and Louis. For sure, they were no regular couple . I am so happy to get this depiction of it. Louis is definitely a peculiar character in the French history. No one can really know his real personality. He is surrounded by kind of a mystery. His personality has been distorted and interpreted in very different ways. But if you visit the Chapelle Expiatoire in Paris you can see the renditions of Louis and Marie as seen by their daughter Madame Royale, who is the only surviving daughter of the 4 children they got. And I guess, their daughter knew them for real. In the end, they became the epitome of the traditional husband/ wife couple with complete devotion to each other. Thank you so much for this work. It made me so happy. I'm about to watch the last episode of season 1 and then it will feel so empty !
Emilia knocked me out! Espethe gambling scene where Louis comes and grabs her forcefully and drags her off. She was hysterical! I roared!! She was sooo good!
IKR? I'm surprised that in none of the interviews with Louis Cunningham that I have seen (so far), he hasn't been asked about this! He is a direct descendant of Charles X, Louis XVI's youngest brother! He is literally playing his own ancestral great-uncle (Louis XVI) some 9 or 10 generations removed! Marie-Antoinette is his ancestral great-aunt through marriage, 9 or 10 generations removed! His Royal lineage has been mentioned in some articles, but even in those no journalist asked him about his famous yet tragic ancestors!
@@athenstar10 He does! 🤣 Actually, on a Marie-Antoinette message board that I stumbled upon, someone posted a picture of Louis next to a portrait of his ancestral great-uncle, a young Louis XVI - same aristocratic or should I say Royal nose! Even their blue eyes looked similar!
The whole time period between the monarchy, the revolution, the whole Napoleon thing, then Louis's brother put back on the throne is a bizarre and dark comedy. Unintentionally hilarious and tragic.
Interesting fact. Before the French Revolution, French was much more popular than English. For example, Catherine the Great corresponded only in French with all the thinkers of those times.
This is good like Reign (2013-2017) is good (Not that good.) but better because it actually deals with the topic well. There is conflict and, okay the story does drag a bit while zooming past events although that does allow us to see Maria-Antonia's perspective so a double-edged sword. I surprisingly did not hate it and am glad that Louis XVI got a decent wrap (Portrayed fairly well, I especially like how he is withdrawn.). Not enough horology or locksmithing though.
This drama reflect the ruling elite of france before 1789 it bring out the grand and elegant of queen marie antonnie and her husband king louis the sixteent of france.
There is also going to be a season 3. Season 1 covers the first 10 years of Louis and Antoinette's marriage. The next season will apparently go up to when the troubles begin and I assume that season 3 will sadly end with their deaths at the guillotine.
A victim of cancel culture and fake news???? THEY CUT OFF HER HEAD!!! Being an avid French history buff, this new version (and it ia exactly that--a "version") of Marie Antoinette was SO disappointing, I am at a loss for words! And for an actress needing to discuss Marie Antoinette's "Trauma" and how that helped her connect is laughable! No, it's just plain upsetting! The actual history and the actual story itself is so wonderful, we don't need two young actors to "think what it must have been like"--we have historical accounts of it all! Louis' diaries, Marie Antoinette's letters, the courtiers accounts of what was ACTUALLY said, and what actually happened in scenes like when Marie gave birth.... that is HISTORY!! And this interview, her feeling like she was getting into character bc of the trauma she felt having to spend hours being fitted (OH! the TRAUMA of it all...!) They could have actually learned about their characters, and gotten into them, by reading about them--no need to guess! How are we supposed to relate to the historical characters when the actors have changed what happened??? So sad!
Take it easy. The series is fiction, not a documentary. Do you think it was pleasant for me as a Russian to see "Great"? It’s definitely not a historical film where black humor and toilet humor are used. And I understand it perfectly. If you want a real historical film about Marie Antoinette, then watch the film Austrian (L'Autrichienne) 1990. But it is only in French and Russian.
The actors aren't responsible for changing anything. They are merely acting out the roles that were written by the screenwriter/s, while also taking their cues from the director!
I am also a history nerd and I have enjoyed the series for what it is. Yes there is history and also we are allowed to have our own view on it. You know, even the way history has been transmitted through centuries is not an absolute picture of what it was in reality. I mean it's already distorted. So just take it easy and let us enjoy a bit of romance.
I'm in love with this Louis guy, everything about him mesmerizes me 🤩
I am too
Same!
Yea its ridiculous isnt it! I'm glad somebody else feels like that. He's just adorable ❤
Me too🥺🥺🥺
you are not alone 😅
Emilia Schule is absolutely fabulous as Toinette. Deserves some awards for her performance. Louis is excellent too.
They are both adorable, lovely young people. Love the series. Well done, all! Can’t wait for season 2! ❤
Just watched the whole series. It was so good, the acting so good. Can’t wait for series 2

This is one of the best series that I have seen
Their acting was good, especially Louis in the beginning episode, wasn't easy not talking but you were still deliver how you're feeling

Amazing . Loved this series please hurry with season 2 👍👍
Well done! Person who did this is really romantic in life. Pleasure to watch. Thank you.
Amo la voz de Louis 💓
Louis is a very handsome guy, he has a nice face
He does! I love his deep voice too! 😍💞💞💞
Louis i love u
Emilia knocked me out! Espethe gambling scene where Louis comes and grabs her forcefully and drags her off. She was hysterical! I roared!! She was sooo good!
Especially...not espeth
Actually, that was Antoinette's brother Joseph who grabbed her and dragged her away.
It was Joseph, the brother of Marie Antoinette.
I Lovvvve it and Emilia is just fab❤ great acting and perspective
I wonder how he felt going to Versailles, which was his ancestor's former residence and playing one of them?

Emilia is very pretty
She's hot, couldn't believe she was in her 30's, she looks like a teenager.
Really excellent series 👌 Well done All!
season 2 please

I am watching the series on PBS Buffalo/Toronto. I love it! So stylish, edgy , humorous and yes…a bit “ punk.”
Czekam na 2 sezon. Serial rewelacja i Wasza aktorska gra. Extra @--->>-----
Hard to believe Emilia when she says she doesn't know French, because her English is perfect!
English is easy to learn, not French.
@@mrnbdn I'm bilingual myself (German's my second language). I'm not sure which to believe 😄

Love this series; I've learned so much more about their real lives & all the propaganda surrounding their reign!
Louis 😍😍😍💋💋💋 i love u
Marie Antoinette wasn't feminist. And why not an Austrian Actress?
Actress is, however, ethnic German
