I just bought one. It is fantastic. By far the best car I've ever owned or driven. I couldn't be happier.
This is exactly what the US needs, a reasonably priced Hybrid SUV. The vast majority of people just need a high MPG vehicle to get things done, and this is a great start. It's no mystery why manufactures didn't have this technology 15 years ago (Cheep fuel prices and powerful corporations) but it's great to see it now. I would love to only stop for gas once a month - or Never when I take delivery of my Rivian R1T.
Reasonably priced? Is been 4 months after your comment and there's still very few with high mark ups. My local dealer has a $5k.
This is seriously the first non-electric (non 100% electric, I mean) car that has me pondering giving up on having a stick-shift. I sat in an up-level one and was astonished at how nice the interior was.
Growing up in the 90s-00s, Kia was a throwaway brand. Cheap, crappy cars. But damn it appears that generation of Kia is dead and gone. They are just catching wins after wins. And I’m living for it. Can’t wait to start seeing these on lots, might be time to jump ship.
Now we need to bring back Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Mazda. So far Nissan has been doing great with the new Rogue and Pathfinder.
@@ACZcamsChannelwithNoName Agreed! I felt like Mazda was headed down the right path a few years ago, but have since started falling behind. Design is getting dated, no touch screens, etc.
@@ACZcamsChannelwithNoName I’m excited to see what comes of the Nissan/Mitsubishi partnership starting with the Outlander.
I grew up in those days too, actually test drove a brand new Kia Sephia in 1998 when I was 14 at a newly built Kia/Daewoo dealership lol, me and a friend of mine walked there on a random Friday after school to laugh at the cars instead of going to the mall, the young sales guy who didn't look much older than us didn't ask for my license, didn't attempt to ride with me, just threw me the keys when I jokingly said I might buy it. I think I put 40+ miles on that turd in the hour or so that we were gone with it that day. I still remember how lame we thought that car was even as 14 year old delinquents who just wanted to drive anything.
The cars are getting better, but the dealership and service center are worse than ever.
This is much better looking and more tech than the prime.
I would say the rav 4 prime is much more advanced in terms of technology with user friendly infotainment as well as a variety of safety features.
@@canadianaviator There’s nothing user friendly about Toyota’s Entune infotainment. Among the worst in the business.
The tech is better for sure. But looks are subjective and we believe Toyota has significantly better hybrid tech.
This is the exact trim and color combo I’m waiting to order ! Thank for a thorough review as always ! What type of extra care would I need for a factory matte paint?
Hey, I really like the format of this video! You and Tommy having a convo about the car makes for a super engaging watch! This one’s on my shopping list - thanks for the deep dive.
This definitely looks like the best interior for
@@omytupapa the new crv looks soo good too. I wish we knew how much it’s gonna be and stuff
I never imagined myself wanting a Kia but I may actually check one of these out.
Love you guys together !!! Awesome collab
This was a cool video, I enjoyed the collaboration and the car convo. I actually like the different design. The interior is really nice. The space is great for the money. Only down side is it’s slow.
I like this duo together. More please!
Finally it came out .. i was waiting for this review thanks
SUPER cool seeing Tommy on the channel. A great review and awesome seeing you guys bounce thoughts off each other
Bought this exact car used with 14k Miles. Matte pain with red carmine seats. Bought it in San Diego for 38k. Dealerships marking this up 5-10k above msrp, cheapest I found was 2k mark up.
great job on the review. Very in depth and the road test is extremely useful
Hi Sofyan! Always love your comprehensive reviews. I have been a fan for a while. (it's "boxier" not "more boxier" though ;) ) Thanks for your reviews!
I like this better than the Tucson IMO. Tucson looks good but I like the look of this better and the interior is much better without the extreme amount of gloss black.
The Tucson is nice because it has the heated rear seats. For Kia you have to step up to the Sorento
It’s funny. People feel pretty strongly one way or the other. I think both are cool. But for me, the Kia styling feels like it’s trying too hard. The Tucson looks stylish, but sporty without pushing into Star Trek territory. I also like the Tucson’s wireless CarPlay and in the SEL trim, more physical buttons. But both are real upgrades over vanilla previous generations.
Oh how I have been waiting for this review 🥳
Thank you so much for this review. Please what color is on the car exterior?
I have the 2023 XPro Prestige (top trim) in green, Matte black rims, fully blacked out roof (Range Rover style) with the mint/sage green seats to match. It’s a awesome, comfortable, teched out vehicle. Smooth and pretty quick as well. I Reccomend it to anyone. It also gets a decent amount of attention because of how it stands out.
I agree! I love my SX prestige. Idk how he can say the Tucson looks better. Although dealers are hyping the price sadly
@@yourcatalyst22 oh yeah it’s probably not a good move anymore because of the price hike
I thought I'll give kia a look , I've always liked them even when they came out with the soul. I decided to reach out to some dealers. Kia has leveled up and has outshined a lot of people including vw when it comes to interior design.
Just discover this channel. Good stuff. Subscribed.
Everything's good except that Kia forgot about the adaptive cruise control on lower trims. Going to be a deal breaker for so many.
love having my two fav car reviews guy on the same video.
Sofyan, review dari kamu selalu menarik, love it 👍🏻👍🏻, greetings from CA 😉
Palms to Pines baby! Great road and review.
Sofyan, will the auto in or out first straighten the front wheel before moving backward or forward?
I saw one of these at a gas station About a month ago. It looks very nice and upscale.
Im co fused because many sources stated they werent out yet or being sold up to a couple of weeks after that.
Anywho, ive been looking at hybrid/ev options and i may ad well add this to my list to test drive and check out...the list is getting long lol and its a lot of Hyundai/Kia/Genesis lol
Funny how that turned out
Went to test drive this car and I love it but dealerships in FL want 10k more than MSRP. I'm good lol
Great Review!
I own a PHEV Sportage in Vesta Blue/Black X-Line, and on order a Hybrid Sportage in Matte Gray/Red SX Prestige. When my PHEV isn’t in service (many issues never ending), it’s my favorite car I’ve ever owned.
For the hybrid, do you still need to plug in to charge or it will charge by itself when you use gas?
my coworker and i was just talking about how he had a crappy 1st gen sportage years ago bought to run errands and haul cargo. Hyundai and Kia has came a long way and we both felt in a lot of ways they have surpass the Japanese brands.
I feel like the Sorento fulfills the "baby Telluride" type vehicles. I think the Sportage is unique and much needed.
You two are great fun together!
HOW do they do the overhead and perimeter scans on the camera? Does it have a drone that follows you around?
Thanks Sofyan. I always look forward to your reviews. I still smile everytime I see a Ford Escape on the road (Those F'n geese) lol.
FYI, for Koreans who are the most picky in the world in choosing cars &appliances Sportage HEV has been the best selling car for a couple of years.
How does it handle steep hills? I'm starting to look for a new car. I've had a 2006 Sportage and it was my favorite car.
I had an 07 Kia Sportage for 13 years and loved it. Currently in a Kia Sorento, would definitely consider this 5th gen Sportage with the 2.5 gasoline engine. Looks much improved on the interior!
I love the interior and the exterior.
The interior look sexy ASF! KIA is doing a great job in this department 👏
Nice colab with Tommy.
no power folding mirrors? or was the setting just off
Believe it or not around where I live the Virginia Maryland and DC area I’ve seen plenty of these mostly near the base model and does it look really distinctive when u see it coming towards u. Even more distinctive from a telluride and that already had a very unique look. So glad kia decided to offer a PHEV since not all vehicles in the segment have one and with gas prices in 2022 this was a much needed thing. Tech is amazing and out of this class.Kia has been really innovative recently and with this new sportage, it’s a hit. Great Job Kia! And keep up the excellent work Soyfan.
I remember feeing like an oddball when I drove to the DMV area last summer, felt like I was driving the only American car on the road for the most part lol. Even had a couple young guys ask me what kind of car I was driving while I pumped gas which seemed crazy to me since where I live it's just a dime-a-dozen 2019 Chevy Impala lol.
Does this have interior ambient lighting as an option?
Does EX hybrid non-premium package have ambient lighting?
Nice looking SUV. Packed with tech.
I'm thinking these will lease well. I wish they were more powerful...perhaps a GT model using the Kona N engine.
Great review, but I'm wondering if you were late for an appointment when you did it.
I have the 2017 Kia Sportage. I love it minus the recalls which Kia does fix every recall with no issues no problems I just want to know is it worth upgrading to the 2023 Kia Sportage hybrid versus the Toyota RAV4 hybrid?
Matte paints dont scratch as easily as gloss paint. So if you get scratches from the car wash in your matte paint, then you'll get much more in the gloss paint. The big issue with car washes is they use soap that has chemicals/waxes to make your car shiny, so it will mess up the matte look.
All matte paints look great, however, in the northeast with snow and salt, not a good choice.
Tinting the top portion of that windshield
should improve the infotainment/tact
visibility.
I believe you can change the color of the car in 360 camera in the settings. All the other KIA/Hyundai do
I bought this exact model! Love it!
Did the dealer have any markups? Just looked at one today and it was a $7k mark up!
Been shopping for a Hybrid for about 3 months. Test drove this one HEV (SX PRESTIGE). Was a no brainer. Fully loaded (had to add the towing package) Tax, title, license, a couple of other bs state fees, extended 11 year bumper to bumper warrantee (no deductible includes oil changes). Be prepared to pay about 5k more over actual MSRP due to shortage. Everything mentioned 55k out the door. I'm very happy with my purchase. Mercedes, BMW, Toyota, Audi don't have half the upgrades. If this SUV had any of those emblems on it, I'm sure they would easily charge in the 80-90k price range. Highly recommend this SUV!!! LOVING IT.
You should not have pay above MSRP. How can prices ce down if people pay more? Makes no sense. I still refuse to pay a penny above.
The turbo in the previous model was so much fun to drive...im looking for that option with this new generation
This is the closest you are going to get to the previous model, and that's sad. Instead, step up to the AWD Sorento with its turbo.
That 2.0L turbo was sooooo sluggish. It was nice in theory but the performance was bad.
I have to agree I have a 2017 Sportage SX turbo and when you punch it gets up and goes
Is that Suburu Outback still following you?
Any news on the PHEV model ?
Does this have the keyless app features and keycard feature where u can drive without the actual keys ????
You and Tommy should do more in depth videos .. ..
From the U.K. my understanding is that the infotainment system is capable of wireless Apple car play & Android auto. It’s missing because of a licensing dispute between Kia and the vendors and not because of a lack of capability of the system.
Call me crazy but very nice looking car and that paint is beautiful 😍!
I am sold. Definitely a winner. Can’t wait to get one 😊
We Americans get the long wheelbase version of the Sportage (along with the Chinese market). The KDM and European 🇪🇺 variant is the short wheelbase
I am now hesitant between this car and the VW Taos… thanks for the video!
Motorweek got 7.7 for 0-60. We got one, it is peppy. We found the drive to better than the Toyota and Honda that we tried. Love it. Insurance on the plug in cars is crazy.
I'm test driving a Kia Sportage this weekend.
Why don't they have the wolf grey for the hybrid?
I like this color combination! I would love to get the Carmine Red interior (which really looks similar to the brown leather available on the Sorento) with the Vesta Blue exterior instead of having to pay extra for a metallic or matte gray. The matte gray looks better than the metallic gray but the matte one is a little bit more $ compared to the metallic gray. The matte gray almost looks like a matte silver or blue hybrid. I would get the Vesta Blue exterior color but I don't want the black SynTex leatherette in a sea of black plastic & gloss black. That would
just be so dark, dull, & boring imo lol. I prefer a color in the interior over black which is basic. In fact the Misty Gray (which really looks like white) with Triton Navy from the EX trim would look perfect on the SX Prestige as well with the Vesta Blue exterior color
The Vesta Blue exterior with the blue/light gray interior is really nice too and different-looking!
The EU version of this car with the 1.6 hybrid goes 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in around 7.5-7.7 sec, seen on multiple reviews, where Kia quotes 8.3 sec. The US version is bigger however, so it gets slightly less mileage and might be a bit slower, but 9.5 sec sounds excessive to me.
@@michaels3003 that does not matter this much, it`s a turbo 1.6 and an electric motor, so altitude barely affects it. We will have to wait once he tests it out on his usual ground. :) Our own Sportage is coming in about 2 weeks, but I would not be doing 0-60s until some engine break-in lol.
They changed the screen ratio of the video. Now it can fulfill the iPhone screen. Thank you for this nice touch.
Can you please review the sx prestige Kia Sportage
I like the look and it different so it won’t get lost in the parking lots
I really wished they never took out power folding mirrors also would be very nice if it had the EV6 HUD . Kinda crazy know their is no wireless apple CarPlay
I wanted to get one but, I don't understand why the Ex trim gets Led headlights and the Sx Prestige gets projector headlights. Why is the projector on the top trim?
I just got a 2022 Tucson Hybrid (SEL) and I'm averaging about 27mpg. I do get the advertised 37 city sometimes (usually 34) but I only get about 24 highway. No clue how to get 36mpg highway. I even turn off the air conditioning and tried driving at 65mph. I know the car doesn't have a heat pump so I know it will only get worse during Minnesota winters (and I drive with a light foot too). Love my car, just blows you don't get the advertised MPG.
John, keep in mind that with a breaking in a new engine, it takes time to loosen things up. (Think of the human body first thing in the morning, you're stiff and don't move as easily until you've had time to warm up the joints and stretch), same applies to engines. You'll find as you put more miles on the engine your mileage will improve. Also, other things to take into consideration that can have a negative impact on mileage, don't drive it like you stole it, stop'n go traffic (gas models), road and weather conditions, road inclines, load carried on the vehicle (# of passengers & payload), proper tire inflation, tire alignment and balancing. Also, I tend to be a bit bias in regard to the accuracy of the EPA stated mileage, as I don't think the tests take into consideration the above outlined items in their real-world testing. I've owned two Hyundai products, and still have my '15 Elantra Limited (purchased Dec 2014). I've had minimal mechanical issues in the 7.5 years of ownership and have gotten close to the EPA quoted mileage some of the time, but not all of the time. Lastly, I find that the "average mileage" the car's computer states, versus the actual mileage obtained at time of fill up will differ, and that's where I determine my actual mpg.
I have the exact same vehicle and mileage varies quite a bit. Drove in 40-50 mph wind at 80 mph and got very low 20s and even under 20 for mpg. In Northern winter basically averaged very high 20s. As soon as temps increase mpg goes way up. I can get high 30s and even 40s on trips around town. As with most hybrids mpg starts to fall off over 65mph. Also turbo seems to make mpg touchy. Sometimes I find that it’s almost better to drive it normally and get right up to speed from a stop for example rather than trying to baby it. That allows the battery to kick in and take over once you’re up to speed. The engine wants to keep engaging sometimes even if you’re accelerating very slowly. It’s almost inefficient to try and maximize the mpg in that way. I do have a fair amount of hills in my area which can’t help mpg. Overall this does not appear to get the same mpg as a RAV4 hybrid but I wanted the mechanical AWD-it definitely has a better feel than the RAV4 in that way. Both the Tucson and Sportage are also far more updated than the competition. I didn’t want tech that was already dated when I bought it.
@@jpnorth3557 Agreed, I actually like the Mechanical AWD and I'm okay sacrificing a little MPG to get that. Although I don't know if hyundai&kia has a more sophisticated AWD system where the shaft isn't spinning to maximize MPG. For sure the technology is leaps ahead of Honda and Toyota. I purposely went with the SEL model to get wireless apple car play and then just payed $1700 to install leather and add heated rear seats, and the nice part is that its a leather color and design that I want). Only thing missing that I wish I had was a heated steering wheel, and it would be pretty cool to have a heated windshield (don't know why Kia has it and Hyundai doesn't). I think the best technique to maximize MPG for me has been once i'm over 50mpg to switch to sports mode to get as much charge as I can then switch it back to eco mode to use the battery. Once it gets to half life I switch it back. The battery can only get to max life in sport mode.
@@BasicTruth4You thanks for the tip I will try this out! frustrated with my 30mpg average after 2500 miles.
I remember you were very impressed with the tuson hybrid performance how come this feels slower even though it has the same power and set up
I think it’s because Hyundai Group made a different ECU just for Kia models so that’s why it’s slower…
@@dakrawnik4208 this is about 100 lbs heavier than the Tucson. There was something about this car that felt noticeably more lethargic. We’d need to drive the cars back to back to be sure.
Also it might be due to being In the high hills and being above sea level.

Very Nice Bro! Get Good People!
Cool . . . a Redline/TFL mash-up!
Portland, JAMAICA in The Building !!!!!!!!!
Love this vehicle. I got mine at 37k plus a few extra hundred dollars total. It's got well over 80 MPG!! Frickin 80 bruhh!! Yall will love it if you have the chance.. Just don't ever get a CVT transmission!! Never even think about it!! Always make sure you get a vehicle with a 6-Speed or 8-Speed Automatic Transmission!!! Never anything else!! CVT's break down so bad and over a short period of time it just goes to shiiit!! Also controls how fast you can drive too! Overheats quick and makes the vehicle stop or slow down significantly!! Then you have to wait for it to cool off!!.. So, that being said, there us more to it BUT just don't ever get a CVT transmission!!... This Kia Sportage is amazing wether it's the hybrid or regular gas only version!! The sunroof is awesome I have to throw that in there because it's to wiflde and long it covers pretty much the entire top of the vehicle AND it has a sun shade that covers the top while it's open of needed!!.. All the seats lay flat down for camping out or transporting tools or groceries or anything else.. It has MANY SAFETY warnings that it let's you know about such as letting you know if someone is driving too close to you and vice versa, it was other warning signals to help you drive better and indicates to you many other things that would help so many people be much safer. UHMM the front seats are heated, it has a huge touch screen display up front (12.3" display) with Google maps of course and other apps with many settings for the vehicle including the radio and how it sounds. The speakers are amazing! I personally have the bass almost all the way up with other settings adjusted for music and phone calls so they're nice and clear or bump real good... It's just all around a great vehicle and I'm in love with it!! Oh and if you too have kids the back seats are very spacious without even having to move the front seats up too much at all!!.. Enjoy lol
AWD available?
Agree with Tommy that the paint doesn’t match a car in this price point. The paint won’t be properly cared for. Most will go through car washes and get destroyed. Looks great brand new but unless you’re committed to hand washing regularly with the correct products. Or getting your sub 40k vehicle covered with paint protection film, it won’t last.
Like the exterior stying and the ground clearance on AWD.
I put a deposit down last weekend on the Vesta Blue Hybrid SX Prestige with the Black Saturn interior in Texas. Will see if I ever get it or have to change exterior colors. Great video!
Weird criticisms this is a family car, not a race car. who cares about about how fast it can go, do you feel safe merging on to the highway... yes? then its perfectly fine.
Love it, but I totally agree...why don't they offer the XPro in the hybrid?
Major issue of gas version is mpg of awd , on highway it drops a huge 4 miles comparing to fwd. Previous model had another major con: cabin sounded like freight train on highway, and I was reading some reviews saying the same about this one.
I am trying to understand this.
The 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid FWD is rated at 42+ mpg. The AWD one at 38 mpg.
It has Active Center-Locking differential.
As I understand it, it would normally drive in FWD mode, and apply power to rear wheels (AWD) when needed.
Since I would drive on dry roads good part of a year, would I not be getting FWD kind of mileage, 40+mpg ?
Also, one can lock the differential in AWD mode vía the dial switch.
Why do they not offer a FWD lock option as well ?? Best of both worlds.
Tommie is really feeling you!!
I'd stick to the base model LX or step up to the EX and add the sunroof package and get it with the blue interior and the blue exterior. Good standard car for $28500 and the EX model is a great value pack at $33500. If you're just gonna get the black interior I say stick to the base model hybrid.
@@sirjared21 It can't be a hard aftermarket install, especially if you are just adding unbraked loads or bicycles.
@@avery4528 good point. This seems like THE small suv to get in terms of styling and features. And hopefully the hybrid system is reliable given how many years it's been around - just started researching
My next daily driver. Thanks Sofyan.
Does it have self driving
Not a very impressive 0-60 time, though I'm more interested in its rolling start (5-60 mph) time, peak torque production, and passing time going from 50-70 mph. And the braking. I can't live with squishy brakes and long stopping distances. I do like the styling, both exterior and interior. Nice-looking ride.
That is a damn beautiful utility vehicle. Its sexy it might be the best looking the market by far.
Does kia/hyundai still have engine problems that will cause it to go up in flames?
very good design
I like the styling more than Sofyan does. His references are conservative, and I'm an OLD dude. Yeah, some Kia's (and Hyundai's) may be overreaching but I think this one will age fine.
the looks are very nice and the interior too
Thanks for having me Sofyan! This was tons of fun!!
Anytime! We would have given you a solid 8/10 for that Scandinavian flick in the dirt :D
@@theredline I think it's something's wrong with your Sportage hybrid because 0 to 60 should come in 7 seconds or maybe something was wrong with your equipment but yeah normal 0 to 60 should be seven seconds
BEWARE of system failure in Kia in few months time. Lacks quality and service. I have personally experienced this. Does any one know if we had these kind of problems on Toyota or Honda? I should have opted for Toyota or Honda. But instead went with fancy “Kia Sportage 2023” and it’s not working now. I don’t know if it’s a quality issue or the way the dealership is taking care of new vehicles. But this is a serious issue for 40k worth car
I like everything about the car
