Song so good Dogen had to break it down like a college professor
Cool break down. The song probably not gonna convert any western hip-hop/rap fans, but it feels like it has potential to bring in people in the same way Psy did with Gangnam Style.
First reaction: it's Dogen!
2nd: Huh 30 seconds in where's the joke
3rd: THIS IS 20 MINUTES LONG?
@@kinositajona Like the other comment mentioned, I still can't tell whether to take this seriously or not
Yeah, Dogen does fake outs so often that i can never trust any of his videos to be real.😅
The joke was the friends we made along the way
Not long enough!
Wait, this was 20 minutes long?
I really liked "高級車は買える免許は無い愛車 (green, green)" - He's flexing that he can buy a car without even being able to drive, and he also doesn't *need* to drive, because he's always in the Green Car, the first-class seat, and slant rhyming "bling" with "green"
Perhaps there is an ecological image of green in Japan, so that adds to it. There is no way that that R would not use double-meaning.
shin-kansen and bill's colour
Honestly I need more of those videos. The detailed view into those lyrics combined with the enthusiasm of dogen is addictive lol. Boosts my motivation to keep on learning japanese.
Exactly
Follow up coming soon!
Been listening to Creepy Nuts for many years and seen them live multiple times, I wasn't able to comprehend Japanese earlier on so never actively listened to the lyrics, but this analysis definitely gave me some new found respect for their music
Will be hard to listen just to the beeps and boops from now on
Dude Creepy Nuts x Dogen is crazy. I would love to see more. They have so many good songs in their discography.
I’ve long thought that Creepy Nuts was one of the best rappers in any language. The flow is incredible. Seeing someone nerd out about it and analyze it so thoroughly was so cool to see and only made me appreciate their music even more!
3 minutes in and I still can't tell how serious this is 😅
It’s serious!
@@hugsforastarionIdk man....
That's always the problem with Dogen😂
o he's psyched about this song 😀
This one’s a serious one!
As a note, I would watch the 5 hour version. I'd pay for that.
Will do it!
"超flex" and "don't test" also rhyme in a cool way when you say them fast, where the Japanese "超" and the English "don't" rhyme across languages.
I love this video! Don't be afraid to do another one of these, seeing a video of someone explaining lyrics like this is actually something I've been waiting for without realizing it
Part II coming soon!
@@Dogen
i'd do ANYTHING to see him analyze Reol's "No title"
dogen + linguistics + lyric analysis = really great video. it was so cool seeing you talk about voiced sounds and place of articulation etc i was like I KNOW WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT!!!! i'd love to see more of this
Will do it again soon!
This is the Dogen video I didnt know I needed.
I like how... sort of excited/animated he gets when talking about the nerdy details of stuff like the Japanese vs American "D" and "R".
With rap reactors blowing up following the kendrick drake beef, this is genius
In my previous studies and living over there, the "R" sound is beyond difficult for me to say in a Japanese way and not an English way, especially at the beginning of a word, but the "ladder" explanation blew my mind...no one's ever taught me that
Five hours is a lot, but I'd definitely watch a full breakdown. Also, I'm starting school in the fall for linguistics and japanese, so the breakdown of the sounds and how they're created is fascinating to me lol
"ladder", and depending on dialect, twitter, water, sitter, bitter, etc. all have that same sound. When I learned that for the first time it, at least personally, made it SO much easier to make the correct sound
Edit: I originally included "mitten" in my list, but after sounding it out to myself and thinking about it some more, I don't think that word actually counts. I think it has something to do with the "-en"...
I remember my half japanese classmate told me the japanese R is a mix of the english R L D T sounds.
@@siekensou77This sounds like an opportunity to use “TLDR”.
nice, taking a second major in linguistics while learning japanese was one of the best decisions I ever made, good luck!
No one asked for it but all of us needed. That's such a cool video, thank you, Dogen!
NooOoOo!! And here I was ready to sit down for the next 5hrs to hear the breakdown of every line!! Please!! Do regale us with the complete song breakdown! I was so looking forward to a better context/understanding of the lines:
バレットなら満タン 関西訛り生身のコトダマ
音楽 幸運 勝利の女神 今宵も三股 bang, bang
This song has a lot of really cool details you only get in Japanese like the "shedding your skin" part you mentioned, so it's hard to get the complete meaning/picture in a single translation without going into a bit of a language analysis dive. Anyway, great video as always. I hadn't been able to catch the hasamenai-hasamasenai !! But you're right, that IS a very giga chad chou flex thing to do! ^^
It's coming!
As a 'Bling-Bang-Bang-Born' fan, I am very happy you made this video. I could tell it was a masterpiece, but there is only so much of it I could actually understand with my limited Japanese
I'm not sure if it's intentional, but even in translation the 'バグで、まぐれ' is incredible, because aside from the obvious meaning of 'a glitch, a stroke of luck', translating it as 'a bug, a fluke' is also a pun, because a fluke is also a name for a type of parasitic worm that can infect humans. In other words, it's a kind of 'bug' itself
It's been one of my favorite song these last months ! As a japanese student this analysis was amazing ! The 20 minutes passed in an instant, I wish to see the whole song now! I'd love if you did more it's so interesting! I like your intuition about the interpretation. And I also think Creepy Nuts are geniuses. Thanks Dogen !
Will do more!
hearin"voiced bilabial stop" takes me back to my linguistics classes in college. Dogen would make a good linguistics teacher, it seems! Great video. :)
The fact that there are so many similarities between the B and M (as well as the N and D) sounds is the reason why you say “by doze is blocked” when you have a blocked nose and you’re trying to tell someone
Man, this was such a good video. I would love to see more musical breakdowns like this.
Follow up coming!
your English is really good, how did you learn it Dogen-san?
😭 not the 英語上手
This is such an interesting video. Never knew I needed Dogen’s analytical video, but I LOVE it
I need that 5 hours video by far. You're amazing ❤ When on Spotify? 😢
it's so good I'm going to watch this video twice or more
Will do it!
You know what, I'd cheerfully watch that full song breakdown. Thanks for the vid sensei
Thank you Dogen-san I could learn more about this amazing song.
And I hope you'll get more subscribers thanks to this analyse, because you deserve it ! ❤
Well done Dōgen! 👍🏻
That was a very interesting Video.
just discovered your channel by coincidence and I think it's absolutely brilliant. Totally in for the full song analysis
Appreciate it! Will do more!
I never expected to see something like this, I'm learning japanese and still a beginner but I tried to translate this song just out of curiosity, I had a really hard time obviously and gave up, but I was able to catch on some really interesting rhymes haha. Seeing this is just amazing, it gives another perspective to all the effort behind a song, not only the technical effort related to music theory, but also the thinking it had to take to mix two languages and make it make sense while still sounding good. What a banger! Thank you so much.
wow - this breakdown blew me away! I love your attention to detail!
Brilliant video, would love to see more like this!
I’ve enjoyed watching your videos a lot, but your sheer excitement in this one convinced me to finally dive into your phonetics lessons. It’s so hard, but so fun.
Dude this was so interesting! Please make more videos like this!
mMore coming soon!
Nice video! I remember after hearing ゆる言語学ラジオ talking about this, I really started to better appreciate Japanese rap.
This was really interesting, especially the fact that “to shed one’s skin” in English has an incredibly similar meaning of growth and change so you’d think that’d be the phrase chosen in the translation if that was the explicit intention, and not just an underlying feature of this phrase that was left unsaid in both versions.
Loved this video so much! At first I was a little bit confused (like 20 mins from Dogen you must be kiddn me!). But the more I watched the more I dived into that incredible explanation. Keep going!
this is super interesting to see !! i did find the lyrics had lots of interesting bits when I looked closer and I’d love to learn more!
Will do it!
I would love to see the breakdown of the entire song! Especially the "seven lights" that you can see in english covers of this song. It clearly sounds like a metaphor but is used literally in translations. And this metaphor nicely ties in with the protagonist of the anime and how he didn't inherit his powers, he worked for it. Just like the rapper did.
Will do a full breakdown!
@@Dogen I really appreciate it! :)
This reminds me of writing my music literature papers. Very cool to see a different kind of in depth japanese explanations using music!
I love this breakdown and while this isn't what I'm accustomed to when watching your videos Dogen but this was an absolute treat. I would love a full breakdown of Bling-Bang-Bang-Born or other breakdowns of any media.
More coming!
YESSS more linguistics breakdowns, I love this!!
This was amazing, the song sounds so silly but they were so clever with the lyrics, omg. They’re genius and this was very interesting, thanks ❤❤❤
I was just starting the process of memorizing this epic banger, and I also had a feeling this guy was a straight up genius, so this insight is very much appreciated!
This was such an interesting dive! A deeper dive would be cool for sure!
Coming soon!
Congratulations on teaching how cultures have a way of ascribing their own meaning on loan words. It’s a part of linguistics I am fascinated by!
Learning so much. Thanks Dogen.
Loved this! I was kind of expecting a joke at the end, but I'm really glad you just genuinely loved this song
I LOVED this. Obsessed with the detailed breakdown of everything. Thank you so much for this video!! I would absolutely watch more videos like this, along with the funny ones too 😁😁😁
Will make more!
@@Dogen 🤩🥺 omg thank you!!! 🙇
Thank you for this! I loved it and would enjoy even more.
Another video dropping in 5 hours!
I would like the 5 hour video breaking the whole video up yes, please.
Coming soon!
I love watching people nerd out on stuff that they are really knowledgeable about. Very cool video Dogen!
I would love to see a full breakdown video on this song or any others. This focus and style of video are some of my favorite things to watch coming together.
Will do it, thanks!
I like how different this video is. Thank you dogen 😊
I would definitely watch 10 hours of Dogen breaking down awesome songs. I wasn't really sold on this song initially, but I have a mad level of respect for it after you went through it so well.
I really enjoyed listening your thorough explanation and Japanese music, please do more of this by chance 👍🏼
Thank you! Will do!
lyrical breakdowns like this of japanese songs is sum i neeeed. i love this for english songs, but i cant find an equivalent in jp. this is the closest to it ive seen, and of course its from Dogen-sensei 👏🏽
More coming soon!
@@Dogen 😁😁 cannot wait
I have seen lyric breakdowns from music talents especially vocal coaches but this is the first i have seen from a linguist. Brings something different to the table. Japanese rap is very interesting.
The depth of this analysis, along with somehow making it all so clear to understand, is absolute fire. 🔥
Thank you John!
Love this! Would totally watch the five hour version of this!
More coming soon!
I love this video, I like the way you explain things and the extra context you give when you explain words. I would love to see other famous Japanese song analisis maybe even for simpler songs so you can explain some entry level stuff like the use of wo etc.
Thank you! Will make more soon!
Dogen please, I beg you to do more lyric breakdown videos like this. I’m currently studying Japanese to be able to write music so this is so incredibly helpful
Will do it!
@4:37, your point reminds me of a recent realization I had. While my wife was re-watching 'Lost in Translation', I thought about how meanings and feelings can also be "Gained in translation" from one language to another. This seems similar to your "naïve" example. A word might gain new meanings when translated or borrowed that weren't in the original.
Thanks for another cool video, Dogen! (especially one about a rapper I have loved for the last couple years!)
This is so fun! I would watch a whole channel of the grammar and word choices used in Japanese songs! Thanks for making this Dogen!
More coming soon!
Love this breakdown! Some great writing in Japanese music these days to be appreciated🔥
Thank you Matt! Appreciate the kind words-means a lot coming from you!
I am so glad that this lyric breakdown exists, I‘d love to have the whole breakdown of the song!
Sadly I‘m not fluent in japanese, but just understand enough how vivid and different they build japanese song lyrics that sometimes the english translations don’t do them justice.
this is amazing content Dogen! more please
More coming soon!
This is exactly my kind of content, I love seeing brilliantly creative lyrics.
Will make a follow up soon!
Not only was this an interesting analysis for the music but super informative on the different technical terms for how some sounds work (the japanese R being a voiced alveolar tap makes me understand it alot more). Would definitely like more analysis of this song or even more content like this in general!
Will make a follow up!
WoW I feel it has been ages I haven’t watched your videos (I missed the glasses transition !!😮)
Anyway, glad to be here again, quality video as usual ~❤
Loving this video, please make more. I love seeing people overthink their infodumps. Not being sarcastic here.
Perfect video! I'm in the middle of making the lyrics for a Polish cover of this song and this insight is great! There is a lot of nuance that gets lost in translations in English covers, I feel like.
I would definitely love the rest of the song ! In bits is probably more practical but whatever works for you if you do end up continuing this !
Cheers, will do a follow up soon!
I loved it ! (///^///) I also love the usual videos but I loved this one and feel like I learned many things while getting to appreciate the song even more !
This video is amazing. I also thought it was a joke at first but im glad its serious! I learned a lot from this, and it was fun! Looking forward to more song analysis!
More to come!
That was cool! Maybe more music breakdowns from Dogen
I LOVE learning things like this, it’s my favourite way of learning a language. PLEASE do more.
I'm a native Japanese speaker who has been learning English for a several years and I'm just impressed by this video. I neither knew nor realized how grammatically superb the phrase , "バグで まぐれ" is before I watched this.
At first, I wasn't really sure if I wanted to watch the whole video cause I thought the song is just going viral and feels cool only to Anime fans and bandwagoners, but after I watched this, I was like ”Is this video twenty seconds or twenty minutes long?" LOL
Anyway, Dogen's explanation is so spot on, clear, and helps us grab the nuance of the lyrics. Thanks to it, I finally get how the rapper is divinely talented at choosing words to rhyme with delicacy and also loading emotions in his singing and rapping. HUGE THANK YOU TO DOGEN FOR BEING SUCH A GREAT TEACHER!!! So fascinating for even Japanese!!!
FYI, my favorite parts of the song are ”教科書にない 問題集にない 超BADな呪い” and "漫画みたいな輩とまんまで張り合えてしまってる漫画 圧倒的チカラこの頭と口から”. They makes me just crave to sing the song out loud, though I still don't know what exactly the title of the song Bling-Bang-Bang-Born means...
That was so interesting. Please do more. Not just this song but any other song you like as well.
Will do it!
Dogen, I don't know about the World, but I do need to see you do that full breakdown because, I already like that song...You just made me like it for many more reason and if the rest is as full as the first 20 minutes, it will be great !
Thank you for the video !!
It's coming!
I really enjoyed this one!
truly amazing music from creepy nuts! very glad they made yet another great song for yet another great anime!
I learned so much just from you breaking down a J-rap song. It’s a really unique concept for a video and I can’t say I’ve seen anything like it.
The way you explained the song seemed somewhere between talking to someone who knows no Japanese and a beginner-intermediate studier…I think us viewers might even be able to keep up with a faster-paced explanation
Stay jōzu
Thank you! More coming soon!
I already know this is going to be amazing :)
I didn't know I was a pronunciation freak until this very moment. Great video omg XDD so good and so interesting! Why? IDK!
Would you really do a full breakdown? That would be awesome 😊
Will definitely do a follow up!
Yay!!😆🎉🎊
Dude I have been listening to this song so much I am so excited for this analysis lol
