  • Right after riding Shambhala at PortAventura, we flew to Orlando, Florida for a ride on Mako at SeaWorld Orlando! With these two rides constantly referred to as the best B&M hyper coasters, we wanted to see which one delivered the stronger ride experience! And what better way to judge than by riding them back to back?

    Mako was my first coaster after waiting a year and a half from Covid, and that music in the station and on the lift hill does a really good job of building anticipation. I was super hyped to ride Mako for the first time and the music really got my adrenaline pumping.

    I'm edging towards Shambhala overall, I still feel that the drop, ampersand and speed hill are arguably standout moments on it too. Mako is a lot of fun though! Haven't done either at night, which should hopefully change next year 🤞

  • @ZakFarren
    @ZakFarren Před 2 lety +6

    I'd probably agree the first hill on Mako is better than any hill on Shambhala. But for me, Shambhala is just an overall better ride. The drop in the back on Shambhala is insane and the whole turnaround into the speed hill sequence is soooooooo good.

  • @Mig__Official
    @Mig__Official Před 2 lety +13

    Shambala is the golden hyper and is b&m using amazing elements and sequencing and the intensity is incredible, it is a bucket list coaster for people around the world
    mako is the hyper that no one expected to ba as good as it is, its barely 200 feet yet it has airtime that is world class, it also has the airtime hill that is considered to be the best in the world
    both coasters have similarities like having a dud hill after the mid course break, and both are considered the top hypers of the world
    they are also very different too in height, speed, lenght, themeing, station, trains, etc
    we should say thank you b&m for this cause we have 2 incredible coasters and the people in fl (like me) and the people in spain must be very lucky since they have these masterpieces
    for me personally, I pick mako since it feels breathtaking and it was my first hyper and i like the layout a little bit more, i think they added that second half since they wanted to let people breath after the airtime hill after airtime hill, for the presentation of the coaster since it looks cool with the train going around the entrance, and so mako looks more photogenic, but yeah, mako is my top hyper coaster and atm is my # coaster of all time with medusa steel coaster above it

    Ridden both and Mako edges it for me. Just a more enjoyable experience overall, especially the 4-5 second floater hills. First drop on Shambhala is better, but the combined airtime is better on Mako. Both great rides in their own respect and shows how B&M hypers can be so different from one another but still be consistently solid across their range.

    My favourite ride years ago was Space Mountain in DLParis. I rode it ... like 25 times or more.. and during the years I feel one specific point to compare rides, your mood is very important .. I mean, first ride on the morning or the last one at night (when you are more tired) feels so different in the coaster, of course, the weight of the riders affect too a little to the velocity but Im agorafobic and sometimes the ride scares me a little more and feel it faster or maybe Im tired and feel it less intense... well.. I know is confusing, what I try to say is just your attitude and if your are tired or a bit excited, change the feelings of the ride in a 50% maybe.

    So I like the smaller trains on B&M Hypers. Been on all 8 in the US. Mako is the clear #1 for me. Strongest airtime. Great night rides. Candymonium was actually second. Shorter ride but each element was so good. I think Diamondback and Goliath (SFOG) are 3rd and 4th and are pretty close. Both are great rides. Diamondback can have a little bit of a rattle from time to time. Then it drops off a bit. Intimidator and Apollo's Chariot are next. Intimidator is great if the trims don't hit or don't hit hard. Apollo has a great setting, but you have to ride in the back. Nitro is next. I wasn't overly impressed but I rode it in rainy cold conditions. Raging Bull is last. Other than the drop in the back row, the twister layout is my least favorite for a B&M Hyper. My expectation for Shambhala is for it to challenge Mako for the top B&M Hyper. Shambhala has the speed and size. Mako has the shorter trains and very strong air time and a great setting. I don't believe any of the other B&M Hypers would challenge for the best.

  • @starryagent9936
    @starryagent9936 Před 2 lety

    I honestly can’t say which one is better because Mako and Apollo are the only B&M hypers I’ve ridden. And I’ve ridden Mako once versus 50+ laps on Apollo. Mako is objectively the superior ride, but this is one of the few ride models in the world where none of the installations are bad rides. Apollo IMO is criminally underrated: it’s been running great this year. Shambhala looks best overall, but unless I get to Spain, it’s unlikely my rankings will change that much

The only thing that would be against diamondback is location as you just go back into a forest, so theming is meh. You do get the legitimate splash down effect though! Plus I definitely prefer the staggered seating. You get someone in there with broad shoulders and you're uncomfortable the whole ride on the straight across seating.

    Is it just me or does Taylor and Sarah seem to have kinda of a low G tolerance? I don't know how you grey out at 3.8 Gs on Shambhala. Iv experience 4 to 5 on many rides and having gotten close to greying out, might just be me idk.

    • @starryagent9936
      @starryagent9936 Před 2 lety +2

      I rarely grey out on coasters. The only times I remember doing so was on an Alpengeist ride at night in September when it was running blisteringly fast. I’m curious to know what I-305 will do to me, but until then my G-tolerance is high

    • @CoasterStats
      @CoasterStats Před 2 lety +1

      It‘s not just about the g-forces alone, but also about the duration.
      Higher rides tend to hold the g-forces for longer periods of time, so manufacturers have to reduce the peak amounts.
      For example 3 g for 3 to 4 seconds could easily be compared to 1 to 2 seconds of 4.5 g (no exact numbers).
      And physical condition is very important, like fitness, blood pressure, musculature and sleep.

    • @maxhagenauer24
      @maxhagenauer24 Před 2 lety +2

      @@CoasterStats Well obviously yeah and when I experienced even some intense sustained moments, like Batmans helix that is 4 Gs for about 2 to 3 seconds and like on Baclot Stunt Coaster with its long tripe helix or Raptors double helix, I still didn't find them all grey out intense but maybe it was just me or the day I was riding them. They were still fun though.
      Edit: Also your channel is awesome, you got the G Force POVs!

    Goliath at SFOG is the Best B&M hyper, it is Non-Stop airtime & intensity with no stupid mid-course break run to make it crawl to the finish like the overrated Mako.

      Went to SFOG with Mako as my #1 thinking I might have a new #1 after riding my first RMC hybrid. I definitely left that night with a new #1 but it wasn't Twisted Cyclone. I was not prepared for how good Goliath was. The back row night ride I got was the best single ride I had ever had. Of course then I rode Velocicoaster lol.

    Okay, now that I've ridden Shambhala, here's the big question: Shambhala or Superman: The Ride?
    I know most enthusiasts would damn Superman for the restraints--Shambhala's are, indeed, way better, as is its overall presentation. It's a beautiful ride. But Superman, I think, has the better layout. Certainly a stronger ending, with that twister section leading into the powerful bunny hills and that snappy brake run. Generally stronger forces too. (But it doesn't have the ampersand.)
    Anyway, this is the hard one for me.

    I am from Europe and lived a year in Orlando when the run normal they are close but shambala prolly has the edge. When you get the right weather and one train etc on mako so it does not trim and the MCBR is super soft. That's literally not even close and a top 3 coaster for me. It can be absolutely bonkers
