#ExtremeWeather #Flooding #PacificNorthwest
Moved to Bellevue in November 1991. Every morning on my way to work, it was cold, dark, and rainy. On my way home after work, it was cold, dark, and rainy. My mother-in-law called (from Hawai`i) one evening and asked if we wanted anything. I asked her for an outrigger canoe.
Why did you move to such a different place, without having researched the weather?
Blond.
I thought you were going to say you asked for the warm weather
@@philoctetes_wordsworth Work. To be clear, I love Bellevue. Fall and winter were all about adjusting. I have absolutely zero regrets with the decision to move here.
@@toddbrown7702 LOL! Good one!
I live in North Seattle and have been in the Northwest my entire life (Grew up in Portland). It's been steady raining, but this video overdramatizes things. I feel like I see this kind of rain this time of year here at least at least once a year every year. Totally understand some other areas might be getting hit harder, but as normal the news overdramatizes.
Born and raised in Seattle. (1954) Every year is the same story. Yes, it rains in Washington. Yes, the rain makes the rivers dangerous. The interviews with people in the flood basin most likely are new to the state. They build their dream homes right in the path of these torrents. What's a mother to do?
@user-tn8uu2cu8g in The name of Lord Jesus Christ I invite you to worship The God of Israel who created the heaven and the earth...Jesus Christ is King of kings and Lord of lords !!
Didn't they just report record rainfall?
It's been raining in Western WA, yes. But nothing to get all shook up about. Happens every winter. If you don't live next to a river (most people don't) then nothing to get worried over.
Do you know if in Elmer or Chutakawa 'sp' WA. is flooding or not? Have family there can't reach. thanks
I want everyone to remember that this is the kind of rain you can expect in Washington and Oregon. The next time you think you might want to move to the Pacific Northwest, ask yourself how wet you can stand to be.
It doesn't rain all year round and it doesn't rain this hard all the time either. Summers are beautiful and spring is mild.
@@bubbalo3388 Are you aware that it is forbidden for locals to speak well of the Pacific Northwest? Hush your mouth!
It rains 24/7/365, trees fall on everyone all the time, there are rabid beavers, tweekers on every corner, no flush toilets and everyone has halitosis. It's no good, I tell you. Stay far away!
Wish we could keep the Californians out. They’re ruining it up here sadly
No. This is not what you can expect. If it was expected people wouldn't build where they are going to get flooded out. It is unusual.
@@nsbd90now The only thing unusual about this series of storms is the temperature swings. We've already had one rain-on-snow event, and we may get one more. That's unusual. Very heavy rain in the late fall/early winter is not abnormal. Persistent rain from October to June is not abnormal. Annual rainfall amounts in excess of 40 inches is not abnormal for places west of the Cascade Range. Annual rainfall amounts in excess of 100 inches is not abnormal for places west of the Coast Range
The PNW is wet. Very wet. The rainiest places in the lower 48 are in Washington and Oregon. Don't listen to anyone who tells you it isn't wet in the PNW because they're lying to you.
I’ve lived in Oregon almost my whole life. Yes it rains most of the year but it’s more often than not light rain. We’ve had heavy rain & downpours since Saturday.
I also live in Oregon and No It is not a Light Rain. If you live in the Coast Range it just POURS for 8 months of the year. I always get at least 100 inches of rain every year and some areas get a lot more.
@@thelastjohnwayneI visited Oregon for weeks at a time in both summer (bone dry) and winter (perpetual mist). But then I'm from the Midwest and we have drenchers here, so maybe my idea of pouring is different from yours, or I missed something for several years. (Possible)
@@pamelah6431 In the worst of the downpours you can't even drive because your wipers just won't keep the windshield clear. Then there's the two inches of standing water on the road that turns your car into a very nice hydroplane. We usually get half a dozen or so storms like that during the year but this sequence of storms have brought not only rain but intense temperature fluctuations. That means it has rained, then snowed, then rained again, then rained some more. If we get another rain-on-snow event before river levels drop, things will get much worse. The only silver lining is that since the region has a shedload of rivers and creeks, things will drain off fairly quickly once the weather stops. Water flows out pretty fast in the PNW. Really though, it's the landslides to keep an eye out for.
@@thelastjohnwayne I hear the Siuslaw is over the highway in some places (Skunk Hollow).
@@Michael_J_M14😮
EVERY year, there’s river flooding, EVERY year there’s mud slides, EVERY year there’s multiple atmospheric rivers. Don’t believe the hype.
❤ the PNW
sharpie not needed
No canoe needed here in Olympia yet..
Turn around, don't drown. Love that guy 😊
A saying
You can know what season it is in Seattle by temperature of the rain
Be safe, everyone.🫣🫣🫣
Oh my god its raining in western Washington in December 😳
Hahaha
Yeah, but now it's flooding. You obviously don't really know what is happening.
@@ALTDOK667 I've seen 60 straight days of rain over 2" per day on the Olympic Peninsula. Im from Port Townsend. Sorry I hurt your feelings Suzy Snowflake.
Well, I didn't know you lived there. Didn't sound like it. Maybe you should have opened with that. And no hurt feeling, eh? It's just a youtube thread. It's not like what you and I yammer about is going to make a difference, really...@@CANNABISfreedomNOtaxes
I knew you would be here.😔
As someone who has lived there for a while I can assure you we just call this rain. My advice based on what I've seen, never live on or near rivers or loose hills
🌬📢💨 🤔r lakes, rivers & waterfr🙄nt properties.
No one calls such flooding "just rain" except some right-wing dope.
In these parts, we call that drizzle.
Wow
Yeah, we get those flood events this time of year.
Any particular reason you didn't tell us which communities and which rivers?
Welcome to Washington.
Happens almost every year in that area as well as other low lying places.
Note the houses built on high foundations... common place
It is a serious threat but no need to sensationalize it.
Global warming agenda as we go into a cold cycle, 🤣.
Had one of the driest summers, so now we get some much needed precipitation to keep our beautiful forests flourishing, so what else is news?
And it spillls over a little. 😏 Oooh scary😮. Price you pay for beautiful waterfront property in a gorgeous location.
I live in Florida and the beaches erode in bad storms. The houses are built on shifting dunes, but somehow that cost to 'rebuild' falls on everyone.
Then they charge us to park at our beaches to pay for their million dollar houses.
Just a little rant there, sorry. 😏
Been in western WA for 25 years this ain’t nothing I have seen far worse
Well I don't live on the Seattle side of the state I live on the opposite side on the peninsula. And it's been raining everyday last night it rained pretty hard.
And it might rain for a while then stop and then continue the rain and then maybe some light rain and then maybe some heavy rain. But it's the people who live near the rivers that really have a bad time when we get so much rain and it's actually not even winter yet.
However the temps are basically maybe 50 55°. And I hate the snow I don't like to drive in the snow because the people here don't know how to deal with it they think they can drive 80 on black ice so I will take this rain.
Does everyone be careful

You had at least 1 photo of Tillamook Oregon in your report, not just Washington state.
Yeah, they do that all the time. Such BS!
Yikes! Wish we had moisture in central Colorado mountains.
The pacific north west is so beautiful.
Im praying for you all. You are my PNW fam and i hope you all make it trough without anyone getting hurt.
😅😅😅😅
It's clear that they don't know the area. Adding that extra drama to it...
People committing negatively on some flooding in Washington and saying why would anyone move there? Well these extreme rain events only happen once in a while in Washington unlike California which has wild fires, earthquakes and drought. The east coast has hurricanes, freezing winters with snow storms, extreme hot temperatures. The midwest has tornadoes and flooding. And on top of all that, these places generally get hit with these acts of nature pretty much every year with at least one if not all.
The PNW has rain also poor job prospects, depression, no growth. Native of OR I left and never had the desire to move back. While Seattle and Portland get all the press the reality is that outside the metro areas the populace is low income and heavily dependent on transfer payments.
There are so many random youtube commenters nowadays that think they know everything.
9,000,000 people under flood alerts! There are only 7 million people in Washington and only a small portion live in areas that are affected. I’ve only seen a little water over one road and I drove right through it. 9 million people… please!
Ahh HARRP you outdone yourself again. Bravo Bravo! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This hot and cold yo yo is concerning. But it always rains there. The difference it's that more and more buildings with not enough absorption and runnoff areas. Concrete jungle.
I've had two cars flooded on past 8 years.
First one I only had liability on and was old with many miles, so obviously didn't make any claim on that one.
Second was a newer car in a completely different location about 20 miles away.
Neither happened in a "flood zone"
So unless you own a car that's easily replaceable, get full coverage
We're Ducks....We like it !🦆
I was born with webbed feet, makes it easier to walk around barefoot this time of year.
Quack!! Go ducks!!! 🦆
@@MW-on1ftMe too but I'm in Florida. I crave water to jump in.
@user-tn8uu2cu8g Dude there ARE NO MAGIC SPIRITS this is 2023, not the 7th century.
Pineapple Express is a notoriously rainy strain of weather.
Down here in Tillamook, Oregon, we call this "The First Storm of the Season!"
Wow a storm at this time? Life sure is strange
Always expect the Pineapple Express to drop some warm water around this time of year. Quite balmy outside right now.
Yes it Rains in Pacific NW. sometimes it rains really hard. That’s really not news to those of us who have lived here for any length of time.
I don't know why people CONTINUE to drive into deeply flooded roads. SERIOUSLY. SERIOUSLY 😢😢😢
Like people are saying, thus is over dramatized. A few areas are having flooding and landslides but not most of the PNW! Oregonian here.
I now have the song "It Can't Rain All The Time," from the movie The Crow in my head now!😂😂
I'm North of Seattle in Lynnwood. We haven't had a lot of rain lately. I was actually shocked to see this. If I get flooded I'll just eat some nuts and dried fruit and kick back until it's over.
I use to live in Lynnwood back in the early 80’s. Visited Seattle the year before the pandemic and stayed in Lynnwood. Went to the Fred Meyers there and was amazed on how well it got upgraded since then. My girlfriend was so taken in by the place we spent over six hours there just looking at stuff.
We trip balls off rain in Lynnwood. Lynnwood sounds like a Gangster Town.
Well I'm on the other side of the water on the peninsula and we've got quite a bit of rain. And we're more rule than you are living in the big city.
If I die, I'll just drink rain water like Jesus for 40 days.
I'm in gold bar wa this rain just won't let up lots of closed roads and Swift water rescues
Well like they say it is the season❗🙄
@user-tn8uu2cu8g 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Oh no, such a shame. Too bad so sad. Enjoy the free water while it lasts.
@user-tn8uu2cu8g I'm eating pork in the name of Allah. 🖕🐖
I live in the PNW and have not heard of this. The rain is not unusual here, stop the sensationalism.
Flooding one tiny area from a downpour.....🤔
I’m hear at home
Not seattle?
North of Seattle. Snohomish County. Seattle is in King County.
Of coarse Seattle! It rains for 11 mths of the year!
Lots and lots of water.
Funny, local news reports its not that bad, and being here.. its not
Go ahead and make more massive parking lots … build more concrete channels … do everything you possibly can to stop water from being able to soak into the ground … cut back any soil holding and water retaining vegetation (yes. Nice, grassy lawns are almost as bad as asphalt) … then complain when you get some unusually high rainfall.
i just said that!😏
Then read your comment. Exactly! Here in Florida, too. It's horrible.
I think any kind of waterfront property will start going cheap-nobody will be able to afford or get insurance
Florida doesn't seem to be learning. They keep rebuilding and building new crao all along the coast on shifting dunes. DUH. THEN complaining they can't get insured.
What? Hurry up be fearful…. Good grief!!! Washington is a rain climate!!
Rain is better than snow
It’s not too bad ..
I never understood why in the world houses would be built near the water and hills...I guess it takes brilliant engineering
Greedy politicians! They want that property tax revenue stream coming in. I live in western Washington and have seen greenbelt and forests stripped to slam massive housing developments in. When you take away mother earth's sponge, put in pipe and concrete, floods happen.
The view. And river access.
I spent the day siting in my home watching trees float down the river wile drinking coffee 👍
@user-tn8uu2cu8g I don't worship fals gods .I answer to the father, the son, and the Holy Spirit. Go bless and protect the jews they are your chosen people 💪🇺🇸🗽🦅🇮🇱
Feels like a shower when I walk outside
The end of life as we know it is over.
Love that song! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Big deal. People on CZcams always spout bible verses when it floods here in Western Washington. Compared to the flooding two years ago, the flooding now is not that bad. Quit being so dramatic!
Pineapple express. LOL!! 😂😂
"A region on the edge of disaster"?
It's literally normal winter weather.
That's why I like watching the local news here in Western Washington. They don't hype it up as much as these out-of-towners.
Yeah but its the dry heat xD
Normal.
@user-tn8uu2cu8g how about no
They acting like Hurricane Katrina hit the state lol
Ever wonder where all that melted glacier water went to.?
Send some down to California, we always need some.
You wouldn't if they'd give the water back.
This report is a little bit over blown IMO I live very close to the Skyhomish river and it's close to flood stage but I've seen much much worse here.
THERE IS MORE TO WESTERN WASHINGTON THAN SEATTLE!!!! Why don’t you show the little people!!!???
The weather report is as over dramatized as the news anymore 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
That blue house they show has been underwater probably 5 times in the last 30 yrs. They were my neighbors. I left for nevada.
Nye County, please say it isn’t Nye County
Can it be in CA
That was last year. Try to keep up.
@@higgs923 ok mom. Go get laid or something
I used to live in the PNW, moved away because of the rainy dark days, too many in my opinion. Beautiful place though. I dont miss that weather. Summers are nice or should I say were nice, the annual forest fires kind of ruined that.
What click bait. I was hoping for actual news.

Reporting from fall city. That place floods even if it isn't raining for weeks
Water......falling from the sky. Be afraid.😅

Lady run, lady hide
Welp.... we've been crying and moaning for more rain since we apparently didnt get enough last year. we got it now at least XD
Rain? In the Seattle area? Unheard of.
"On the brink of disaster"... Nah. This is nothing. Those being flooded at the moment know they live in a regular flood zone. These flood events happen regularly. The timing of the flooding is causing added inconvenience. That's the price residents pay for their less expensive raised homes.
In the northwest it rains for weeks even months at a time. The whole region has excellent run off. Flooding? WOW
It’s rained non-stop from light to heavy for almost 72 hours. I’ve lived here for about 10 years and I’ve never seen this much rain in this short of a time frame. Usually it’s just a light mist to drizzle. Heavy rain is not common.
@@mylesgray3470heavy rain is common. We just haven't seen so many storms roll in like this. It's the parade of storms that's doing us in.
Atmospheric rivers
@@mylesgray3470 Common in a ten year period? That's not much of a time frame to say it's not common. I'm 63 and born and raised in the PNW. I remember rain events like this were not all that uncommon. Look up the West Coast floods of 1964. This is nothing more than a heavy rain event. If we were to return to a more normal weather pattern, this would happen every couple of years.
NEVER seen it rain for weeks at a time EVER. The whole region doesn't have excellent 'run-off' either. It does absorb the rain water good in many places. Anytime it rains 2" a day or so and it does it for half a day the next day there WILL be flooding starting to happen. Been this way for thousands of years if not millions, basically everywhere on earth.
I heard they had some rain

But we're in a drought
Just because there is some rain and snow melt dosnt mean there isn’t a problem with ongoing droughts, of course there will be moisture in the winter lol then watch this summer as it’s bone dry up here and nothing but forest fires everywhere.

This kind of rain happens every winter, it's not a problem. I don't know why its on the national news.
Because they are trying to sell climate change that’s why they are reporting something that has been happening for decades
Trying to push a narrative.
American media! Spreading fear sells . No other media outlets in the world push this narrative like they do. It’s sickening!

I think this happening because certain alignments in November strongly activate the Earth on November 3, November 11, November 13 and especially November 17-18. Then Mars was directly behind the Sun for 1.5 days. A certain dark energy then activates the Earth, the Sun and Mars.
The sun was already very active after that. Likewise the Earth. On Mars, the delay is a bit longer. I'm also waiting on Mars for the entire Mars Global Dust Storm that will start any day now. Let's follow the situation.
