In the time-poor money rich world in which we find ourselves, the concept of the day-sailer makes sense. Day sailing means you don’t need the vast accommodation and hull of a cruising yacht nor the cast of thousands and complicated gear required to race around the buoys. You just need something simple that’s easy to maintain and that you can sneak in a sail during a spare two hours on a Wednesday afternoon when no one’s looking.

Great looking boat especially with those Ullman sails

Beautiful design but much more lateral resistance ahead of the mast and headsails. You could have improvement in power and rudder control in this old academic keeling design. Stem to stern keel line of sails stem to stern. Stem is between the mast and forestay and is the deepest point or greatest lateral resistance ahead of the mast.

Ballast the middle of the boats and keel the sails. You may have to separate the ballast from the lateral resistance area. For example you don't want to ballast the stem you want lateral resistance from the stem and displacement from the stem.
