You put it in the cage with the cheetahs but that robot looks far too expensive to put in the cage with those lions
hi Paulie yes the robot is about 15,000 usd but the cheetah keepers said 50/ 50% chance that it lives and for our test that was worth the chance it may get eaten- but like the terminator arnold swagnegger - we can rebuild it haaaa
@@roboevents1571 Hehe, glad the cheetahs didn't destroy it. Did the odds drop to 99/1% with the lions.
@@roboevents1571 im dont know about robot like this, can i ask a question?
@@roboevents1571 make it so it doesn't get bitten... Add some repelling smell to it (citrus fruits?). Btw, once their curiosity is satisfied and it's no longer novelty, it won't be effective as a distraction, so use the first contact opportunity well: have it do something meaningful.
Pop a bear spray nozzle on it. The first time it goes in then they'll remember that forever. Then it could be used to protect a keeper
Put this near elephant
Lol ! Elephant lol ...soon Robodog shoot with lasers ' goodbey elephant 🤩
LOL! I actually think that will be great! Hopefully they'd still be able to be peaceful since it's big enough to see. They should paint it in brighter colours though so it's easier to make him out. A lot of those intricate actions are invisible while he's in shadow.
😂👍
LoL
Poor doggy
The lions were super cute
I like the idea of using these as a distraction in the event of an injury in the enclosure. 2 of them could probably interrupt the predator-prey loop long enough for help to arrive.
Yes especially a bigger model
Well, humans dont go in there with Lions in the first place, so...
And even if, once they got a meal pinned, something like this will not distract them for long rather than make them just tear it up because it appears as competition trying to take away whats theirs.
Cheetahs were certainly scared of this bot, when it charged them, because to them it is an animal which has no fear of them or any sign of self preservation instinct (which could probably mean it is either very dangerous and self-cofident, or sinc and crazy, both of which means it's better to stay away from it to not get hurt). Add an electric shock unit, so the robot could emit light, loud, sharp noise, smell of ozone (which is similar to the lightning for animals) and could "bite", and a pair of those could totally scare away the predators from an injured person. Add a tranquilizer dart gun, and you can safely neutralize any potential threats for the person.
Also, they are, probably, made of metal (or hard plasatic), which is somewhat equal to thick bone, so pawing, clawing and biting them would have little to no effect and would totally be not plesant for the teeth, and they don't smell or taste like anything edible or killable, so I assume this which will probably also make the predators think twice before attacking it.
You could fairly easily mount a taser or a cattle prod on one.
Trust me, if you've never been hit with a cattle prod you can't appreciate just how much of a 'distraction' it can be!
@@BeardyBaldyBob I never saw a real "cattle prod" in real life, but I recall it being one of the most powerful melee weapons in one of my favourite games, Fallout 2.

At the wildlife park I worked at we gave the lions bowling balls to play with, they would crack them, this robot would not last 30 seconds, if you want one as an emergency distraction make it A LOT bigger.
how did they go about cracking them? throwing them around?
A bowling ball is not a moving entity; a robot like this so new and unpredictable, in the lion's mind, they do not know for a fact what is the right move.
I like how with the cheetahs they were like “we got this” and the lions was simply “fck that”
Looks more like the other way around. The cheetahs were brave enough until it turned around on them. The lions laser focused on it and never bolted or got nervous. They tried to get to it.
I was a little disappointed it didn't get into the lions cage as well so we get a better comparison
@@thetruetri5106 it has to do with the initial attitude towards the robot. The cheetahs were wary and nervous, the lions were curious and interested. So chances were that the cheetahs were not going to get near it if it confronted them(what happened in the video) while the lions would've likely taken it as a toy
Would it have hurt if it got used as toy? It is still out of metal afterall and cats tend to attack on weakpoints (Neck) instead of brute force
@@thetruetri5106 Biting the neck is the finishing move. If they think it needs to be softened up first, or in this case can't even identify the neck, they're going to use their paws first, and they could really damage the thing.

second one of these I've watched and they're absolutely fascinating. The intensity of the lions as they try and figure out the robot. Had the feeling that if it were popped into the zebra enclosure, they'd kick it into the next century. haha.
I love that they were discussing using the robot as a distraction in a case a human was in the enclosure. It's fascinating to think that one day, a robotic representation of an "animal" could be used to interact with land animals. National Geographic has done something similar with a few very very simple under sea robots I believe.
I think the hyenas would tear that robot up just as much as the lions would. Both are pack animals with little to fear in the wild.
Probably best to add an electrical system to shock the animal as a defense mechanism.
Lol they would know not to mess when them next time they encounter a indigenous wild robotic dog

Lions act just like housecats would when they see an unfamiliar moving object, especially if it's unusual in the way it moves. I've had cats that would leap straight up and back hissing, and I've had cats that would just lay down and maybe even look bored. Those cats would take their cues from the humans in the room. I had a Maine Coon Cat who was Mr Cool. I never saw him get phased about anything, even when my significant other would get in his face and pretend he was going to stomp him. I think the idea of a device to protect a keeper is great. You could use an RC car with an RC pepper sprayer and some fireworks on it to keep the beasts away. It would be a lot cheaper than a robot dog. The lions would have a story to tell their grand-kittens.
Maybe you don't even realize the most important thing you said in your comment. To 'scare away' a potential dangerous animal, you need a real weapon like indeed for example a pepperspray. The robot in the video will never work without a real weapon attached as the animals will get used to it extremely fast and won't be scared away anymore. A good all terrain RC car would do the trick way cheaper exactly like you said :) Even some zoo keepers like gadgets. I can only hope they do not spend their budgets on them.

Electrified elongated antenna could provide a defensive mechanism coupled with a highly domineering cadence, and a sharp clacking sound in time with intense colour shifting eyes. That would scare the bajeezes out of them, and if they got close enough, the attacking animal would get a high voltage jolt. they would soon learn this thing is not to be messed with no matter how aggressive state they were in. With a bit of AI programming, this thing could respond quickly to a person being attacked.
It would have been more interesting to see how the lions would react to the robot in the actual enclosure.
100% destruction, Lions dont fear anything...obviously they might be tentative at first but they will def strike if they want to. As in they might feel its something that is not worth destroying like they might know its for humans and spare it...

If you spend any time around cats or any predator, you'll understand they have an instinct to chase. The best use for a robot dog is to distract (bait).
Use it to catch the attention of the cat, then have it run away. The cat will chase after it, and victim can safely be rescued.
