Steiger Panther III ST 325 First Start and Drive

  • Hello everyone, and welcome to a new video. In todays video we are going to start and move our Steiger Panther III ST 325 from the bushes and move it to a more clear and better spot to work on. It took a few days to start the ST because one day we either forget something or we found that it needed something else. In the end we got it started, running, and driving. The ST was eager to live again after some time sitting in the blackberry bush.
    The ST seems to have an exhaust leak by the turbo which we will fix once we get home. This was a very exiting and stressful experience at the same time but we were able to pull through and get her where she needed to be. This is the pure raw footage that we took. Anyways thanks for watching I hope we see you in the next one!

    So this is Stiger, I apparently live in Doug Stigers old house. I always wondered why people asked me that question. And I randomly decided to look it up and it turns out he made these unique beasts. But he still is able to drive in his late 90’s and he still comes over on occasion to check up on the trees in the yard.

    Good going men , for getting the steiger 325 going , their a great tractor , and those CAT 3406 A model , as all the other comments , those engines pull and lug down , and sound great , and at night time in the cool air i think you get aprox another 50 hp , they come alive , i spent about 8500 hours on these steiger 325 panthers with the CAT 3406 A model . The B model is a great engine also . Good to see the steiger 325 come back to life , love these tractors .

    A little hint on priming crack the filter open just a little, now pump the primer or put air pressure on the fuel tank until fuel starts coming out the top of the filter and tighten it back up. It's primed with no air in the system and it will crank a lot easier.

I remember when I could buy bias ply 18.4 x 34”tractor tires in the eighties for 3-400 a piece and that was mounted with new tubes and fluid in them. I think that old Steiger is going to clean up nicely! Blessings!

    Such great tractors!!!! Brings back the best memories ever, in the mid to late 80's, I spent just about every late afternoon and evening, and every day off from work, helping on my neighbors big farm, in central New Jersey!!! He had a nice used Cougar, in pristine condition, and used it for all major tillage on his roughly 1000 acres, scattered across 20-30 miles or so, in the very diversified central NJ area. I got to spend many hours, early mornings to well after midnight when I had the chance to chisel plow, or pull a disk and roller harrow with that beast. These tractors are so great, so much better in getting in tight small fields, even better than a large two wheel drive tractor could. Nothing looks better than going down a busy two-lane highway than this machine with the fold up disk and roller harrow behind that, going 20 MPH or so. The biggest issue was always you had to watch when you came up to stop sign or traffic light, as these tractors, at least ours, had lousy brakes, so you had to be real careful about planning to stop!!! We always tried to plan the moving of this rig down the main roads, for an early Sunday morning, as most drivers in that area, were very prone to not paying attention to just how much road these beasts with their trailing equipment, ate up the road lanes!!!

    sometimes oil overfilled due to coolant from the jacket leaking through cylinder sleeves or rain into the exhaust manifold ? up the guides or rings in a worst case. just wanted to comment so that ppl don't run something like this too long. it the oil gets all milky after 15 mins ya know it's water or coolant.

    • @TheSteigerChannel
      @TheSteigerChannel  Před 4 měsíci

      Yea, after we ran it the oil was at the normal level. Im thinking that all of the oil just drained and sat at the bottom but now when the engine ran the oil went where it was supposed to go. Either that or the previous owner overfill the tractor on purpose because the front main seal leakes oil. Oil was not milky.

    Pop is RIGHT! A 3406'll hold a low r.p.m. and not heat like the old Macks would. The old Dog 237's operating range was from 12/1300 to 21 with 237 at 12/13 r's and 235 at 2100. The 1st Dog I ever drove has a 6-speed overgear tranny with the lo shift point at 12 to 1300. That was IT! Even splits all the way up and the last one from 35 to 70 m.p.h. No use to try and downshift till 1300. Just had to wait. PULL it! The one in the Pete was a 'B' and it was solid. A C-15 is solid but I'd just as soon have a 'B'. SWEET engine and they can have their Cummins. Not for this old boy. Glad she's going. Waiting on the next!

      I don't think so. The series III where all ST. the 310's where the Cummins 855 and the 325's where the Cat 3406. Their where also the 270's which had the 3306 Cat. You are confusing it with the series IV. The series IV had KM for Cummins, CM for Cat and SM for Komatsu. Swap out the M for an S for power-shift according to tractor data. I have never seen a series III been called anything other than PT, PTA, and ST. Also its not a Cougar its a Panther.

    Cat engines are just torque monsters. Newer diesels are more refined for sure. They don't have the power like older diesels do. They're so choked up with emissions bullshit. Plus, all the new tractors are switching to automatic transmissions. Graduating new drivers only automatic transmission endorsements.
