    Thanks man, awesome tutorial. Straight forward and to the point. Been modelling, rigging and animating for 2 years and never once mirrored special. Sooooooo much time wasted selecting identical + and - space geometry. Thanks a tonne

    Using Topology Symmetry is the way to go in 2016. I've been struggling with this issue for days until figuring out that Topology Symmetry works with all the tools. I want to make sure people watching these older videos know.

      Martin Martinez Jr I know it's been a couple months but I just figured this out because I had the same problem. Select both halves of your object in object mode, go to mesh>combine. Click on the combine settings, make sure merge by name is clicked and hit apply. It worked for me!

      Hi Denis,
      It's really up to you. Some people mirror from start to finish ( when symmetrical ) and others don't do it at all.
      It's really a tool to same time because you don't have to do everuthing twice.
      Mike

      Check how your model is faceing first. If your model is pointing towards X you want to duplicate special in minus X. If in Z then minus Z

      +Dan Ögren If the object turns black instead of grey you need to select the object and reverse the normals

    • @vrynnie
      @vrynnie Před 8 lety

      when i reverse the normals on the selected faces, it will in turn reverse the normals on the correct side? do i finish modelling everything, then combine and separate so that they are not instanced anymore and then reverse the normals? in that case i shouldn't model in viewport 2.0 and use legacy viewport instead right?

  • @Apologisee

    Hey, i tried this but for some reason when i pull the edges away it still doesnt connect the seams, makes a big hole. Also, i noticed that i was able to select and move the duplicated side so it just made another side for me? Help please hahah!

    • @MHTutorials3D
      @MHTutorials3D  Před 9 lety

    • @MHTutorials3D
      @MHTutorials3D  Před 8 lety

      +Nemo Nautilus You need to reverse the normals on the "black one" ( I think it's under Mesh - Reverse )

    • @aps-c1766
      @aps-c1766 Před 8 lety

      when I do the reverse. my true or my modeling side become black too.

      Shev Vin Hi Shev,
      Is the right half of the model that you want to mirror facing to the front ?
      The mirror will duplicate the right half in negative if you input a -1 on scale X
