It's so true that Ellie Goulding owns a very original voice & uses it as an instrument to deliver emotions to the listeners, Lights is a good example of it. Also she is now a more matured vocalist ! At the bridge 03:18 , she beautifully expressed the melancholic emotions of the song with her voice. Even in operatic vocals,she is a maestro (watch her live cover of All I Want) sadly she rarely shows it.
damn I didn't realize how difficult the melody is to sing this with all the peaks and valleys, she nails it. Her voice is much stronger now than when this song first came out.
This was at the ever iconic Kew Botanical Gardens, she is the first & only one to perform there, amazing ambinece ! We have to accept that Ellie Goulding is the Grand Pop Queen of UK for over a decade, she literally ruled the British music as a female artist in the 2010s with hit after hits and bloody great albums like Bright Lights, Halcyon, Brightest Blue and even still making & breaking historic records. At the end, seeing her talking about her son & even about her future grandchildren 😅 makes me so happy to see her grown so much from that little Ellie Goulding of Lights.

I remember hearing this song on radio the first time in the summer of 2010 and it still sound just as good even though her voice change it little bit.
It is a great performance I thought it was all digital editing with the voices throughout this song when hearing it on the radio. It's nice to see the natural voices making these effects and the backup singers.
She's such an intelligent and incredibly self aware performer. The way she's learned and grown as a live performer over the years shows a level of introspection that highlights the amount of high-level thought she puts into her performing. She gives off a passion, a rawness and the perfect amount of vulnerability and she seemingly always knows just when and how much to pull back ever so slightly, to keep the audience wanting more.
The way she navigates through these small but important details is so skillful and smart, all while allowing herself the creative freedom to get lost in the song herself -- and you can't help but get lost with her. Her runs and variations of the melody that I've heard in numerous live performances of this song are always incredible but she brings it to a new level in this performance. People really don't understand how underrated she is an artist. I'd love to actually see one of her shows in person, one day -- and I hope she realizes this song is as special as she is, and keeps performing it.
