Even when plants are not touching each other, if you touch a plant with pests and then another without washing your hands, that's another way you can transfer pests. :)

Very good video! Unfortunately most us have learned about pests the hard way! Something else that can happen is once I bought a beautiful umbrella plant from a popular big box store (it is cheaper than the garden center) and unfortunately unknown to me there were creatures in the soil chomping on the roots! This plant started beautiful and then slowly started dropping leaves and declining! When I decided to repot give it a new start this is when I saw small creatures that looked liked millipedes which were eating the roots! So you can get burned right from the store, there is no way I would have known!
Sometimes I look around my collection and wonder which is going to be the next goner plant...

Thank you for normalizing plant death! It happens to everyone, and it will continue to happen. It is important to remember that we are allowed to still own plants even if some die. And I love the perspective of learning a lesson from each plant that dies. Everything I know about pests, rotting, soil quality, temperature, and watering is often learned from a dead plant!
For me a rule 👍🏼 has been soon as I get new plant I change soil clean plant and it starts a clean start for my home ..but I can say lots of times a plant is already doomed before u bring home and it's not your fault for the downfall..but learning is key to this hobby 😊
