UQ Rural Immersion Program 2023

The University of Queensland’s Rural Clinical School (UQRCS)’s inaugural Immersion Program is inspiring medical students by putting them inside the communities they could one day support.
In 2023, the Mayne Academy of Rural and Remote Medicine at UQ created a four day ‘immersion’ tour for first year medical students to experience the charms and challenges of rural and remote living.
The Immersion Program is part of the new Doctor of Medicine curriculum, which gives 100 Year 1 students an opportunity to learn outside of the classroom and integrate into one of eight rural and remote communities in the Central Queensland, Wide Bay Burnett, Darling Downs and South West regions.
