This Train Stopped & The Crew Jumped Off! Now What's Going On?

- After catching the Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad at H Street in Iron Mountain, MI I came over to the only crossing in town they honk at but the train stopped and the crew jumped off! Now what's going on?

I've seen CSX crews do that downstate here. There's a spot in Highland, MI, that's right next to a 7-11 and they will often stop for a break. The store even created a nice path from the tracks to the store for them.

Here in central ohio, crew used to stop at mcdonalds and block the crossing 1/8Th mile back. Normal thing. Then mcdonalds moved one street over. End of the rr happy meal
“There’s that guy with the camera again. Let’s chase after him!” I guess if they don’t hold up any other rail traffic, they can probably stop for some lunch.
I've seen this happen on Jaw Tooth. Can't stop just anywhere though. Probably doesn't have many options.

What happened was the crew was changing shifts. That is why the train stop. Switching shifts okay
The Crews of NBSR go to either Tim Horton's or Subway.

I think breaks are mandatory. Accidents happen when they work long shifts without breaks .

Jason all that wood pulp makes me think of where it comes from, and are they replanting having cut down all that timber?
A tree is a crop so naturally they plant new ones.
@@crabbymilton390 Good answer Crabby - it's just that over here, it was found that we could grow the right tree for pulp and paper making in an area in Scotland, in, I think, 7 years, so they would cut and replant as they went - probably didn't ask my question correctly.

Looks like ELS railroad is waiting to tag a car then they will increase safety at their RR crossings. Safety seems to be filed in the same garbage can as preventative track maintenance.
Are you sure that crossing isn’t a QZ where the blowing of train horns is banned?

Maybe someday I'll make a vacation drive to the U.P. and US 2 during the summer. Had to go to Iron Mountain a lot when I drove a semi and it always seemed to be in the winter. Hated driving a semi up there, but loved the scenery.

Thanks for the lead video at "H" St has the Melanie's a little coaxing to go get going and also the CN curving track is pretty much the Last Remnant from the iron ore hey days. Since it's been a year since you were at that Crossing where's some rails were removed and dirt piled up has anything happened there since then? Well 11 cars of logs will help keep things moving down the line at Sagola. Was that stop a full-blown lunch hour or just running to get snacks and soda? Back when C&NW .had their Branch down to the Schlitz. Elevator industrial area they always made it a point to stop for an ice cream at the Dairy Queen on Hampton Ave. It was seasonal so the stop was only between early April and the end of October. Make that a double swirl dipped in chocolate

Where I'm from, those 2 guys would be in some serious doodoo for leaving an unsecured train. You need to disable the train (remove the reverser), set a certain number of handbrakes, and lock the cab if both the C and the E are leaving it unattended.
A better plan here would have been for one of them to grab lunch for both, while the other stayed with the train. Now they're on video leaving it unattended. And yes, I know... very little chance that anything was going to happen. But still, what if ?

The CSX R R Florida crew stops and goes over to the Hess gas station across the street for break but they are waiting for a North bound to pass and then they hook up and go,,,long waiting time,,😢

I use to watch them stop at Willamstown Junction. And go to the Junction Liquors store.
