You're right. The addition of a small 5 second scene where RD's friends tried to talk to her and she brushed it off would have made a huge improvement to the episode.
Normally yeah it would definitely have helped - but the moment when she opened the jar and she was asked if she werent milking it a bit to much and she just ignored that, showed me that RD was allready a lost cause to this kind of intervention at this moment - and i think her friends just knew her all too well for that.

I always have to roll my eyes at the obliviousness of the Canterlot ponies. "And who is Rainbow Dash?" Bitch, she's one of the Elements of Harmony. Same with me and the rest of my friends. Saved the world twice? We're in stained glass windows in the Castle? We hang out with Twilight Sparkle, the personal protege of the immortal sun goddess?

Yeah, especially in the case of Twilight. Even before the Elements of Harmony entered the picture. Everypony in Canterlot should know who Twilight Sparkle is. Between being Celestia's protégé and the other things we learn in the S2 finale that I won't mention because spoilers, she is the most connected mare in Equestria BEFORE saving the world twice.
Rainbow Dash literally saved her and the Wonderbolts' lives too like. She can do a Sonic Rainboom!!!
Yeah, it's so funny that Rarity felt the need to lie to make Rainbow Dash seem more impressive, when they've literally saved the country (and possibly even the world) twice!
*Edit (SPOILERS INBOUND):*
After thinking about it, Equestria really seems like a place where news travels _really_ slowly (or even not at all), unless it's relevant to the plot of an episode (like with Gabby Gums, or Twilight's ascension). Like, it takes until Season 3/4 for more than two of them to get any real, lasting notoriety in the public eye (Twilight as a Princess, Rainbow as a Wonderbolts cadet/reservist/life-saver, Rarity with her boutiques and connections to high-ranking ponies, and Spike with the Crystal Empire), and it isn't really until Season 6 that they actually start being collectively recognized by strangers _AS_ the Elements of Harmony (Flim, Flam, and the Wonderbolts don't count because they only recognize them as such in their repeat appearances). And even then, there are still exceptions; like, lots of characters recognize Cadence and Shining Armor, but outside of the main cast and the Princesses, I don't think ANYBODY comments about how Twilight is the sister-in-law of a Princess until _after_ Twilight becomes one herself (and Twilight's position as student of Celestia isn't really recognized by the public until Season 4's "Trade Ya!", when Pinkie specifically draws attention to it).
And with the exception of Rainbow Dash, I'd imagine that they wouldn't be going out of their way to embrace or spread their status as the Elements (I could see some of them feeling like they just sorta stumbled into that position by just doing the right thing at the right time, like Fluttershy or even AJ). Heck, with Rarity, she seems vehement about building up her reputation on her own merits as a dressmaker (even if she _did_ get tempted into lying about RD's position, she still eventually came clean), and that shows even as far back as Season 1, with her getting some important connections like Sapphire Shores and Hoity Toity through her fashion skills alone.
The only real exception to any of this is Rainbow Dash, who, in addition to her saving multiple lives (including the Wonderbolts) and having her own personal fanclub, also gained some fame as a kid from doing the Sonic Rainboom. But even with that, many still thought it was a myth up until Rainbow repeated it (including the bullies, who were THERE to see it originally happen - even if they didn't see _who_ did it, they still saw the boom itself). So it seems like things also easily fall into myth in Equestria (backed up by so many of their "stories" and "old mares' tales" turning out to be true, such as Nightmare Moon, The Crystal Empire, the Pillars of Old Equestria, the Pony of Shadows [who fell so far into legend that it became separated from the Pillars], and Grogar).
In summary: I dunno, man. It's confusing and arbitrary if you think about it for too long.

10:40 i remember years ago i saw a comic where in reality that mare was actually trying to abandon her baby cuz she didnt feel fit to be a mom, she didnt push the baby down the hill tho, that was an accident and after rainbow rescues the baby and she goes offscreen she gets to the ground crying and asking the baby for forgiveness while promising to be the best mother for her

Right, the episode that sparked the psychotic Rarity hate. Something about her leading Spike on to exploit him for favors when she should have let him down gently. Some have even accused Rarity of attempting to groom Spike, but, like you said with Finn and Bubblegum, it was a gesture of gratitude, not romantic or sexual interest. Quite annoying, this discourse.
Right? Like, out of the Mane-6 Rarity isn't my favourite, but I can still easily admit that a kids show wouldn't have a character that maliciously grooms a child. Rarity very obviously has shown interest in stallions her own age time and time again, and her behaviour towards spike is nowhere near the same. She treats him like a child, nothing else.

yeah, I can agree that its a weird way to show gratitude but I can look past it since at that period of time it wasn't seen as that weird
I think it’s mainly a case of 4chan-ers being the main people who over analyze mlp because a lot of them are the type of person to assume that any act of kindness towards the opposite gender is an invitation for romance

Aimsey, can I just say, your videos and community have provided so much comfort for me in the past few weeks and I'm sure for the next while. Growing up and finding myself has been really rough---but its nice to know there are people my age who are just enjoying the things that make y'all happy along with me. I just turned 20 and recently came out as lesbian, and I cannot explain how much these videos make a crappy day better. Everyone here is just so amazing, thank you.

Fancypants is one of the only likeable Canterlot-ponies IMO.
(Sorry in advance. This turned into a bit of a wall-of-text and perhaps reads a bit snarkier than intended. But these are my true thoughts on the matter. Please read if you have time. Any references to later episodes in this post are spoiler-free.)
I agree with some of the people saying Season 2 Episode 11 Hearth's Warming Eve shouldn't be skipped. The lore is super important, so you should at least watch it on your own time. But beyond that, skipping it still irks me, because it's not actually that dark... at all... and it has a happy ending (of course)! It's from a show with a primary target audience of around 8-11 year old kids; it's not Steven King! Skipping it sets a bad precedent for the rest of the show.
(That said, before I continue any further, let me emphasize though it should go without saying, I'm referring specifically to S2E11, NOT the other episode that's been skipped so far: Over a Barrel. Fuck Over a Barrel. OaB is insensitive at best and outright racist at worst. But I don't get that vibe from HWE. Like, to the point I've never heard anyone complain about it. Ever. Even after being in the fandom for 8 years. While by comparison OaB is almost unanimously considered one of the worst episodes in the show.)
It irks me in part because I don't like the precedent skipping it sets. I'm left wondering: what other episodes (potentially fan-favorites, or potentially important to the overall plot/worldbuilding) are next to be skipped without warning?
* Are we skipping the season 2 finale? Without giving spoilers, it has what may well be the fandom's favorite song, but as a whole the scenario is actually very dark when you really think about it!
* How about the season 5 intro? Those two episodes are probably the darkest episodes in the entire show, perhaps by far! Even the song is dark! It's about a serious-enough real-world topic that it's even been referenced in academic papers before!
* The S5 metaphorical episode involving a pet? Dark if you consider the metaphor! Especially if you headcanon it which many do!
* The S5 episode where a former villain is plagued by intense guilt? If you consider the deeper meanings of that episode, it's as dark or darker than HWE!
* S5 finale? This is jam-packed with lore...! ...Dark... lore! As dark as a Y7 show can allow! (various allusions to war, slavery, capitalist-induced environmental destruction, etc.)!
* Maybe it's specifically racism between the types of ponies and/or other creatures that's the issue? If so, will we also be skipping both the S8 intro and finale (the Chancellor Neighsay episodes)?
And those are just a few examples! (Mostly from S5. I've recently rewatched S5. Does it show?)
Every episode I just listed (other than the S8 ones. S8 is mid) are beloved and considered some of the best of the entire show. If we're really gonna be skipping episodes, can we please, if it's not too much to ask, at least get a list far ahead of time so we know not to look forward to those episodes and can explain to you anything about the lore that you might miss out on from not watching those episodes? HWE was one of the S2 episodes I was most looking forward to seeing you react to as it's one of my personal S2 favorites, mostly due to the lore, and now it's just not happening... seemingly spontaneously... for no other reason than one person assured you it has "dark themes". Fair enough, watch or don't watch what you want, but I just personally consider it a very baffling decision, and I don't see pretty much anyone actively questioning it. (At least yet, anyways. I'm already predicting the E12 youtube upload will be obnoxiously spammed with "E11 where???" by users who missed your explanation and who will likely be every bit as baffled).
Bro, you said my thoughts exactly. HWE is a very important lore episode. While OAB is absolutely one of the worst in the series. I've seen a couple of reactors skip that one. Its themes were, in fact, questionable at best and recist at worst.
Meanwhile, HWE gives you interesting backstory to the founding of Equestria and the hardship that pre-Equestrians faced.
If the issue is racism and just the talk of racism then maybe she shouldn't even bother with this show. I would hate to watch her reaction to all these episodes only to have her skip say
* season 2 finale.
* Times they are a changling (one of, if not the best, Spike episode)
* season 8 premier and finale (season 8 is meh, but still)
She can't skip many more of these "dark themed" episodes without a series uproar.
She either needs to warn us or stop skipping.
"The Mysterious Mare Do Well" to this day many people in the fandom, Especially the Brony analysts consider this to be one of the worst RD episodes of the series which on some level it is, Because it's all about taking RD overly inflated ego down a notch. Also fun fact it was this episode that made people in the fandom start thinking that Rainbow Dash is a lesbian because of that scene where she had a pic taken with AJ.
"Sweet And Elite" is another one of my all time favorite season 2 episodes, Just as "Becoming Popular" instantly became of my all time favorite songs in not just season 2 but the entire series!
It was interesting to see Rarity trying to make her mark in high society while associating with Canterlot elites, In fact Fancy Pants and Fleur De Lis instantly became two more fan favorite characters, Though I can't say that I condoned all the lies that Rarity told to both her friends and the Canterlot elites but at least Rarity learned that she can have both a high society status and average friends in the end.
As for "Secret of My Excess" it was an interesting Spike episode, Because who knew that being greedy could cause a young dragon to grow into a greedy monster dragon? But the hijinks that happen in the episode are hilarious especially when Pinkie Pie says "I'm assaulting him with cake" that's one of Pinkie Pie's most memorable quotes! And even I couldn't believe that it took remembering the one act of generosity that Spike did to make him turn back to his normal self.

I am actually sad she is gonna skip episode 11. It's one of my favorite episodes in this season. I'm a sucker for backstory episodes. Plus, IT'S NOT THAT BAD!
Like, it's wrong and stuff, but that's the point. It's not skip worthy. If we ignored everything in human history that is unpleasant, we would re-write history. Oh, wait, we kinda did. The victors write the story after all.

Yeah aimsey, Ive heard this exact complaint From others about mysterious mare do well. You’re far from alone on thinking that what the other did to rainbow was awful because while they talked to each other about it being too much, they never confronted rainbow about that. I definitely believe she wouldn’t have listened, but regardless, they never tried. And they also never expressed remorse about how low they brought rainbow either. Based on how the plot goes, it’s possible they never knew, and would have come clean if they did, but the writers wanted that chase scene.
Basically, I don’t think they ever meant to hurt Rainbow, just show her that there’s a better way to ‘hero’, but not only did they never clearly express that mare do well was more successful *because* she didn’t showboat(in fact, only applejack provides evidence to that claim, since pinkie and twi were only more effective because they had abilities rainbow didn’t), but they also clearly upset Rainbow and then laughed at her for being upset at something -not only extra awful because they were the original cause of her stress, but also something that lesson zero warned them against earlier.
The Mare-do-well episode has been one of the punching bags in the fandom for years, i feel bad for rainbow-dash.
Please watch Episode 11! it's important for the lore of the show

It's extremely important! The backstory of how Equestria was founded! She needs to watch episode 11. "Over a Barrel" is extremely insensitive, but "Hearth's Warming Eve" deals with the subject matter perfectly fine. On top of that, just because one's history is unpleasant, it doesn't mean that we should skip learning about it. That's how you repeat bad historical events/mistakes.
Gotta learn about it to learn how to avoid it. That's why this episode is important for not only the lore but also to give that message. The message that history, however unpleasant, is worth looking back on.

I always loved Rainbow Dash because she's often just really misunderstood. A lot of her confidence and ego comes from a place of insecurity and a need for validation, and at the end of the day she's just incredibly lonely and wants to be liked. She often gets caught up in her emotions that she gets ahead of herself and her better judgement, and has to rein herself in (usually with a nudge from her friends). I don't think she's ever intentionally mean, she's bad with picking up on social cues and says things a little harsher than she means to. She's ABSOLUTELY neurodivergent, (ADHD and/or autism, I personally believe it's both) which is expanded upon in later episodes. Yes, she's kind of a little shit, but she's got a really good heart, which is honestly my favorite kind of character.
I've had many friendship issues where I'd be oblivious that something I was doing or saying was irritating or hurtful to them, but instead of talking to me about it they'd just start resenting me and blow up in my face later... meanwhile I had no idea I was even doing anything wrong, so it was a huge shock and rejection. The Mare-Do-Well episode rubs me the wrong way for this reason... No one tried to talk to Dash about it *at all* and just whispered and conspired behind her back to give her a taste of her own medicine, but it just left her feeling abandoned and confused, and not understanding why suddenly no one liked her anymore-- especially her best friends. In almost every other episode of the show, the other Mane 6 don't hesitate to put Rainbow Dash in her place and remind her to be humbler or gentler, so it's a really odd one-off here.

This was really one of my least favourite episodes. Sure it's important to teach kids to be humble, but I feel this episode pushed that message to far and had Dashie's friends bully her just because she was proud...

The most normal way will be to talk to her, but with some people it doesn't work.

@@Muffin3995 oh yeah true haven't watched MLP in a while and didn't think of that. I still think this episode could've done better had they used a different format to drive the message. It's normal for our brains to push down memories that make us feel hurt, which is how Rainbow felt in the episode, and that'll make it harder to remember the lesson and not repeat the mistake. In general I like the message of the episode but hate the execution

I really hate the mare do well episode because rainbow basically attached any feeling of self worth or validation to her heroic acts, and it becomes the only thing she cares about. Thats not healthy, there were just easier ways of solving that problem regardless of how narcissistic rainbow dash acted

Spike’s love of gems makes me wonder what they taste like. I don’t know if they’re a treat to him because they’re like candy or if it’s because gems are rare/expensive, I don’t think he compares their taste to anything else in the series but correct me if I’m wrong.
Twilight is from canterlot but belongs in ponyvile while Rarity was born in ponyvile but made for canterlot.
I agree that RDs friends should have at least tried talking to her first.
OR, as cool as having a mysterious hero was, I also think it would have been nice to maybe see RD getting in over her head and getting into situations where she can’t help a pony, like when she was struggling to hold back that carriage of tourists ponies, so AJ comes along to rescue them instead (not in disguise). This happens a few times with her other friends too and RD gets increasingly jelous until she snaps at them.
Also I never really payed enough attention to remember how genuinely kind Fancy Pants is🥺

Bro i totally agree with you on episode 8 and what the other ponies did the thing that irritates me the most is that the other ponies are going out of their way to fake a whole thing to get RD to learn something when in reality all it is doing is making her feel like shit rather than helping her improve i think ofc like she is getting something out of it but there are much nicer ways to show this but all it is doing is breaking RDs trust and personally i think would kinda fuck up a friendship cuz like when your a pony whose whole thing is LOYALTY and staying true to your friends and your other friends are not conveying that back and instead litterally making RD feel alone and puts her in a depressive state making her think that she’s fucked up for something she doesn’t know what she did like HELLO??? It took me forever to realize the spike birthday episode was. When he rushed out I realized it. I don't lie that episode but also it's just hard to rewatch some episodes of MLP because I know what happens in some that are really I guess cringe. I don't know another word for it.

I agree with most of the other stuff Aimsey said like they should have talked to Rainbow dash first before the whole plan, but I don't necessarily agree with the whole "She didn't know what she was doing was wrong so she shouldn't have to apologize" that just seems fucking stupid. (Respectfully.) Like, imagine someone speeding through a school zone because they genuinely don't know the limit and risk hitting someone. Should they not have to apologize just because they were unaware of the speed limit? Or, If someone repeatedly hurts a friend's feelings because they claim they didn't know they were being hurtful. By this dumb logic then they shouldn't have to apologize for hurting their friends feelings because they simply "didn't know." Or, If someone makes offensive comments about a particular culture or group because they claim they didn't know it was offensive, it doesn't automatically erase the impact they caused just because they didn't know. Idk, it just seems stupid to say someone shouldn't have to apologize pr face consequences just because they didn't know what they were doing was wrong.

Twi did the exam test to get into the magic kindergarten which could be well before you actually begin. And spike seems to be on a similar mental level to them. Remember that normal ponies probably live for 80-90 years while dragons live for thousands and they seem to continue developing their brain for a while.

I think the rainbow Dash thing is handled much better in the later seasons rather than the older ones. And the later seasons, they do much better at showing that she’s more so full herself and talking to her doesn’t really work as she typically ignores the advice that she’s given most of the time. They tried to convey that in this episode I will say it was a bit rocky so I do agree on that part, yeah having the main six talk to her even just for five seconds would’ve made a big difference. I think more so they were trying to get across the point of don’t do good things just to seek out of validation. Rather do good things simply because they are good. I think what they were trying to get across was that rainbow Dash was the best because she was doing all these good things and she wanted people to tell her that she was the best which is understandable everyone wants validation. But it was getting to the point where she herself was causing problems and issues to seek the same validation. And so it took watching someone else to really learn that lesson. I definitely don’t think it’s a horrible episode but the same time I do think the execution could’ve been a bit better. However, as you will see later on in the series, especially it really takes showing Rainbow Dash rather than telling her for her to actually understand what’s happening. But I’m also speaking to someone who seen the whole show and it’s entirety.
44:24 even if this was a bit of a random jump this is something that was like insanely validating to hear because I also identify as lesbian but not as a women and I went through like a weird phase when I was younger about the same sort of thing and that's part of the reason I enjoy watching Aimsey so much is because I can relate to their experiences alot,with gender and sexuality as well as neurodivergentcy. Where I live I actually still don't have formal citizenship which in turn means I can't really get assesed for any mental disabilities and it's really hard not knowing for me and my mom is working really hard but it's all a complecated and long process and it stresses me out and my mom out,sorry this became me venting about my problems but I just wanted to say thank you Aimsey for being out here and showing off who you are because it makes people who relate to you and and your quirks and things that people might call "weird" feel represented and happy that we're not alone,I don't want to vent to much here but alot of the time because of what I'm like 99% sure is some form of mental thing for me it makes me feel broken and like I don't work right but when I watch your streams and vods it makes me feel so much better when you talk about struggles you have because of your ADHD and I feel less alone and not so broken (fuck I made myself cry) again I'msorry this turned into me ranting but I just needed to say that and I feel alot better after typing it all up :)
