Ohrenje has a great documentary about each member of the band which covers their formation and each lady's story.

As @interstellardave pointed out, Ohrenje has a great series of videos expanding on the BAND-MAID members (and formation). Here's the link to the playlist (hopefully): czcams.com/play/PLVvkhHgIsXRQ5K0KI7k0Hmofhas_f4xv8.html

Don't worry about Band-Maid getting to the UK. They have been there and I'm sure they'll be back when touring in Europe recovers.
You have 100+ more Band-Maid songs to check out and they will only increase your sense of wonder.
The best fan history/biography is the CZcams series by Ohrenje. He produced a 7 part Band-Maid documentary: a segment each on Saike, Kanami, Misa, and Akane, plus 3 segments on Miku. You Will Enjoy!

This was three years ago and Miku was getting pretty good on guitar, love her back and forth with MISA, also like her vocal interplay with Saiki . She is a versatile little pigeon.

This song was originally a instrumental, but Saiki liked it so much she asked Miku to add lyrics, and this fun masterpiece is the result!

Maybe the maids will play Donnington in the UK. That is, if the festival is still happening. I would travel to the UK to see that show.

This was going to be an instrumental but it got changed. The last ringing chord on this performance is the first chord of the live Domination video, as this was the 21st song of their set and DOMINATION was the 22nd and penultimate song.

Play was the first song I had ever heard from ❤BAND-MAID💙. That was 6, or so, years ago and I still get goosebumps ( same time you did ) when I hear them.

I've seen Band Maid shows on all four of their U.S. tours (plus two Meet 'n' Greets). They'll be all that you'll expect them to be: talented, tight and charismatic. (Just don't expect expect the lighting and back screens that they often employ in Japan -- they'll have to get a good bit wealthier to be able to drag all of that around the world with them [of course, if today's Western music fans exhibited the good taste that such people had in the past, Band Maid -- and the other Top Tier Japanese all-female hard rock and metal bands -- would BE that wealthy; instead, we have media reporters assigned to cover the daily utterances and minutia of Taylor Swift and Beyonce -- thank God for Japan!]). I've also seen two Nemophila shows, and one each from Hanabie and Passcode (Lovebites, PLEASE do a legit American tour!) -- go see all of the ladies if you possibly can!

This WAS originally supposed to be an instrumental but Saiki liked it so much she asked Miku to write lyrics for it. I second @intersstellardave's comment about Ohrenje's docu-series about Band-Maid. Do it in this order: Saiki, Kanami, Akane, Misa & then the Miku's 3-parts. Professional quality work.

Picking a favorite Band-Maid song is like picking a favorite Maid. It can't be done, imo. I mean, what's better: Puzzle or Moratorium, Play or Freedom, a Kauai sunrise or a Kauai sunset? My favorite song is the one I'm currently listening to. My favorite Maid is the one I'm currently watching. Even though it's futile, it's fun, I guess, for trying to pick. 😜🤘 Thx, Ross!

I don't know your starting point, but there are a lot of miles between those three cities. Band-Maid fans travel well and buy lots of merchandise when they get there. Something comes over you when it comes to your turn after waiting in line to buy Band-Maid tour merchandise. I wanted to buy one of everything, and nearly did. 🤑
Hopefully they'll be back here for more in 2024.

Funny you thought it was an instrumental because Kanami wrote it as one. But Saiki loved it so much that she asked Miku to write the lyrics.
And also yes, Saiki went to mess with Akane at e drum kit, but if you watch closely, Akane turns the tables, making goofy faces and posing with her stick in the air. Saiki can be heard laughing through her singing.
You’ve liked everything so far, but be prepared. Band Maid has such a wide variety and have no fear of experimenting that, eventually, you may find some that will be outside your tastes. And some that you didn’t like at first, but hit you later on.
Plenty of massive hits to go! Here are my recommendations for you:
“Puzzle,” official live. Big, powerful, heartfelt lyrics.
“Daydreaming,” official music video. If you plan to see them live, you must have this song under your belt. It’s when everyone does the arm waving thing with lighters or phones in the air.
“From Now On,” OMG you will see some heavy metal instrumental magic here. And some of the finest, restrained yet powerful musicianship. Band Maid’s quiet rests even hit you like a truck

When Band Maid tours Europe, their management better not have them play in small clubs like the last time they toured. They deserve much bigger venues and much bigger crowds wherever they play.

It'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the album track. I heard the album version first, then the live version at Shibuya. I love Saiki's voice, so it was a bit jarring to me at first, with her giving up big parts of the chorus to the crowd. But she always wants crowd interaction -- it energizes the band and it makes the live experience way more exciting.

  • @jasonfisher8529

IIRC, Play was the original instrumental, the song designed to give Saiki a break in their insane 2-hour concerts
    But
It was so good that Saiki asked to have a vocal line written in
So then they had to come out with Onset to be the new instrumental break for her
    ROFL

Interesting how you thought it was a instrumental... I believe it was an instrumental originally, but then they came up with lyrics after the fact. In my head canon, they're playing this in the studio, and Saiki and Miku just start singing non-sense lyrics along with it (much of the song is non-sense lyrics), and they decide to keep them. :)

  • @sendarian
    @sendarian Před 10 měsíci +1

Band maid really is there a better live rock band than them? Not to me and they never miss either, always great songs and next level musicians. Play used to be an instrumental they used for the Saiki breaks. But saiki asked Miku to put lyrics to it, that is why has such a long instrumental at the beginning before Saiki sings. They do variations at the beginning with Misa in the live shows over the years.
