Simmons would be an excellent option for a 1 yr deal, he could then mentor Tony Adams & then Adams becomes the full time safety....... it would be the similar situation to Smith & Olu...

Simmons has the ballhawk ability that the JETS have never had.

Last years Simmons tape shows considerable regression. Alot to consider. I wouldn't do more than a 1 year deal and I wouldn't pay alot

I don't understand why they don't sign a veteran safety to solidify the defense. Their run defense worry me some. I think we also need a run stuffer !

If nothing else, if a good safety can be acquired on a flexible deal with no long term money there's a chance they could also possibly be used for trade bait if another team loses a starter. Not necessarily a viable plan or a thing to focus on doing, but it's an insurance policy for the Jets who could possibly be used to gather future assets from another team. I admit it is one of those "Madden" style plans, but inexpensive insurance that could potentially be dealt for other assets seems like a no brainer signing to me.
Also, I'm not up on the Jets current line up as they head into training camp, so there may be better places to spend some cash on young players with potential upside or inexpensive veterans who could provide positional leadership to a position with a lot of youth, acting almost as a player/coach.

I’d give Justin Simmons a 3 years contract

My guess is that JD doesn’t value the safety position and holding on to money for resignings and managing the cap.

Hope he realizes if team does nothing this year he is gone with saleh/ hackett/ rodgers...saving money & draft picks for a future you may not see on this team is insane

We won't sign one because Joe Douglass ALWAYS leaves an OBVIOUS hole in roster. He had done every year. Either WRs, or DL, or QB or Back up QB or OL. He WILL leave an obvious weak position. Worst of all this season there were 10-15 Safeties available and he refused to upgrade. He has one up and coming player who is good but rest are just leftovers. Even in draft, there were still decent prospect available and he traded away the picks for future and didn't draft proper safety. He picked couple of guys at the end and we PRAY they work out.

Well, Jets could get a safety after camp opens and they see what they have. FA safeties should be affordable. Whoever they sign would just be a rotational piece. Jets may not need an additional safety. Jets may have plenty of pressure going on the opposing QB.

Championship teams never say no to adding talent. Look at the eagles/niners. We have a legit shot at a chip and the window is so small. Find a way to make it happen and don’t let the talent go to our competitors. What if we have injuries? Let’s go JD let’s not take the foot off the gas
