I started my SS at 62 1/2, my wife who is 20 months younger than me started at 62. With my pension for working 25+ years we’re doing just fine. That was over 3 years ago & we never looked back. Haven't touched our investments other than to travel. I had two brothers die of cancer 3 years apart. One died at 62 & never drew a dime of his SS. The other died at at 65 & drew 10 months. Let's be honest here, the reason the Government is offering you a bigger payday at 70 is because they're banking on you not making it!

It sounds like you've made some wise decisions regarding your Social Security and pension, but I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your brothers. Planning for retirement is crucial, especially with uncertainties like health issues. Before it's too late, it might be a good idea to seek the guidance of a financial advisor who can help you make the most of your investments and ensure a comfortable retirement. They can help tailor a plan that suits your needs and goals, giving you peace of mind for the future. It's never too late to start planning for a secure financial future.

Absolutely, I totally agree. It's crucial to consult a mentor in finances as soon as possible. I've personally witnessed the impact it can have. I was able to increase my investments by $700k with the assistance of my mentor, which has greatly increased my sense of security for the future. Take your time, then, and pick someone you can trust. In the long term, it's worthwhile.

I'm actually in a similar situation-I've accumulated $500k and I'm ready to put it to work, but I'm eager to find someone I can rely on to help me make smart decisions. Would you mind sharing the name of your mentor? I'd love to explore the possibility of learning from them too.

Very interesting video. I remember my work supplied pension talks and the “funds” their advisor recommended I put my money into. The broad categories that had vague descriptors that didn’t really explain anything. The combination of, you’ve got 5 minutes to select between these funds, which will potentially impact the rest of your life. Ah the fun of it all. As someone who, all things going well, should be mortgage free by the summer, I can’t wait for that part of my life to be over. While I stopped working in 2019 (and hopefully will never have to start again), I kept the mortgage as it was a really great rate. It comes due and great rates no longer exist, so it’s time for it to go. Financial literacy is something that we definitely should have been taught at school, because I can remember all sorts of financial decisions I made in my early twenties, which, looking back on now, were often really terrible ones and cost me a lot over the years. Loan decisions especially! Keep up the good work!!

But more to the point - we hired a financial advisor after we came into a sum of money. I was 45 , husband 36 . We told FA that our aim was to retire at 55. He basically said no chance and no more conversations were had. No advice given about how to do this , no different projections idea strategies etc. Needless to say we parted ways after a few years and we re now very nearly on track to retire with our happy median - me 58ish, husband 52ish. TBF this is only possible because of all my husband's research and hours learning about all things around finances , retirement and investing. Ps thanks for all your videos on all sides of retirement . I'm obsessed with the travel plans too.
