All the buttons on the sound board are divided into "channel strips" and each strip/channel is for a single track. A track can be anything (kick drum, snare, vocal, guitar, a pinecone, etc.) All the buttons are just to modify that channel as it's being recorded.
Btw Dontai most studios nowadays even have "Laptop Stands" because most people (like me), make their music on a Digital Audio Workstation which is basically a whole entire studio in the software. The buttons and all that are just their to set the vibe.
