It always seems like 261 is 2 or 3 cars short of having a matching consist. I'm guessing it's because those cars are privatley owned and can't be re-painted?
There have been times in the past where its had a set of all Milwaukee Road painted cars. However, like you mentioned, a lot of these are privately owned, thus the other paint schemes. Thanks for the comment!
Oh no, no no. No one is re-painting the Silver Palace. That car is a fine example of Zephyr style. Otherwise, yes. The mis-matched cars are privately owned and not going to be re-painted.
At 6:17, I can see my own back in the shot of the photo run by in the light grey shirt, dark grey pants and tan hat closest to the tracks of the larger grouping of people. Even uploaded a video of the run by from my perspective on my channel.
Thanks for the comment! WAY back in Amtrak's early days they used passenger equipment like this, but the Amfleet was needed to replace and upgrade the aging cars.
101 is in a weird position of having both the cab roof E-bell and the classic underframe bell bell. No one likes the electronic and I'm told she only used her actual classic bell.
That’s because it did only use the brass bell and it didn’t have an E-bell because I’ve been on the roof. Or is it that megaphone like thing on the roof?
Is that car Montana in the consist? I knew the previous owners in L.A. They were forced to sell it because of Richard Anderson, ATK ceo's, no private cars on the surf line policy.
Thanks for the comment! That I don't know for sure, but it looks like it could be. It amazes me how many times private cars can change hands over the years.
Hi, I play in a rockabilly group called Altar Billies and we write a lot of train songs and put together youtube videos honoring many railroads. We would like to ask permission to use a few short cuts of this footage in a new youtube video we are putting together called "Locomotive don't pass me by" - honoring vintage steam. I tried to look for another way to contact you, this is the best i could find. Quite a beautiful video. The big beauty is a wonderful train.
Excellent!!
Thank you! I'm glad that you enjoyed the video.
You can hear that it's alive as it goes past the camera it's awesome to see it and hear it scream . That sounds So cool
I'm glad you enjoyed the sights and sounds of the 261! Its always neat, and a treat, to see this locomotive in action. Thanks for the comment.
Great video! 261's whistle is sounding better than ever!
Thanks for the comment! It has a very classic, distinct, and nice sound to it.
Glad to see 261's still out and about
Thanks for the comment! Sure is, and is a coal burner too.
The Twin Cities & Western Railroad.
Thanks for the comment; that is correct, the 261 was running on the TCWR.
Anytime.
I bet the people in the observation car didn't appreciate the diesel stuck on the end of the train.
Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I'm right there with you on that as well.
That thing is a beast.
Great video and awesome locations SD457500, greetings from New Jersey

Such a wondeful looking northern-I can't wait until the 576 is done here in Tennessee.
Thanks for the comment! The 261 is really neat, and classy all in one. How is the 576 progressing so far?
TOOT TOOT *MMMMMMBOIS*
Thanks for the comment! I do enjoy the 261's whistle a great amount.
Sweet video
Thanks for the comment, I'm glad that you liked watching it!
That Kinda Looks Like 844
Thanks for the comment! I can sorta see that; I bet *if* it had the smoke shields, it would look even more like that.
SD457500 yeah
Thanks Doug.
Thanks for the comment, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Nice Video!
Thanks for the comment! I'm glad that you enjoyed it!
I was on my feet in happyness 4 run of 261
Glad you enjoyed it! Were you out there shooting it too?
I was in Hopkins that day for both trips, but only got the return trip because my old phone’s storage capacity was abysmal
What time does it come through Hopkins I seen it in Hopkins today at 5:00 wondering about tomorrow if anyone knows.

I’m going to be mending 101’s M3 tomorrow. I was given permission by Steve himself. Also I apologize for the holdup around Green Isle on the way down.
Thanks for the comment, and good to know! No worries whatsoever, things happen on the RR.
Looks like the TC & W has some Ribbon Rail for Hopkins!
Thanks for the comment! Lots of new welded rail is going in, and the line is getting a lot of TLC too.
@@SD457500 Rail is for the SWLR project.
The twin cities a western could run alot faster with welded rail though.
@@douglasskaalrud6865 - You are saying that rail is for the new Light Rail line & not for upgrading the Twin Cities & Western's line?

@@SD457500 that it was. It was the first time I had ridden behind 261 since 2002.

I really hate that crappy Ebell on that E Unit I'm glad the friends of 261 installed a mechanical Bell on it it looks and sounds great
TexasRailfan21 I don’t think they use it, at least when I chased it the day before they didn’t.
LOL IT’S NOT AN E-BELL. It’s a full blown brass bell.
Thanks for the comments guys! I was going to say, I think its a normal bell on the E unit.

Is that the whistle from the early 90s?
Thanks for the comment! That I don't know, but I truly enjoy the whistle the 261 has on it.
That whistle is from the late 1990s to present day. Its a ATSF 6 chime off of extinct engine #2905
Wonderful whistle. What type?
Thanks for the comment. That I cannot answer for you, I really don't know when it comes to steam engine whistles.
It has 2 whistles. A Santa Fe 6 Chime and the original Milwaukee Road ‘Steptop’ 3 Chime.
@@alexpaumen3937 Yes. And the 6 chime is off extinct ATSF engine #2905
This is looking great! Might I ask what camera you use?
Thanks for the comment! I currently use a Canon HV40, however I'm looking to upgrade that sometime soon.
I'm sure the diesel on the back is EMD F-units, but.... Is it EMD F7???
Thanks for the comment! That is actually an E9, E units have six axles, and F units had four axles.
@@SD457500 Oh no, I'm wrong again...😂😂😂😂
Its all good! There are many different types of locomotive models out there.
@@SD457500 So, are there many differences within the locomotives, although....they are on the same carbody???
Sorta, but they are all different. E units and F units, while looking similar, all had different distinctive features.
