Officers must be mentally ready, physically fit and emotionally strong but don't forget about the human factor and remind them to be professional, ethical, respectful, compassionate, and courteous. Thank you for serving👍🙏

Glorious! Love and Prayers for our top-notch Austin PD! Hello TEAM (A note from the Chaplain's Corner:)
'I sincerely felt encouraged and motivated by this stellar presentation!
The Austin Police Department's introductory video offers a compelling narrative that effectively communicates the multifaceted nature of police work, the rigorous training involved, and the department's core values. Through a strategic blend of ethos, pathos, and logos, the video successfully conveys the department's commitment to excellence, professionalism, and community service, while also appealing to potential recruits' sense of purpose and dedication.
Ethos: Establishing Credibility and Inspiring Heroism
The video commences by showcasing the diverse units within the Austin PD, including air support, motorcycle patrol, special operations, and community policing. This comprehensive overview establishes the department's credibility and showcases its commitment to maintaining public safety through a variety of specialized roles. By highlighting the breadth of opportunities within the department, the video appeals to potential recruits with diverse interests and skillsets.
Furthermore, the video emphasizes the demanding nature of the eight-month training program, characterizing it as a "baptism by fire." This phraseology not only underscores the intensity and rigor of the training but also evokes a sense of heroism and sacrifice. By framing the training as a transformative experience, the video appeals to individuals seeking a challenging and rewarding career path.
Pathos: Evoking Emotion and Personal Connection
The video's central focus on the personal narratives of recruits and officers injects a strong emotional appeal into the narrative. The emphasis on family, courage, prior experience, humor, and dedication to civil service creates a sense of relatable humanity within the profession. These personal anecdotes and reflections resonate with viewers on a deeper level, fostering a connection with the individuals behind the badge.
By showcasing the sacrifices made by officers and their families, the video appeals to viewers' sense of empathy and admiration. The inclusion of humorous moments humanizes the officers and counters the stereotype of law enforcement as overly serious or impersonal. The overall effect is a balanced portrayal that acknowledges the challenges of the profession while celebrating the camaraderie and resilience of those who serve.
    Logos: Emphasizing Logic and Practicality
The video's conclusion shifts towards a more logical and pragmatic approach by highlighting the importance of survival, knowledge of policies and laws, and overall mental, physical, and emotional well-being. This focus on the practical skills and knowledge required for effective policing appeals to individuals who value reason and preparation.
The video's closing call for employment opportunities reinforces the department's commitment to attracting qualified candidates who possess the necessary attributes for success. By ending on a note of invitation, the video leaves viewers with a sense of possibility and encourages them to consider a career in law enforcement.
In conclusion, the Austin Police Department's introductory video effectively communicates the department's values, training rigor, and commitment to community service. By employing a balanced approach that incorporates ethos, pathos, and logos, the video appeals to potential recruits on both an emotional and intellectual level. The result is a compelling narrative that not only informs but also inspires, ultimately attracting individuals who are driven by a sense of purpose, dedication, and a desire to make a positive impact on society.
Wishing them, us, and all LEO's the very best. Our prayers for stregth, wisdom, and health!
    Respectfully,
    Leo'

Dear Class, this video is great..it's good to see the peoples of the Military in action, it's inspirational.
One thing I would like to say regarding Police training is that when I was in the Austin, Texas area I was lucky enough to see some real Police in action during a bar fight. And the technique that I saw the Austin Police Department employing was extremely effective, where the Officers teamed up 2 Officers to 1 suspect on either side of the suspect, locking them up quick with both arms restrained and forcing them up against the wall. It was like clockwork and it went so good I was impressed. They acted as a team with the same primary goal in mind man.
So I'm just mentioning it because I think it's a great technique, using an overwhelming force and logic and intelligence to apprehend your opponent (the suspect) without using excessive force. These Officers had the bad guys locked up and safed up and restrained peacefully in seconds.
I had quite an adventure down there while Courting Sandra B., from a safe distance, including an encounter with a guy carrying 6 knives on him at 6th & San Jacinto. This man was a local street musician that tried to interfere with me while I was defending a young lady whom was in a fight with her boyfriend at a bar. He refused to get out of her vehicle when she asked him to and so I had asked her if everything was alright. The guy with the knives named Hurst if I recall was his last name, was possibly a couple of things...1)retaliating because I had been in the area playing my guitar as a street musician to earn money too and he was territorial about it and 2) he may have had as we call in the Police business, an "Anti-Cop Complex" lol. The young lady got home safely and her boyfriend left her alone and Mr. Hurst got searched and was picked up later for disorderly conduct, he had been drinking. And of course, the Police found his other 5 knives.
Whew...another edition of "the crazy life of God" lol. Good technique Officers!😇✌🎇🌈✊✌👮

I remember one summer APD pulled me over on Burnet for a SUPER expired registration on a Oldsmobile Eighty Eight That I had just bought. He sat there and chopped it up with me for about 15 minutes or so and ended with "well your license is good, you have insurance just had to check to see what was going on. It was great talking to you though I don't ever have traffic stops this pleasant or enlightening."
I looked at him for a second and I was like...
"I forgot you even pulled me over, felt like I was just talking to an old friend in the parking lot."
We both laughed he said his name was Steve I can't remember his last name but I'll never forget that day.
It was hilarious. We talked about sports, current news that had been going on lately, then we talked about cars and his favorite car his ever had, I think we talked about traveling he told me Las Vegas was cool but not what he had hoped it would have been. In hindsight the whole thing was hilarious.

I love the way the police officer explained it when the verbal insults are flying left right and centre at you. He said it’s not me personally that they are attacking. That’s so true, if you have that mentality set you are equipped to keep your composure. I look at it another way as well, ok these people have stuffed up in life and broken the law, they are still human beings and they have a chance to turn it around. Also when you are dealing with lawbreakers they have the tendency to behave like a wild animal that’s just been caught. Drunks are the worse and the language and name calling can be totally over the top. But sometimes humans want to behave like out of control feral animals. If that’s their choice well fair enough. I just let them rant, they soon run out of steam.

Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor. Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

Not gonna lie, this seems kinda easy... These training officers look soft AF. It seems like police are really trying to emulate the US military but they're like a dollar store version. Compare this to Army or Marine corps Basic/AIT/OSUT. Your standard private from either branch could out PT everyone in this video.

  • @Stargazer69
    @Stargazer69 Před 2 lety

Training is different than educating. Generally, training means teaching police officers to react to a given situation in the field. Education involves developing the mental and moral tools police officers should possess to build strong relationships with the community. It will teach police officers to think about their response to various problems based on vast amounts of knowledge and then take thoughtful action to resolve a problem.
What they need is educating them on our Constitutional rights. Police officers enter their profession by taking an oath to the U.S. Constitution. So why is there no concerted effort to make police constitutionally literate? Just think about how much better the police-community relations would be if police were constitutionally literate.
Constitutional literacy entails knowing the Constitution sufficiently well enough to invoke it properly. Those who take an oath to the Constitution have the responsibility to know its contents and interpretations of it, such as court decisions that are professionally relevant. There's a lot of men and women that have a career in policing without ever even reading the Constitution. So how sincere is one's oath to the Constitution if one hasn't read it or doesn't understand it?
First of all, police academies should replace the standard five to six months of training with a two-year curriculum. In addition to the necessary physical, firearms, and tactics training, recruits should take classes that you might typically find in an undergraduate program - from criminal and constitutional law to sociology, psychology, and conflict resolution. A clear understanding of the nature of the society they will serve, and all its complexities are fundamental to any member of a service profession.
By doing a simple search on CZcams and watching a few videos of "First Amendment Audits" you can plainly see how ignorant most police officers are when it comes to our rights. So more education is needed, not just training. www.policechiefmagazine.org/education-offers-best-solution-for-police-misconduct/

They're doing it to mimic how people are bound to talk to them in society. Technically it does make them better police because many people demean and say offensive things to officers and officers are supposed to maintain their professionalism at all times regardless of what is said to them and only act in regardes to the law.

Idk who u think you are but don’t comment on this video if you don’t have something kind to say. Yes some do have ptsd but u cannot judge a person based on just a video. And NEVER disrespect someone in or was in the military. Until you meet him, YOU have no right to judge or say a word.
