Backing tracks are the new back up singers. No one scoffs at live shows with 3 vocalists stuffed in the back of the stage doing harmony to elevate the show. it’s 2024 they’re using technology instead..get over it. Not to mention Tom is taking time off from aliens to do this.. be grateful ya brats!
Not that it really matters, bc I agree with you but Tom just turned 48 in December. I always say decades of smoking cigs & weed changes your voice some but, they still sound amazing!
I think a lot of it is a vocal effect pedal or something similar. There is definitely a backing track and that is something a lot of these huge bands do and have been doing. Like a lot. But here besides the times he clearly isn't singing when there are vocals playing it sounds more like a pedal that can double and harmonize and pitch correct your voice. I have one that does that as a shitty singer who has to do backing vocals in a shitty cover band in a shitty town. But Tom probably has a top of the line rack mounted vocal effects processor.
They shit the bed so hard that the overall backing track sounded embarrassing. I wish they’d just go back to keeping it pure and real. If you look at ~2004 and prior vs now it’s such a noisy and less visceral live sound. Im sure they used backing tracks longer than we realize but now they’re doing so much more shit to try and make it sound like the album that it doesn’t even sound exciting and live anymore. They’re so bad live they sounded better without all the pizazz. I still love them, but I loved them more when they didn’t try so hard. That’s modern Tom for ya, reaching higher than he’s qualified for.
Doesn’t need it, the technology has come so far now that you don’t HAVE to use a real amp and for touring it saves room and you don’t have to drag it out everywhere
Bullshit, amp sims are at the point now where they’re a better option then having to lug around a heavy amp. It’s not like they used to be, the quality has become better And nothing wrong with backing tracks, they always have any additional harmonies or guitar riffs as backing tracks in some songs. For this song there’s a lot of different layers so the tracks are essential, the chorus wouldn’t sound as big without the additional harmonies
