Today I drove down to San Diego California to visit the uss Midway aircraft carrier museum.I am riding my bike along the coast and seen pirate ships sail boats and aircraft carriers as well as submarinesI had a great day in San Diego - Zábava
Ahhh, my old helicopter. The tandem rotor helicopter 46 was the last of 2 helicopters I worked on in HC-11. We came back from our cruise and stripped the helicopter down to send to the USS Midway. The other is on static display on Coronado Island Naval base. I love going into the helicopter when I visit the Midway. All those memories flood back to me.
Thank you for your service, kind sir!♥️🙏🇺🇸
Why didn't they just take off in the Helicopters and let the plane land then come back? 🤷♂️
@@dickiedocker that is a really good question LOL somebody must have taken some heat for that one
Hello German the happy man. How do you always be so happy? That little movie clip is the movie when they were evacuating Vietnam the last day. They took a lot of Japanese also with them. That whole movie I have seen it it was in the Vietnam movie on PBS. It is an extremely long documentary by Ken Burns.
I never knew that story, it’s really awesome to see the people care more about human life than 10 million worth of helicopters!
They were going to throw them into the ocean later on anyways. The war was over and all those helicopters were worthless
I want to thank you for getting out and taking us alone, especially in now times of days. I would like thank all who served for us.🇺🇸
It's a fun ride with Mike seeing things I've never seen before and learning a thing or two.
A friend of mine’s dad was a tour guide on the Midway. He said many former crew members come out to tour her. One brought a backpack and asked to show his family his old rack. When they got to his bunk, the guy pulled out a pillow and blanket and hopped up on his old rack for a nap. My friends dad finished the rest of the families tour, 2 hours later he went down and woke the former crew member up.
Cool
Thanks for the tour.
As an ex-Navy guy I always enjoy anything to do with the subject.
Tom's jet was the F14 Tomcat.
Thanks
In the sequel they use an F18, but the Navy wouldn't allow Tom Cruise to fly it himself
@@germaninvenice for lack of a better word, we all want to know how the "diet" is going? You don't need to tell us how much weight you've lost. Just tell us what you are eating and show us some more exercise. I enjoyed that video where you were doing exercise going up the hill. *That's right we haven't forgotten! 🤦🏼♂️🍔🍔🍔🍕🍕🍕🍟🍟🌭🌭🌭🌭🥞🥞🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮
Two hours from Los Angeles on a good day with no traffic.
my husband was a helicopter door gunner. i'll spare you the gruesome things he told me. he was too young for that position and that kind of killing. he came home messed up. really bad. we, the kids all suffered, in and out of treatment and hospitals and eventually he killed himself. war is hell. i don't like how easily these politicians can send our men and women into combat especially when they never served nor any of their children. my father was a WWII vet sent in to 'rescue' those in one of the concentration camps. death and devastation. thank you for this video. i'll never get there: too old and disabled now. to see that helicopter gatling gun. broke my heart. again, this video was so meaningful. thank you german in venice. danke.
YES GOD BLESS ALL OUR MILITARY PEOPLE MEN AN WOMEN THOSE WHO ARE STILL WITH US AN THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIFE FOR OUR PROTECTION..THANK YOU ALL
GOD BLESS AMERICA

It’s so annoying when people type in all caps.

This is a misconception. The US army never fought in wars where it defended the US as a country or its people, because the US was never offended, except for Pearl Harbor. But this is a separate story. The US army always involved in wars they were either asked just to help while in most cases they weren‘t asked and simply did.
As an old Gunners mate from 1984, I appreciate this. Brings back memories from my old ship U.S.S. Spiegel Grove LSD 32. Well Done!
Thank you for thanking & thinking of our service men and women.👍⚓🇺🇸🤗💖💞
Hello Mike and all the fans of German in Venice! My father, Captain Leonard Higginbotham, USN, (Ret.) (Dec.), was the Operations Officer and Executive Officer on the USS Midway from July 1969 until December of 1970. THANK YOU for taking me (and others) on a fantastic tour of where my father formerly tread. He successfully completed 42 combat missions over North Vietnam while serving as the Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of the Reconnaissance Attack Squadron 13, previously, from July 1966 until June 1968 between the USS Kitty Hawk and the USS America. He taught Jet Fighter Tactics to The Blue Angels in Kingsville, Texas from 1954 until 1956, and often joked he taught Tom Cruise the "Inverted" trick. I'll never forget his face the first time we watched Top Gun. Thank you for remembering our Warrior Patriots. We miss them all.
Love ALL of your videos, always looking forward to the next one!
I served on the Midway during 1973-74 and was stationed in Yokosuka Japan. When I first saw this Aircraft Carrier, I was blown away, and I got lost inside!!! The Flight Deck was one of the widest at that time. I still have photos of it with me on board. AWESONE CARRIER! Thanks for posting.
Wow cool
THAT WAS AWESOME GERMAN IN VENICE. YOU ARE APRECIATED. THANKS TO ALL THE MANY VETERANS.
San Diego actually a very good city pass where, for a fixed price, you can visit nearly all of their popular destinations and save a good deal of money. It's best if you're doing a multi-day trip because the zoo will take a full day.
The battle of Midway was a major turning point in the pacific theater during WW2. Thanks for sharing.

My uncle served on the Midway during VietNam, nd then, some years after he left the Navy, he was a tour guide. God Bless our military!
Wow! I’d never heard that story about the guy and his family landing on the carrier. My first husband was in the Navy on subs. Thanks for sharing this with us Mike. 💜
My home town. Its as nice as it looks, but nicer. Danke schon!
THANK YOU FOR GIVING US A TOUR OF THE MIDWAY .!! And as a navy mom I Thank u .
Welcome to San Diego. Now you can see what a safe and normal city is like.
San Diego has a shit ton of homeless to tf 😂😂😂
Fck no city is filled with homeless as well.

Thanks again German in Venice Beach ⛱️🏖️⛱️ California USA. Beach Boys are playing in Petco Park soon. METALLICA was here in 2017‼️ Beautiful Stadium 🏟️‼️Thank you for all of your hard work German in Venice. Bought some Cinnamon Swirl Bread for toaster at Aldi a few days ago. They do sell German cookies and wines, but cashier told me not a lot of German products. Thanks again for your hard work. It is loved and appreciated by thousands‼️⛱️🏖️🌊😀🗽👍👍🇺🇸🇩🇪🇺🇸
My relatives were in the war my great grandfather and my grandfather my father and my friends so god bless us all
San Diego is the best 😁 I love to sit on the midway and watch the planes ✈️
Hi German in Venus. This is one of the best Museums in the World; thanks for showing everyone else this national treasure!!🇺🇸
Thank you for not forgetting about us. I served on the USS Belknap DLG-26, USS Seattle AOE-3 and USS Plymouth Rock LSD-26. Shout out to all my shipmates!
GIV, You make me smile at the end of the video, when your face shows happiness while smiling when you say tschüssing.
And boom mike hits another home run video. You sir are excellent at teaching us about america and as a fellow german you know like I do we kick ass brother 🤘🤓🤘 very nice of you to give a shout out to the navy and other servicemen and woman of the usa and remind us all that without them we could not sleep freely or life freely 🤘🤓🤘 god speed mike
About 30 feet from that statue behind the shrubs is a tribute to Bob Hope. It is a full size diorama of Bob Hope entertaining troops. The interesting thing is that not only do the figures represent all the services but the uniforms worn depict the type of uniforms at the time of the war that Bob Hope entertained in. The details of the sculptures is fantastic.
Thanks German, we visited that ship along time ago. This brought back Great memories!!!! Thank you to all U.S. MILITARY WE LOVE YOU!!!
What a great video of an aircraft carrier that was part of the largest helicopter evacuation in history as part of Operation Frequent Wind as Saigon was falling at the end of the Vietnam War. Nice footage of Major Buong landing the small plane. Thank you to all Veterans who have served our country honorably.
Awesome video man ! Me and my wife are going to visit San Diego next week , and we will visit Venice soon . Dankeschon ! 😎👍
My son’s Cubscout group and I slept on the midway and were given a special tour of non public areas
I learned this was the flagship during the Gulf War, the decisions were made on this ship. I can still remember watching tv as the missiles were hitting Iraq.
If it wasn’t for you German Venice I would have never seen any of what you do. Thanks so much. Excellent share.
Still educating us I see well done
Wow, did I just see Senator John H Glenn Jr plane on the Midway. That guy I's a legend, the first American to orbit the earth and the 5th human in space. That's worth the entry fee just to see and touch his plane. What a huge vessel, a floating town. Thanks Mike. 😊👏👍🇺🇲
German, thank you for the amazing video and for taking us along with you. Also thank you to all those who have served🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hi Mike! I absolutely love this and of course I’m interested this is right up my alley I love stuff like this! Thank You for sharing this cool and awesome video Mike I truly enjoyed it! TSCHUESSING!!🤩👋
I’ve been following you since this covid began and was thinking “I want to go Venice Beach area and try to find/meet him.” Here he is in Sunny SanDiego! Lol!
Always Great way to spend quality time online. Thank YOU for your service! And can’t wait hopefully soon to meet you sir! Tschüss!
🇺🇸WOW, GERMAN!!!--THAT'S QUITE A STORY ABOUT ALL THOSE HELICOPTERS GETTING PUSHED OVERBOARD JUST TO LET THAT FAMILY LAND!🇺🇸--GOOD VIDEO GERMAN!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸!!!!!!!
Thank you! I will be back in San Diego in a week and a half attending this museum. It will be the first time in over 30 years that I've been in town. And thanks for the sentiment I was in the Navy. I'll be paying attention to the uniform colors and various jobs as I was a Nuke serving in the engine room on a cruiser and I never understood them to me they were just 'topsiders'.
😁👍amazing information
I remember the saying if you're from North 405 don't come here but that was back in the eighties again I want to thank you for bringing back memories that I need to see
When u posted this, it was like 1 am, I watched and as I was leaving a comment, I fell asleep! Thanks for taking us on this wonderful trip. I’ve been enjoying some fighter jets flying low for a few weeks over my place. Years ago it wasn’t so rare, who doesn’t love that sound!? Last week one came by, but the second time he done a big sideways turn and circled twice,, I loved it so much I was screaming outside ! Lol thanks for all our service men and women out there!
Incredible, this were the "good old times". It seems to me, like SD is still a great place to visit.
I inspected the carrier "Wasp" in Kiel, Germany at the begin of the 60s, one of the attractions I will never forget.
Well done, "German in Venice"!
How's the Devil Dude and his dog doing? Fun to watch, thanks!
You will see him soon
I"ve spent hours on that ship (mostly in the hangar bay and flight deck), it's definitely one of my favorites. When i was on land duty for a short time i did several retirements on the Midway. One time after an event i wandered off into the ship just out of curiosity. I got lost for quite a while, knew i'd eventually figure it out so i just checked out some offices and workshops and stuff. It's a strange experience being the only person sitting in the center of an aircraft carrier, lots of sounds, creeks and pops echo like a giant floating steel drum. This was all before they turned it into a museum, when it was docked in Bremerton, WA.
So nice to see you again, Michael! Missed you! You ROCK! 💕🙏🤗✌️
Thank you for this awesome video! Thank you for you & your sweet smiling face! 🤗
Welcome to SD! Top Gun has a ton of filming sites here, such as Kansas City BBQ, Cabrillo National Monument, and the blue house in Oceanside. Look them up and go visit!
Thanks for sharing German I love watching your videos!
I just love this channel and your personality! ❤
Ditto!👍🤗💖🇺🇸🇩🇪
He's comfortable right?
Can you show us where Beverly hills 90210 and Melrose Place were filmed? That would be great.
Yes, BH90210!
I served on board 1975-1977 I was a HT. I make the trip out to her every couple years just for the memories.
I had the privilege of visiting the USS Midway a few times, it took me 2 visits to see most of it. Well worth a trip to see it 👍
The F14D Tomcat was and is always the most beautifull fighter!! I'm french and we have the Mirage 2000, the Rafale, the Euro-Fighter...etc, a lot of beautifull fighters but the F14 is just a piece of art!!!
Your sound effects!😊
Something different ....fun! Never knew about the helicopters.being sacrificed to save the family in the plane. 🚁🚁🚁
Appreciate the tour Mike! 🙂👌
Stay safe & well 👍
What a great time in gorgeous San Diego ...your so fun and cute with us.🤗🤗🤗
I use to live behind the San Onofre nuclear power plant in base housing when I was growing up. Love how everyone finds the humor in the nuclear breast. Lol
I worked that flight deck for years day and night month after month. . I saw some incredible things. A great part of my life.
I visited SAN Diego about 10 years ago. I sawed it was a fantastic place. We also visited the Midway. It’s huge, very interesting 🤔

ONE OF YOUR TOP 10 VIDEOS. THANKS
Thanks for the tour of the USS Midway! Cheers!
Hi German in Venice 🎥🎬
Mike great trip to share 👍

Great video. Looks like they are ready to deploy. We've been in lockdown for over a year, only people outside have masks on, except for homeless. Emergency sirens going off every half hour. Virus spreading. Lots of volcanoes spreading ash, making it difficult to breath. I'm close to Niagara falls and I go day by day. Thanks for sharing. Hospital stays are a million bucks there. A friend Nick was there last year, and those doctors cut off a lot of body parts, and finally he could only blink one eye, then died. Take care.
What an amazing tour! I had no idea the variety of planes and equipment let alone the size of the ship! Thank you. This was so impressive . In person this must have been incredible!
You ALWAYS make me smile😁. I love all your stories and videos. Keep em coming Mike😘💖💝❤️😻😍🥰💗💘
Wow Mike this is one of your best vlogs EVER ❤️thank you so much for sharing ❤️✌️🏴
Memories from the corner of my mind! 🥰 I love San Diego, stayed there in 1993 for a couple of months. Viele Grüße an Seeräuber Opa Fabian!😅👍🏻⚓️

Good stuff dude. Been waiting on this vid
Oh wow. I was in LA 1998,1999 and 2003 and popped down to San Diego, but of course no USS Midway when I was there. Will have to have a trip back as would love to visit the ship.👍🇬🇧 Real scary about the homeless in Venice and surrounds...it is sad & crazy times for so many...that was a real surprise also since my last trip out there...as I remember traders with stalls, not homeless families in tents...
Awesome and thank you for sharing!
Thank you, and see you in your next video!
God bless you!
Another great video! Thank you GIV!

My dad worked on the midway back in the early 90’s.. I remember seeing it when it was in San Pedro, b4 they turned it in to a museum
That glass walkway was freaky , I don’t think I could have walked there . Enjoyed the episode, thank you .
We need to go step out on the U shaped glass walkway over the Grand Canyon!
Thank you for taking us travelling to San Diego, and the Midway!
Well done again...Thanks
