Your content is excellent Ben, always good to watch. I'm in South Scotland so geogprahically and culturally we're not so far apart. You've inspired me to step it up sim racing wise, I've been "sim racing" since I was a teenager with the Geoff Crammond games and put more hours into GPL, F1C, rf1/2 than I'm wiling to admit. This past year you've turned me to MP, Racerom first but now iRacing - thank you.

People too easily dismiss that a lot of what cheaters enjoy about cheating has nothing to do with "winning" or finishing higher than anyone/everyone else. They often simply enjoying RUINING THE EXPERIENCE FOR OTHERS. THAT is the part that many of these people like the most. Don't think for a minute that they are "losing" because they're not racing fair and clean. They're often just miserable human beings and they want to spread their misery like a virus. The more victims they claim, the happier they are.

I gotta say it doesn’t bother me if people cheat in non competitive races(or anything that’s doesn’t have money on the line) as long as they race clean and don’t ruin other peoples races. What bothers me more is some drivers lack of accountability. For ex I was on ACC yesterday on brands hatch and this BMW named bulla saw that a red farrari was going to pass him for 3rd, he thendoor bangs the farrari pushing the farrari off track into the barrier which leads to a bigger incident then after the race people called bulla out only for him to deny it, blame it on the farrari, or claim that because he finished on the podium that his action don’t matter because he is better/faster. It’s so much fun to spend 15-20 min fighting from the back to get to 5th and catching 4th-3rd only to have my race ruined by a crash that was intentional.

There are a few things in sim racing that really annoy me but, I’ll be honest, cheating isn’t one of them. Why? Because it has no impact on me, or my enjoyment. So I just can’t relate to it in any way.
To be able to benefit from these cheating hacks, these drivers need to be pretty serious and fast already. Far faster and more serious than me. So cheating this sophisticated really isn’t going to impact me in any way - I’m not going to lose positions because of it, as they’d be way ahead of me anyway. If someone of my skill level decided to try these cheats, chances are they wouldn’t be good enough to see any real benefit from it anyway 🤣
As for the eSports guys, I don’t care if they cheat as much as they like. Again, it’s an arena I have no feeling of connection or affinity with. So not something I lose any sleep over.
For me, the things to worry about in sim racing are rage, deliberate wrecking, toxic behaviour… all the things that directly affect my experience in some way.

@@chrisemma9556 Yeah I can understand why people who invest a lot of time into practicing will feel a bit aggrieved by it. But for me personally, it’s not an issue. I don’t practice, I don’t strive to be the fastest. I just hop in once a week or two when I fancy a race. So it really has no impact or bearing on my enjoyment 😃

When it comes to straight up cheating like altering the game is definitely bad. However, exploiting game mechanics like using grass to cool the tires, under steering the car to drive faster, or creating sketchy setups that break rules of physics are faults of the simulator. Drivers and driving teams (in IRL and virtual) are always gonna find ways to push the boundaries. This is part of motorsports DNA. This scenario is still bad as it is not necessarily realistic in a pure way, but it's better than the other side of cheating.

Hello Ben. Concentrating on the point in hand. In my opinion, any individual that feels the need to manipulate any medium, rule, or arena by underhand method for the sole purpose of gaining advantage over an opponent is a despicable human being. Whether it is for financial gain or to promote a false representation of themselves amidst what is an overall good community, those that go along this route should be both named and shamed, and if technology allows, permanently banned from any racing community. The whole ethos behind any community is to take part in it and enjoy . That enjoyment can and is quite frequently spoilt by some individuals who take great delight in purposely setting out to do just that. Drive safely all. 👌❤️

Away from the cash prizes of E-sports, some people cheat because they have fragile egos that won't alow then to appear average. Private (friends only) lobbies are probably the best solution to avoiding the antics of these sad -sacks.

I hope there is some progress on this cheating problem pretty sharpish.
I've only been sim racing properly for about 6 months, and I'd absolutely hate for the hobby to "die" or at least have its mainstream opinion severly diminished before I've even had the chance to get into it in depth!

100% but even this past weekend in Australia we had the opening round of supercars. New Mustangs and Camaros. The heamogony team (Red Bull) who won were disqualified for cheating. Just like in esports the fans need to unfollow and not support these teams.

I think it's across lots of the sims, including F1 2022. There's no way a lot of these esports racers can get these lap times without cheats. That's why I don't do much multiplayer races anymore and would never watch esports. What for!

  • @BOTRacing

Glen Jaig said it, the best way to defeat cheaters is to have "friends only" lobbies. The problem with the paid races is that everyone is at home. I think if you want to get paid, then you should also have your computer "open" to the governing body while in those championships.
Ben, I'm not at your level yet, but even being a back marker doesn't mean I want to see a cheater pass me like I'm not even trying.

cheating in sim racing is as wide spread as steroid use is in sports/bodybuilding .... that is to say , everyone .. EVERYONE at the top ranks is required to cheat or you dont get to that rank ...

The reason you should care if ppl cheat in your non competitive lobbys, when people cheat it forces others to do the same to be competitive. If you don't want to be competitive then I'm not sure where your enjoyment in sim racing comes from..

  • @bernardausterberry6174

Let's face it, cheaters aren't racers. They are child like individuals who were were lead to believe winning is everything. If they were mature adults they could look back at their history and see something was learned from most losses. That the loss by .5 second was more educational and fun race than the win by 2 seconds. How much race craft is picked up cruising around alone at the front. As in real life, most of us have more educational losses than comfortable victories. And are better for it. There's more conversations about the mid field battles than the lonely winners. How many times have you cursed the TV director for wasting too much time on the lonely leader. Instead of the battle a few places back. A real racer will enjoy the journey as well as the destination.

  • @lessthanexpertracing626

    My honest opinion? Who cares?
We're talking less than one percent of the sim-racing community.
Is there cheating in eSports? Absolutely, it has been going on for years in every competitive MP game you could care to mention. Cheating, or bending the rules, in sim-racing should hardly come as a surprise. Especially considering that it takes place in real racing as well.
There are technical loopholes, there are things the rule-makers didn't consider, there are outright bribes, there's copying of tech. If you add sim-racing to that loop, there are all kinds of ways you might be able to find a loop-hole.
What you're talking about is the difference between the spirit of the law, and the letter of the law.
And human beings being what they are, the letter of the law will always triumph. Especially if there's a cash prize at the end.
    So......
You can either accept that at the very top, people will jump through all sorts of hoops, some of them illegal, in order to gain an advantage, and then go on your merry way enjoying your hobby.
Or you can don your Quixotic armor, and go tilting at windmills.

Less than 1% lol have you played F1 22 lately? Most lobbies of cheaters so it filters down.
I agree every game has them, the only difference is the way it's managed. The new players will care as they just get beaten up on for the entertainment of egotistical numbats.
I'm glad it's getting more publicity as It would have put me off over spending on sim gear. Don't get me wrong I still enjoy it buy there's no way I would have went down the rabbit hole I did only to find out there's tanking, disguised intentional wrecking and race fixing in ALL splits not just the top 1%.
