  • "Railroad" apartments sprung to prominence as a solution to overcrowding during the great waves of immigration in the mid-nineteenth century. With a long, rectangular shape similar to that of a railroad car, many of these floor plans still exist in modern-day Brooklyn.
    Today we see inside two identical railroad-style apartments that now house artists - two roommates live on the top floor, and a couple live directly below them. See how this unique floor plan continues to make life possible for young people making a life in the city on limited means - just as it has for years before this!

    Needs slower editing and a more detailed walk-through of each room. Like, the couple's living room looked really nice, but I couldn't get the overall picture of it cause it was just snapshots. I don't know if there's a reason why they don't extend this to at least 10 minutes long - but they should and they easily can since they've got footage.

    what does A line mean? I saw this kind of terminology a lot for NYC apartments but no one ever explained them well.

    • @apartmenttherapy
      @apartmenttherapy  Před 9 měsíci +2

      It’s when apartments in a building run along the same section of the building, from floor to floor, that results in them having the same floor plan. Also can be related to the water line that passes through and is connected to a line of apartments.
      For example, in a building, Apartment 2A runs on the same line as 3A (The A line). 2B and 3B run on the B line and so on. Hope that breakdown helped

    I would have to have the room with the most light for an Art Studio no matter where it was in the "railroad" style apartment

    1:36 I would ambitiously try to change the entire floor plan. Is the entrance hall really needed? I would bump out the "middle room". Doing so would close off the "back room door but would create space for a hallway yo connect all three rooms. Then I would close off the existing doorways and create a hallway instead. Where the exterior entrance hall used to be. The bedroom would loose a bit of space to create already alcove for a door.

      Those are actually public hallways not there personal space so there would be no way for them to close it off and use it that way

    Did she say college professor? Professors are well payed. At least in Sweden. And they are quite old as it takes a long time to get PhD then post doc and then associate professor and then professor. They also dont have time to do other things as they are always researching.

      I’m assuming she teaches only few hours. In US, the salary is determined by degree( she has a master’s, only few end up getting PhD), area they work in (science and business ect get paid more), experience (ideally tenure or 10+ years ).

      Probably not a full professor but may be an associate professor. Depends on the subject too as some such as science, medicine and mathematics take longer to get post graduate/doctoral than, say, subjects in the arts/humanities.

    If I'm honest I much prefer the girls apartment, fairer distribution of space and a more homely feel to it.
    I will say its very obvious that the young lady in the couples apartment moved in with him and obviously feels the need to let him still dominate the home

    cute concept Nice people sweet host....but......The background music makes this video unwatchable. I have to turn it up so loud to hear the people talking over the noise. Then the music is blaring. Why do all CZcamsrs put that stupid music in the background of their videos?! It's just annoying and I STOP watching even if I want to see it I can't stand the racket.
