Reminds me of my teen years...living in the green mountains of Vermont, listening to Old & In The Way...smoking a joint by the river, listening to this song and so many others...so long ago. Yet the music...it never changes the memories. Before I enlisted, before I grew up...when I was still young at heart. My own music has brought me all over this country. And this is yet another Strings memory...I have so much respect for these guys. To remember the easier times...when life was different...for all of us. Thank you Billy & Co...
Absolutely reminiscent of the Old and In the Way version. That album still is one of my very top favorites ever.
That and Peter Rowen, “Free Mexican Air Force” with the full story line...”you drive!” Lol...Music is in my heart and soul. I even moved my family from Vermont to Texas, Round Rock (right outside of Austin) to play with better musicians. Eventually to make more then “your getting publicity” coupled with the typical “here’s your two free drink tickets & here are the items on the menu you can order that are covered.” I was very fortunate to have played with those that I did. And, I could work for my money. And love my work. Music! So, Billy & Company...I love these guys, as a musician. There’s nothing like being surrounded by so many people’s energies all caught up in those golden strands of music, all around you...you know where every other musician is going to go...before they go there...and they know you. Having never met but only on stage one time. I hope these guys keep on filling me & so many others with goodness. Be well all!
Wow, made a grown man cry again Billy. This song gets me every damn time. Oh and the other members of the band don't get enough credit, I'm sure he'd say the same thing.
Billys smile at the end is always so endearing. Blessed are those who give of themselves to lift others.
Billy Strings is an artist on the ascent. He sounding better and better. he could be one of the very best.
Steven, I am smelling what you're stepping in! I read a comment months ago that said
"This kid could be bigger than Johnny Cash" I think he's next best thing, it's just that bluegrass doesn't have a huge demographic historically, but it's growing!
@@kylecarlson9026 The good thing he appeals to a younger audience. That audience feels Main Stream Country is to slick and pop oriented.
Billy strings is definitely one of the most talented musicians I have seen in years , decades
@@kevinconnell2471 Agree. He's bringing a new style and sound to Bluegrass. Much as the New Grass Movement did 50 years ago.
This guy is amazing!
Billy Strings breathes a new excitement into the American music scene.
Those that know, know. ❤
Never been into folk or bluegrass music. But, Christ is this kid captivating. I've never heard of him. You can tell he's got a super old soul. I will have to check more of him out. Incredible performance.
Check out this impromptu jam with his dad.. czcams.com/video/zcPKt2-9P7U/video.html
It’s addicting imo and it will grow on you, I grew up with my parents playing it and I hated it
🥰🥰🥰 these guys can't be beat.
WoW ❤ Thank y’all for resurrecting “Old & in The Way”!!!
Im sure I’ll get this to 1 million views alone, beautiful song.
Billy rocks, surely one of the best guitar players out there!
This man and the humans that surround him are the spiritual equivalent of the great souls that I’ve love. Shine on brother.
Damn boy got me all teary eyed
Billy and the rest of the band.....damn boys you hit the spot again. Thanks for once more giving me a high cool note to mellow down to after a hard day. Wish I was much younger and your Roadie. Wild Horses wouldn't drag me away.
This sounds really sweet. This young man is talented.
Amazing Artist #billystrings you feed my soul ..
My friend David "Robo" Robinson played this song all the time. I miss him and how sweetly his mandolin sang. Good memories.....
The old and in the way version. Always my favourite version.
For someone who is capable of producing some of the hottest licks on the guitar today lts nice to see Billy showing a more laid back style letting the song speak. What a master performer he is Kieth and Mick will be well pleased .
Old & in the way
love most every version of this i've ever heard but always tended toward the Old and In the Way take...this is right there. this kid is a once in a lifetime talent and fortunately for me he likes to play my favorite songs!
What a throwback. To “Old and in the way”
Wow, Billy can play and sing anything - any genre and give it a new flair! Grateful for his sharing his talent!
Wow!!! These guys are amazing. So so good. These "kids" play and sound like seasoned veterans. They make beautiful music! ♥️🎵🎶
Tears of pure gratitude to this masterpiece
Tell it, Billy❣️❤️🔥🔥🔥🌞🍄🍄🍄🌾🌾🌾
Right up there with Seldom Scene...
Beautiful 🥰 absolutely captivating
Can’t thank you enough for posting this! One of the most beautiful covers I’ve ever seen. Ive lost count of how many times I’ve watched this and of how many times this version has been stuck in my head. Can’t say it enough…thank you!!!
My sweetness for ever in life love you always your Sunshine ✨
Very good ! thks
If I wasn't watching the video, I would have sworn that was Old and in the way. Very nice
Great Song choice!
Everything Billy and band does is transcendent. Lord don't let him go down the hard drug path, like so many other angels. I've cried too many tears.
Love the Stones original recording but this is an absolutely brilliant cover the Old and in the way cover, superb
Looking forward to tonight's show!✌
Absolutely amazing
Wow, freaking amazing!!!
I saw him in Pittsburgh. Amazingly talented artist. Can’t wait to see him again.
That was utterly beautiful.
Really enjoyed!
Good Lord this is so good!!
What an amazing young man
He is amazing. Loved it.
Didn't expect this to be so very good.
Master! Best Stones wishes from Barcelona!
beautiful
Nice Cover of a Cover. Nice Andy Thorn Hub Shirt!
I still say this is a Gram Parsons song the Stones covered.
Just checking the comments to see if anyone actually knew the true author. Nailed it, my friend.
That awesome voice...sounds real, like a lanky guy from Arkansas with a face burned brown working in the fields.
Dam better than expected
Thank you for this cover, you did the Stones proud!
This is actually a very faithful cover of Old and In the Way's version (Dave Grisman and Jerry Garcia). They Blugrass'ed it up first. But these guys nail it.
@@williamwoods1657 that is true but the stones still wrote it, so the comment still stands 😉
Stones were blues now Bluegrass, thanks Billy.
Gram Parsons would be so proud.
They basically own this song now. Makes the Stones' sound like a cover.
Yeah right. Quit blowing this kid. Going up on “horses” ruins the the melody. So many hipster dick riders.
Easy there Rich…it was nice, but I think your out kicking your coverage.
Disagree strongly. This here is like many other terrible covers of this very special song: overdone, a sentimental whine spiraling nowhere but into bo-hoo-land. That Banjo solo is plain awful, even for a Banjo solo.
"Old and in the way" , Peter Rowan
He will go far. He plays with the young artists and the old proven bands, without bias. 😂
Fucking amazing!!
I believe Mick and Keith wrote it and gave it to their friend Gram
"Old and in the Way" is one of my all-time favorite albums. I hope you have the opportunity to work/play with The Dawg. By the way, your mandolin player is phenominal.
The whole band is phenomenal.
I was fortunate enough to see them at Mars hall in Huntsville ALA, from the first note to the last it was like they played with the same heartbeat. 1/23/20 was one of the best nights of my life.
If you can see them live, do it! You won't regret it. Peace to you and yours
And through David Grisman, a direct connection back to Jerry Garcia, Bill Monroe and Stephane Grappelli.
@@TheBamaKid1962 I agree. I singled out the mandolin (sorry, I don't know his name.) because of my reference to David Grisman. I've watched more videos of Strings with his band than almost anyone else (except, maybe for TTB.). I look forward to seeing Billy and who ever he brings next time they're near me.
🐐
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Pretty
Old and in the way cover of stones with a beeber hairstyle. Nice
Play the Mishawaka again please so I can legally see y'all live!
Is this the original Billy and the Kids group? What a great band, what great songs, and what a great guitar player is Billy Strings.
@@kathrynsoutee1078 Kreutzmann original Dead drummer and some youngsters!
I wish there was a studio version!!
Look up "Old and in the Way" with Grisman, Garcia and Rowan. This is Billy paying homage to them.

Jerry is looking down and smiling, Jerry was there.
Hey handsome William I'm gonna go ahead and ask for your love forever an ever you are amazing talent and I love you till the end of time
😎👍
Do any of you other guys of a certain age think this is Seldom Scene meets the Glimmer Twins? Sounds like Live At The Cellar Door quality music.
🐴
gram parsons
Gram wrote it, even Mick’s brother days so. Gram and Keith were hanging out writing together at the time, and Gram’s Burrito Bros put the song out first. Anyone who knows the first thing about Jagger should know he doesn’t give away songs, especially ones this good.
This guy is a gun
Transcendent
Billy needs a Vassar.
Gram Parsons song
Hmm... the young lad sounds great in almost everything he touches. The torch is passed thru many young artists ...... for those who seek it ...... Comparison ??? why
Who is in the band?
it's a cover of the peter rowans cover, a cover of a cover
Ouch
where was I?.. when u were getting high??
Mandolin players change like Spinal Tap drummers.
Its great sound but Old and In the Way made this version in the early 70's
Jerry Garcia style. Nice.
Billy havin fun. need a haircut son
Enormous talent filmed on crap phone.
sounds nice... (but i frkn hate tattoos)
why do people insist on thinking they can do a better job, or even a comparable one to the original? IF you want to shine, and show your stuff....amaze me with your own creativity and quit trying to make a name for yourself off other peoples hard work and success. You got talent kid, but you wont gain me as a fan, nor will any other artist, by simpply doing covers. Nice effort, tho I didnt care for it myself, it doesnt fit the style, for me. Someday you will make it, I just hope you try to do it with YOUR content. Peace ☮
Johnny, I'd say that you shouldn't judge the artist by just one video or song. Like many artists, Billy's shows include covers and originals. The originals are very good. The covers are usually very solid as well, and mostly serve as a tribute to the songwriter. I think Billy is very mindful about turning on his young audience to the older generation of bluegrass artists, which is a good thing for the genre!
Dude... Artists cover songs all the time.
You DO realize that the Stone's first few albums consisted of entirely cover songs right? They started off as a cover band.
One of my favorites
