- How to hover manually, and how to anticipate the helo's responses and inputs you need to control it. Took a bit of time - I decided to rework it. Then rework it again. Hopefully for the better. Enjoy.

Since this video was made, hover hold has been implemented, altitude hold has been broken-and-fixed. One thing to note, is now before you even raise the collective, your pedals probably need to be slightly to the right of centre (see forum.dcs.world/topic/309212-anti-torque-pedal-rigging-since-dcs-271830348-open-beta/#comment-5054028). Then as you raise collective you'll add left pedal, probably end of with more left than right pedal input as you go wheels light.
your tutorials are the only reason I haven't quit trying to hover/fly this seemingly uncontrollable platform. I have had psychotic girlfriends that were easier to manage lol
That being said continual practice and following your advice has made ALL the difference! Can't wait until I can move on to 'pew-pew' mode. But, patience Grasshopper
Congrats on taming it. Having a solid feel on how to fly it also helps the weapons be more accurate or in control - ie. keeping the pipper on target.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Volk! This is exactly what my problem was. I knew that there was no way a RL Apache pilot could deal with this chopper slopping all over the place. The DCS folks had a big laugh at me because I brought up the fact that it was unflyable with the default settings. I could not figure out how to get my Thrustmaster Hotas axis dialed in properly. These curves work! It is unbelievable that ED has not said much about this or has not provided a few different curve setting profiles for the popular joysticks on the market. KUDOS to you man!
Glad it's working out for you.
Ok your my new instructor I as doing everything exactly backwards thank you
Glad it helped
Nicely done video looking into the subtle nuances of the hover.
@Volk:
Excellent tutorial playlist!
Could you please do another tutorial on how to come to a hover from a flight in higher speeds?
I find it very hard to come to a clean stop/hover without getting the apache to high while slowing down.
That would be great... maybe you could spend some of your precious time for us on another tutorial?
Thanks. I'll have to see about getting round to that. In the meantime, maybe these help: czcams.com/video/Udm12zsPn9s/video.html

It's very similar to hovering normally, don't be hasty with your deceleration into the hover - otherwise you won't anticipate lowering the collective smoothly to prevent climbing too much with the pitch-up, and you might be too soon/late with raising collective as you lose lift from losing speed. And of course issues with any of those might lead to issues with your pedals.
as always , thank you sir . love your Helo Videos
I'm aspiring right now ;-) Good stuff thanks Volk!
wow, you finally got out of the KA 50, lol, sweet
hehe. For a few seconds, yeah ;-). Nah, just real life got in the way.
@@volkvoort oh no volk, they going to make your fav helo, a wee bit harder, lol, geesh, all you got to do is cold start, take off, auto through all your checkpoints, airfield 1 or 2, and land shut down, like the hardest helo to fly. did take awhile to get the ABRIS fully understood, but your videos got me threw it
@@polarbear4198 Heh. Just means I think you gotta set a either set some landmarks on the mission editor, or find some landmarks on the ABRIS, make them a fix point then aim shkval at it/fly over, fix INU. I'm liking that added simulation. Will have to see how frequent/big that drift is, e.g. should one fix it every hour or what the deal is.
Thanks for this amazing video. But, how or where to set the pilot trimm key?
Force Trim/Hold Mode Switch R/Up under the "HOCAS" bindings
