its crazy how they actually made storm support your team more and its an actual unique way to do it⁉️
As a Naut main, this made me really happy! The idea of putting out a storm and it not only displacing/damaging the enemy team, but also actively protecting/healing your own team is SUCH a creative and and useful buff for the special! It's a borderline rework, frankly!
@@sethfeldpausch4337 as also a naut main, omg ikr!! storm being able to support your own team is such a cool feature and it can mean you can be more aggressive in your own storm aswell 😱
Honestly when I played Splat2, I was surprised it didn't already do that. It LITERALLY rains your team's ink on top of you, come on!
As an active Tent main AND EXPLO, I can’t wait to go back to Explo for a bit more now.
@@alfredc.7777
Love Explo too! I always end up loving weapons with point sensor subs 😂 even though I don't really like point sensor.
The Ballpoint nerf makes me so sad, if it was some small insignificant nerf I wouldn't care but it's accuracy is the identity of the weapon, the devs have always been so good about not tweaking core aspects of weapons like that, it's so genuinely upsetting to see as a very long time Bp player
EDIT CRISIS AVERTED ITS EXTREMELY MINIMAL, only half a degree wider (1⁰ spread -> 1.5⁰ spread) all shots still go in the center reticle so it effectively still doesn't have rng if you're aiming on point, the shots still always go where you aim them, no idea why the nerf is here or why they chose now but it's at least extremely minimal
Ballpoint getting literally everything about it nerfed over the course of Splatoon 2 and 3 is a kinda big oof 😭
WHY AN RNG NERF THO??!
Like christ nerf literally anything about it if you have to, so long as its in my control I can play around it. But RNG? Who thought "yeah it needs a random number generator to decide if your shots land and thus if you win or lose the fight"
Come on nogami what are you doing?
Right when i was starting to feel confident in my ballpoint abilities too 😭 guess its time to learn pencil
This is the spiritual successor to the 81 dmg brella nerf.
i feel the devs vaguely heard that pencil cooler has helped keep the meta diverse and now theyre clinging onto that weapon for dear life now
To he honest, the first time i saw ink storm i thought that the rain droplets would heal you and your team a little faster, kinda crazy thats real now
Yeah I thought the same thing back in the day. Thats a really neat buff.
im honestly shocked that they finally acknowledged that inkbrush exists, hopefully they fix its damage falloff at some point😭😭
@@batmanbud2 they rly need to work on the brush class as a whole (no way I fcked up that spelling THAT bad💀)
Yeah I'm a brush main too and it kinda needs literally any damage buff
Yknow unlike n zap
Whoever mistranslated the patch, should be sentenced to 4 inkstorms coming in their direction
And for good measure let’s throw in an Octobrush user in the center because HP regen
Whatever that intern is paid, its too much.
Translation issues have plagued the whole series, but this one was a bad one.
@@MysteriousStranger50idk about Nintendo's translators, but I know that the majority of the time, translators are severely underpaid, so let's just say it evens out and this guy was paid exactly what they were worth :P
Ah yes, Undercover, which needs a shield and damage buff, gets… no jump penalty.
I sure was doing that anyways.
The main Zooka weapons have a little less output, the Stampers can't put out Zips or Crabs as well, the competing Cooler weapons are worse, Ink Storm is buffed, and BP players might be looking to try out another backline now, and in this new environment, Pencil is unchanged.
This was a stealth Pencil Buff update. Wild
By looking to try out another backline you mean switching to pencil??? (it's the only good option)
Not only they didnt adjust pencil 5H but pencil 5B was also indirectly buffed since it has rain, pencil meta is real…
There's going to be some crazy person, who probably said pencil was amazing back when it first released, that's going to be like "None of you listened! I warned you, but nobody believed me!!!"
To be quite honest pencil did only 60 damage back then, after that buff tho yeah they can say it
We should just name the current meta "pencil hell". It just sounds good to me and seems pretty accurate as to what's happening with the backlines rn
I'm not a competitive player so I don't understand it that much. The thing is that is that good that the other backlines are overshadow by it? Correct me if i'm wrong.
@@juliansiles5410 I don't know the whole situation but if I had to guess based on what ProChara said I think it's special spam with tacticooler
@@juliansiles5410on top of it being the best weapon for cooler spam in the meta where just about anything works as long as you have one cooler weapon, it has e liter range, and while it does take 2 shots to splat, it gets 5 shots in the amount of time e liter gets 1.
I’m not a competitive player, but even I don’t think nzap needed a buff!
Especially when there are weapons no one uses for they are just kind of... eh
non-tent-Brellas, H3/L3, explosher...
The newspaper opening was funny
This opening and the opening for the shooter vid were just pure comedy
-Friendship- Rivalry ended with Splash o Matic,
Now Snipewriter is my biggest -friend- Rival
I super love the Ink Storm buff
I've said this before but, since they're buffing Storm which the other pencil has, I think they're trying to see whether to nerf pencil or cooler. If both pencils dominate, then they nerf pencil. If 5h alone dominates, they nerf cooler. Obviously both have problems, but in the heads of Nintendo's balance team you could see how they're trying to be careful.
Issue is they're being TOO careful, resulting in a lack of decisiveness in patches. I fear we're entering another era of devs creating a monster and doing nothing about it for at least half a year like they did with Crab at launch
Alright that intro with the newspaper was pretty funny. Especially the Splat Tim article.
I don't think you understand the utility of Dynamo roller now, it's chances to actually hit the enemy went from 0.082% to 0.16%! This is a huge buff!
What concerns me even more than the patch is how many interns have been fired for mistranslations and spelling errors by now 😭
They should've given the damage buff to undercover, NOT NZAP
I want frame reduction in dynamo, so it could actually land its swings.
I don't know what to think anymore...
Agree, splatbrella also needs a damage buff I feel. It used to do 18 damage per pellet, now its 16 IIRC but the weapon also has a damage cap where a single shot cant do more damage than that cap. This needs to go IMO.
I feel like making Dynamo faster would ruin its identity. It's supposed to be incredibly slow and punishable.
But... it's also supposed to be a powerhouse, and it's not.
I want them to buff the minimum damage of the horizontal flick from 40 to 60, so it's a guaranteed two shot, and buff the minimum damage of the vertical flick from 40 to 80, so it's guaranteed to hit like a truck, and has better kill range.
That would mean that, while it's still unreliable and slow, it's at least powerful enough to justify it.
@@babywizard9027 fine don't buff the swing speed, but allow swing cancel, now THAT would be nice and helpful.
I think that (for the wave buff) the first little wave that it shoots out really quickly will also locate players, but not damage them. This would still make it dodgeable, but more likely to locate people.
I'm imagining the Wavebreaker buff involves the initial ring that expands outwards to indicate the range. I beat _that's_ what locates players. Which means it's the equivalent of a GIANT point sensor. Which also means *Special Power Up* increases its range further. This is as close as we're getting to Echolocator returning to the game.
...Provided I'm right.
As a Tri Nouveau main, I feel so sad seeing its points for special nerfed for a THIRD time. Why can't Nintendo just leave my weapon alone 😭
I remember hearing a few months ago that pencil isn't as popular in Japan... Is that still the case? If so, that could explain why it isn't getting many changes. Perhaps they don't want to nerf something that isn't popular in the largest part of the competitive community.
End of splatoon 2 -> Shooter only
End of splatoon 3 -> Pencil only
Bp caught the biggest stray nerf in this patch
One thing that could potentially come from this Ink Storm buff is we could see players be able to tank just a tiny bit more during fights while under the Ink Storm, as they would be recovering hp more consistently. Potentially super interesting depth given here.
BP caught a stray this patch. As someone who genuinely enjoys splatlings when I'm not frontline ratting, it's insane. This patch was probably the most messy one so far. The mistranslations, questionable balance choices, etc. Midmeat Metalworks will be the true test of 6.1.0 tbh, and I'm not even that hopeful atp.
Could you ever make an explanation why points for special are so important? It doesn’t feel like 10p would matter all that much but top players talk about it like it’s incredibly important
Chara and DUDE having polarizingly different opinions on this patch is hilarious, especially given the mistranslations
I don't care about the Roller class, not a fan playing it or fighting against it, BUT this clip of Dynamo not hitting the standing dummy was hilarious and very very sad at the same time. This poor thing need a fix!
Also Ballpoint long range nerf = indirect Charger buff -> Let's go! 🥰
they nerfed every strong cooler weapon except pencil making the weapon even more common.
WHAT R THE DEVS SMOKING ???
Next patch and pencil is not changed, Chara is going to be on a hospital bed
And here I was thinking of picking up Ballpoint...
I’m glad they buffed dynamos horizontal max damage width but imo the vertical flick minimum damage and hit boxes of the horizontal flick need buffs the most. A reduction in whiting frames would be a nice bonus too.
Yeah, overall, I'm pretty disappointed with this patch. This is another one of those negatives overwrite the positives patches.
I hope they make Mincemeat good. I hate that stage a lot.
If Rain becomes a strong regroup tool, then maybe, JUST maybe a coolerless composition is possible, while also having a means to survive Jet and Zooka coolerless, can more easily set up a Crab or Booyah to deal with Pencil
The thing that's crazy to me isn't even that this patch; with a pretty significant brella buff, super cool additions to specials lacking in swag, and otherwise pretty neat tweaks; is seen as a disappointment.
The crazy thing is that it's right to be disappointed.
i love the little animation bit of the newspaper for patch notes. that was amazing
I love the newspaper start, and splat tim!
It’s times like these where I wonder if Splatoon players even like this game.
i like the game its just incredibly frustrating to wait months for patches that end up doing so little for the game
That’s two openings with Chara in Splatsville.
What the f*** were the devs cooking though in giving Nzap MORE buffs?
What about the other weapons they focus more on the popular overused ones rather than make it even but the interesting thing about this was that Ink Storm buff which will be crazy to see out more often
I’m no competitive Splatoon 3 player, I play in S+1 and don’t really X rank or take part in tournaments. However, I think N-Zap 89 is something competitive players should be considering now. With the damage buff from 28-30, the reduction of rng and the super chump buff back in 4.1.0, were they increased the radius of the 70.0 damage radius. These are all buffs to N-zap 89 and not just the N-zap 85, which was overshadowing it. Also, with the 30.0 damage shot, it can now combo with the 70.0 damage super chump, making this weapon even more of a threat. Especially with snipewriter 5H (pencil) being more dominate then ever with cooler overshadowing N-zap 85. Along with N-zap 89 being considered a high low tier (according to ProChara’s recent zones tier list). N-zap 89 has high potential to be a good mid-tier weapon and even a high tier, by people like me who want to try and push this weapon to its fullest potential. I’m not saying it will outclass Custom Dualie Squelchers but will have the potential to be an amazing super chump weapon after this balance patch.
Honestly I kinda disliked it's rng buff but I don't mind the 30 damage, more weapons needs that buff (squelchers...)
chump is good at paint but the chumps can be destroyed very easily and are still fairly weak even if multiple can now kill you- it needs to actually be able to be used as decoys as the (jp) name intends
My thought is that the devs are trying to reduce the number of cooler options to nerf cooler comps indirectly. If cooler comps have to run pencil, then you can build an anti-cooler comp around countering pencil.
thats an interesting theory. still, it limits options and hurts diversity, and wouldn't really be a good solution for countering cooler as a whole in an interesting and interactive way
Bet they will next nerf the tacticooler output of pencil... by nerfing sprinkler.
After the weak start of the season balance changes these are really good imo
They sound very interesting.
Let's see how they play out! 😅😅
I'm with you. I don't play competitive so I don't deal with pencil that much. I'm happy with the nerfs to vshot, squeezer, and stamper. Lots of lower tier weapons actually got buffs. A couple of the less interactive specials got interesting new abilities. We are getting a rework of one of the worst maps in the game. This seems like a banger patch for most people.
burst out laughing at the newspaper
the fact they still didn't address the audio issues from screen is honestly the most disappointing part
these devs feel like they are like multiple Meta's behind us or something bc idk how to explain this.
3:50 guess we are about to see a bunch of splash and machine nerfs…
YOOOOO IM IN A CHARA VIDEO!!!!
Yeah pencil getting no nerfs is a massive let down. When Ballpoint was nerfed, people in the Ballpoint server just had a group therapy session lmao
Chara holding a newspaper is something I didn't know I needed
When I opened the patch notes and saw the N-Zap buff, I thought that I clicked on a fake link for trolling.
Nintendo: "Hmmm, this Cooler meta is great and all, and the specials and sub weapons are so perfectly balanced, but it feels like something is missing..."
Intern who mains N-zap: "Hey I think N-zap is a bit weak right now, we should give it a buff! To compensate we can do that one nerf, the one where we make the number go up by 10, whatever that does."
Map Designer: "Yeah, and I think there was like, some sort of complaint about a long range weapon again? Its the one based on a writing tool, like a pen or something, and its too good on Mincemeat Splatter Areas or whatever that darned mode is called..."
Nintendo: "I know what we must do."
also idk who the hell is making these intros but they make me laugh my ass off
Beacon wail on Sploosh worked in S1 where wail was a giant one hit kill tunnel that the sploosh user could use to guarantee movement, not just shitty stingray
Truly the "One small step forward and two steps back" sort of balance patch.
I am looking forward to the Wave Breaker and Ink Storm changes, but I don't understand why they are so hesitant to make any significant changes to weapons, specials, and especially sub-weapons that have been needing some sort of tweak or buff for years at this point. It doesn't help that they buff or nerf weapons that clearly don't need any changes on top of that...
The one time I had any faith they buff shooters and nerf the stamper for no reason again
i think the location thing will be anybody within the radius of placement. like the wave animation when first placed down will be the location thing
The way they're intentionally edging Dynamo Roller players is insane 🤡
Thank you for posting so soon Chara I finally have my opinion on the patch now
I really enjoy the new intros on vids. ❤️
Keep doing those intro bits they’re funny as hell
I was focusing on your lil octo character more than the vid and had to rewatch it T_T its to adorable
Remember when pencil did a f to x tier speedrun
As an undercover enjoyer... I don't fuckin know, I'll take it I guess.
After this patch, I legit have close to no hope of Nova getting anything anymore. It’s the only new S3 weapon that hasn’t gotten anything to help push it up/buff it as of this patch:
Swig has Storm on one of its kits
Pencil
S-Blast has a kit that essentially makes it Grim Range
Pain has Wave on one of its kits
Dread has been seen a lot more lately
Edit has really high dps and even with the pfs nerf it has decent cooler output
Yeah, Nova got the Wail damage buff in 5.0.0, but two really good more consistent Wail options also just got buffed this same patch
It has SO much potential but they just keep ignoring it and it sucks balls :/ Hopefully they give it some kind of buff to help it, but if not I just gotta pray on its third kit knocking it up there
Nova aside though, I’m pretty excited to see how well Storm is gonna be now. It was one of my favorite specials in S2 and still is now even, so it’ll be cool to see what’ll happen with it
I should just lose hope for Undercover Brella buffs.
“at least the mincemeat rework might be good”
I think we all know where this is going so let’s just skip right to the end
Love the Sonic Colors music in the background
I have been saying for a while that Ink Storm should have healing properties since the launch of S2, and now we finally get it.
honestly zap has got to be the most privileged weapon in the entire series, its actually insane that it keeps getting all these buffs
Great job B Team. Really. Great work. You somehow manage to make your early ink armor design choices look sane in comparison. Just fantastic!
That is a lame sarcastic comment this was done by a A team and this patch has had a lot of positive feedback and N-zap deserved to be buff
"At least the Mincemeat rework might be good"
Yeah, about that...
Something I'm wondering about wave:
how do we know that the area of the location marker will be the size of point sensor? When I saw that, it made sense to me that it will mark everyone that is touching the ground and is close to the wave breaker (like an instant wave breaker wave that deals no damage)
Edit: it would seem I was incorrect 💀
as an n-zap 89 main I love these patches
I love how everyone used to complain how garbage pencil was and then now everyone wants nerfs
Pencil should be 220p now with the other nerfs the other cooler weapons got, and its damage should go to 62 so it’s not as likely to combo. But after this patch, if the ink storm buff is insane, we might start seeing double pencil comps where everyone is running a 5H and a 5B alongside two frontlines. Might be hell, we’ll see what happens
The editing on this one is crazy good
Also FORGE 200 YESS
It's kinda crazy how much they changed in this patch, like they obviously had a lot of dev time devoted to making all these changes, BUT none of the changes fix any of the biggest issues in the current meta. If anything, they might have made certain things worse by buffing weapons like Zap that didn't need any buffs!
So Dude is telling me the Patch is good. Chara tells me the patch is bad. Wha-…???!?
Legitimately this is exactly why I play for only a couple months on release and never again, Splatoon team doesn't know how to balance their game or even worse, they absolutely prefer shooters.
Why even play Rollers, Brushes, Stringers or Splatanas if it requires double the amount of skill to get to a higher rank than it does with a shooter because shooters keep being overtuned?
Completely irrelevant but my video glitched out on mobile to where the video had chapters. And it was on the undercover brella bit, it said potato famine. Petition to call bad balance patches potato famines from now on?
The font used for the "sucks" on the thumbnail is the same modified version of impact font that guilty gear strive uses
maybe side order will make up for this
You'd think a weapon slow and ink hungry like the dynamo would have great paint output or at least kill potential, but no.
Dynamo is slow, guzzles your ink, doesnt paint that well, doesnt have great range and is very inconsistent at splatting. Please, give him a buff nintendo
Pencil not getting changes

Dynamo will be the best one day😭🔥
@@Diamondking599 yeah i remember beating the boss in splatoon 1 and unlocking it😭🔥
I'm building an (impossible to prove) hypothesis that the reason the balance of Splatoon is so wonky is they purposefully make problem weapons a "control" for design studies between patches. All the coolers were nerfed / adjusted, save pencil. Now that can be framed as the "control" for the next series of design / balance changes so designers can look at why it is dominant and or why cooler is dominant: If its the weapon that needs changes (comparing 5h or 5b) they can adjust that; if it cooler that needs changes they can adjust as a result of the "chosen" weapons usage. And if both weapon and special are a problem they have data for both to continue to design study for a new weapon next patch.
Not saying this is true, but if I had to dissect the design consideration of the game to include both casual and competitive game play is the only reason I could think of so far.
I love these new intros. They are fun. I hope to see more.
Lowkey pencil yap-session. I get it though, these patches are super annoying and tend to be unnecessary while not focusing on what NEEDS to be changed
7:40 this is so perfect 😂😂
I love the Spongebob comparisons, they're so funny 😄
Damage taken while within the area of effect of the opposing team's ink storm will recover more quickly, even when not submerged in ink.
It's both human and swim form. If you're submerged in ink that means swim form.
NOOOOOOO! stamper got nerfed😢 (also another amazing vid chara keep up the great work!!
You were SO RIGHT about that Forge section-- I asked a friend "Hey, name one thing you think will be in the next Patch" and he said... "96 Deco will get PfS buff."
The reasoning?
"I wanted to pick what random shooter would get a buff. Then I was scrolling through the list of shooters and said 'Oh, Forge Pr--! They would never touch Forge.'"
So yes, some pleasant surprise here for THAT change specifically!
What is Snipewriter's usage in X rank or Turf tournaments? I think that has more weight than ranked-mode tournaments.
Anyway I think other than that weapon (specifically for competitive play) the patch is pretty cool!
x rank still includes the ranked modes so it prob isnt that different, but since x rank is full of people trying to climb to the top, there are probably a bunch more players picking meta weapons in hopes of getting more consistent wins (for a while there was vshot hell in x, apparently)
as for turf, i can't be too sure, but given how pencil is the best cooler option (at least in the eyes of the western competitive scene) but tri nouveau was nerfed, pencil probably doesn't see much use there
@@Rubellite-jq2kg I just meant that X-Rank solo queue players don't play pencil much based on what I've seen. Usually people run zap or tri for cooler (or, ran, we'll see if it changes). And in JP turf tournaments double cooler with Tri and Zap was popular for a while with some Edits too.
Famous last words at the end. You thought.
Don't worry, Chara, Dynamo will surely compete with pencil as the main cooler option (I am being held hostage)
Dynamo is meta (I am tied to a railroad)
Shhhh youre not supposed to say that your being held hostage
