The bricks don't fall in the opposite direction as you mention "right to left". They simply fall off of the brick in front that they have come to rest on. They fall so quickly it is hard to see. Cool little trick indeed.
For those that don’t understand the return…when the last brick gets knocked down there isn’t a brick to hold it on an angle like all the others so it falls flat. When that last one falls flat the previous one has no brick to hold it on the angle so it falls flat and this continues with each brick all the way back to the first one.

None of you know how this works lol. They are caps not bricks anyways and you don’t need mortar for the caps most time it’s a glue. Plus you set all the caps and then you glue one at a time to keep everything in line
First round the bricks have to tip over the next one in the row, backwards they are technically just falling so that's a lot faster. Someone on CZcams has a simple scientific video about this effect when I remember right.

When you get to the last brick (brick n), it's able to let the second from last brick (brick n-1) to move, which frees up the next all the way back to brick #1. So it makes the out and back motion.

When objects are at an angle they are longer than if they are flat. They set up each block exactly tight to each other then tipped them up. When the first block falls it's longer than when it's completely flat and catches on the next block etc. When the final block drops there's nothing to stop it from going flat and the chain reaction follows all of the way back.
