Thats right. The hood is both a place and a state of mind. One influencing the other. Its become an environment focused more on income rather than education. Territory rather than community. And when we learn to appreciate eachother for self rather than possessions or affiliations, then we move forward as a whole. We have to stop the tribalism, barbarism and begin anew.

As a white man from Detroit, it's a super interesting question. I remember when Jalen Rose was in my city with Royce da 5'9, doing promos, and getting together the funds for a new charter school. My father was recruited to help build up the schools and the curriculum. Most in the city were ecstatic for celebrities to pour money back into the community, and help with an already fragile education system.
But we had thefts, break-ins, graffiti and just general vandalism on the daily. Rose himself was seen but didn't stick around.
Unlike Nipsey, where someone was envious of his success and his stature and gunned him down because of it, Rose was more concerned with someone just wanting to make headlines. They wanted the notoriety that comes with ending a celebrity's life. They wanted to share the spotlight in whatever way they could.
Nipsey, like Rose, wanted to transform the community in a very special, and important way. Perhaps the killer had his own ideas of controlling the area and felt like Nipsey was taking over his turf. Not quite sure.
It is absolutely tragic. Obama made it a point to be in public, shake hands and be present within the community. He wanted to let people know that there was mutual trust. He didn't want to look afraid of his constituents.
Nipsey wanted to do similar work, and it is absolutely heartbreaking that he is gone. I hope people continue to go back, and give back, and not use this as an excuse to not do good for their communities. This whole thing just sucks.

Well, it has everything to do with it. I've said it for literally decades now. Hip Hop is being presented as garbage over genius and we pay the price. No one is saying anything about the poison that they peddle and how it does harm to all of us as a people. I was raised listening to the radio and the music that it presented at one point got so hateful, harmful and made a parody of us as a people, that I stopped listening to hip hop altogether. I recently, RECENTLY just discovered amazing artists like Black Thought, Dead Prez, DOOM, and others. Their music never saw the light of day. Pushed to the underground. Imagine kids in inner cities hearing music like that on the radio and how much of an impact it would have on "the culture". You can't just blindly dismiss there fact that we have been sold a horrible bill of goods and we're paying a generational price for this. Look at all the heads of these music labels. They don't look like us and they don't care about us. It's really a form of mental slavery to keep black people suppressed and oppressed. And it's not just music either........

Keep going back to the hood, keep giving back, we cant complain about it if we aren't trying to change it. It will change, we gotta believe that. Be safe of course, but be purposeful. Be purposeful where it counts the most, the hoods where you grew up and felt that hopelessness. Have faith, cant keep taking the money and the talent out the hood and thinking it will change or we will have these same convo's decades later still asking the same questions. Damn shame we gotta even have this convo.

Well if a white person makes it out the trailer park and becomes successful, it could end up the same. Everyone wants to make this a black and white thing, or about race. It's not. It is about which class you belong too. Rich/wealthy, middle class, or poor? The poor will always feel some way about the middle and upper class. The middle class will always feel some way about the rich/wealthy.
But then again, it is being said that Nipsey and the shooter knew each other and had a personal dispute. We don't know what that dispute was over to say that he was jealous or envious.
