      It's matters for safety reasons. Typically the hot is switched not the neutral so when things are turned off they are also de-energized. The neutral is ground referenced so it's unlikely to give you a shock. If you reverse the polarity, all the parts in the appliance will remain live at 120v even when off.

      iLikeC00kieDough I think the point is the electrical connection is an IEC plug not bare wires connected by those pathetic and dangerous wire nuts (which are illegal in Australia). And it is all at the back not the front.
      Whilst it doesn’t make a difference to installation per se we also connect cold water not hot, with the dishwasher heating it as required. We also have very strict temperature limits on our “hot” water. If a tankless hot water heater is used the maximum temp is 55’ C and if a tank it think it is now 60’ C. The tank temp is hotter though to kill bacteria etc and is brought down via a tempering valve.

      In the US it’s actually simpler. It’s just a hot water line. Why would you need a cold water line on a dishwasher?

      @@bcbock Their's heat the water. It is supposed to save energy, but it's minor if any.

      The Man's Garage I've seen that in most installations. My Aunt Dawn had a dishwasher installed like this, but to a traditional drain pipe setup. A gfci outlet was installed under the sink

    If smooth os "Live" then what are other 2 wires? I don't want to assume green is still green... could someone please be so kind as to specify?

    I isolate it and add another shutoff for the dishwasher. Those are notorious for problems and then you have to shut your sink down too. If you have renters add a shutoff for the unit

    Someone please help. I am planning on buying a house soon. Starting the process. A lot of houses in my area, and in my budget, do not have dishwashers. My question is this: how hard or easy is it to put a dishwasher into a kitchen where there was none before? Does it require a complete remodel of the kitchen? Does it require tearing down walls? Or is it pretty much what this guy is doing by just making some adjustments to the pipes and electrical? Because I will buy a house if it doesn't have a dishwasher if it's fairly easy and cost effective to put one in. Obviously I know a cabinet will have to come out to be replaced by the dishwasher.

      Shouldn't take more that 2 hours at the MOST. I can do it in that time, including a new breaker/circuit from the panel.

      I had my plumber install my dishwasher. It took them about a half hour. But they had already added a dedicated valve for the washer when I redid the cabinets and sink. So everything was planned out. It takes longer if you have to do a lot of modifications. For example, a dishwasher needs a dedicated GFCI outlet in my area. And we had to have a separate one for the disposal. We also had to have an air gap installed in the sink as our city doesn’t allow the high loop shown in these videos. But since it was a remodel, that wasn’t a problem. But it could take you a lot longer.

    I noticed the finished floor was missing on back right corner, did you add a small piece of 1/4 " or 3/8 to accommodate that difference, or does it not matter in the back?

    • @MarzNet256
      @MarzNet256 Před 7 lety +1

      Dick Reed The unit should be supported front and back. If the back feet can screw down far enough to reach the floor then it's fine. Otherwise, some kind of blocking/flooring is needed. The other reason it's good to have the floor go under the machine is that it's easier to spot a leak if one develops.
