    Agonizing to see you work that slowly. After painting that bit under the teak with a brush use a 7” foam roller with only enough paint to do about 3’ from top to bottom. Do it quickly. Then come back over it with the roller slowly enough and lightly enough to not cause bubbles. May have to blend that bit under the teak with a brush. Put more paint on your roller and continue like that. It’s like painting a wall, not like painting the Mona Lisa. Speed is important with most paint. Take the tape off as soon as you’re done the last coat, because it can take dried paint with it. If painting outside, what tape you use is important, because not all painter’s tape holds up to the sun as advertised. Test the tape first.

      @@susanc.8009 that’s good to know, trust me some of the other episodes are more comical and less boring, although I have to say, it was slow but really really satisfying, and yes I had lots of time on my hands too, the masking tape did come off ok as I used from memory a good grade, fortunately the boat is still inside so I’ve the luxury of being able to not have weather issues, the deck I’ve not done yet, more episodes are in the pipeline, just have to get some enthusiasm to get back at it…. Thanks for your input 👍

    Good work. You should load the tipping brush so it’s damp with paint before tipping. That way it won’t suck paint from the surface and drag it across and away from you edges

      Hi Huseyin, If you go onto the paint company called “ International boat paint” you’ll find the paint called Toplac, this is an enamel paint, mine is Oxford Blue in Colour. It usually takes two coats for brush or one for Rolling and Tipping, you can use this paint on most boat types, fibreglass,metal, wood etc. The formula is on their website. Hope this helps 🙋‍♂️😎👍

    Hi Phil, Great video! One question, If you can't get the whole job done finished in one day, can you come back the next day and pick up where you left off without noticing a difference? Thanks and all the best from California

      @philmurphy3549  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Monte, my apologies for not getting back to you quickly, I didn’t see your question until now sorry, I think you’d need to complete the area your wanting to do rather than stop halfway through, because you’ll definitely get a line from where you finish to where you start. If you look at the video’s on the upper section I’ve done, I’ve split that up into painting sections by masking in places you’ll not see, because the area is to large to do ,and keep wet to successfully do in one hit. Hope this answers your question dear boy, stay safe and thanks for your patience . California love to visit 🇺🇸🙏

      Hi Javier, The paint I use is by International Boat Paint, it’s called TopLac and the Colour is Oxford Blue.
      If you live in a hot country,maybe thin it slightly with white spirit, as this will keep a wet edge as you move along the boat 👍

      Hiya Ballygarran, at the time I was ready to paint, I didn’t have a compressor or spray gear, so I went for the rolling and tipping, I’m actually thinking of flatting the hull off and having a go at spraying it also as I think it would make a good episode plus it would show the two options, I’ve now got the spraying equipment plus,
      I’ve plenty of time on my hands haha!

      Hiya mailformiller, I considered that, but as I’ve rubbing straights nearly the full length of the boat, I decided to tip the way I did,
      I think I got what looks like a good finish thankfully. I think I partly tipped vertically on the upper sides in the cream, and I did see a slightly better finish. Thanks for your comments dear boy 🍻🙋‍♂️

    • @martizzy
      @martizzy Před 4 lety

      Phil Murphy - I liked your vid, which was good confirmation of other tipping vids I’ve watched. I’m building a 17’ paddleboard, of which I’m going to paint the hull red (Interlux). Learning about tipping, “maintaining the wet edge”, etc. Probably the biggest frustration is finding out when one should pull off the masking tape - everyone has a different answer! (Going with after the final coat has completely dried, pulling tape 45 degrees away from the paint

    • @philmurphy3549
      @philmurphy3549  Před 4 lety

      I’d film it, as it’s always useful to see alternative versions of rolling and tipping, as for keeping a wet edge I agree it’s difficult, but where I’m located (north west England) together with being in a warehouse, I wasn’t to troubled with it tacking off to quickly with the blue, but I did thin out the cream by 5% from memory due to the area’s being a little wider. Going onto to the masking tape, I had issues with a cheaper paper brand, but zero with the blue tape, and yes pulling at 45 degrees is a must, I also learnt that using a hairdryer just to put a little softness back into the paint also helps, ( well it did for me, as my warehouse is cold even in summer). Thanks for watching and your comments, and good luck with your project 🙏👍🙋‍♂️
