Great review. Nice to see a car enthusiast who appreciates a manual gearbox. I've recently bought a 2008 BMW E92 M3 and decided to get a manual even though the dual clutch DCT auto is a great gearbox. You can't beat the enjoyment from a manual box.
I feel manuals are a lot more engaging that automatics, it’s less ‘go-kart’ like. I have driven a manual E92 and they’re fab to drive the gear box for me was a bit clunky especially the reverse but overall as brilliant car, you made a very good choice! 👊🏼
Brilliant review, my wife had one then she upgraded to S3 . I have an S4 4.2 and need a runabout, but I love Quattro . I think I will get one . Brilliant little car from once you know the hereditary issues. Many thanks for the long term review
Enjoyed the video! Some good points made. Great to see a female car enthusiast-we need more. I suppose another con would be tyres....if you have to replace a tyre, it is highly recommended to replace all four! Could get pretty expensive....
Thank you very much it’s appreciated! - I agreed tyres are very expensive I always go for PS4’s on my cars, having thicker tyres on these makes the world of difference!
11:20 Brown Coolant bottle.......Head Gasket or Cracked Block. Oil to Coolant contamination. Bag is the problem in some cases....... Silicon content in Radiator and Thermostat housing creating flow issues. Cooking the engine.👍
Fellow S1 owners who has changed the “straight line running” adaption from to inactive? I did it some time back and it certainly improves the steering feedback from nothing to something.
I agree, I think they had too much potential to compete with the other S models, so Audi would have lost a lot of money there if they’d have carried on with them I think
Good Video. We’ve got 3 Audi’s all Blue {sad I know} the S1 is the least powerful of the 3. The other two are RS Models. The keys I grab when I want to feel involved and throw a car about without it been lairy are the S1 keys………keep enjoying the Car.
Many thanks for the really great & informative video! Have never seen a long term review in the net so far & really appreciate your honesty! One little question: Do you know how many rpm the car is doin in 6th gear at around 80mph/130kmh? Would love to get a short feedback to that. Keep up the awesome work! Greetings from Liechtenstein! :)
Thank you for your feedback it’s much appreciated. The RPM at 80mph is just over 3k, so if you have a modified exhaust like it doesn’t sound as ‘droney’ as it would sitting at 70mph as the valves open at 3k. I hope that makes sense ? 😁
Thanks, some useful info there. Not many vids on the S1. Recently bought one as a runabout, soon to be a stage3 runabout 😀 P.S. Sound was a bit iffy - maybe need a better microphone.

Amazing review!! Getting one in May and will follow you in getting an uprated clutch
Very useful info, especially the common faults

Great video, impressive technical knowledge and great to see that you do your own repairs.
Thank you, it’s really appreciated! 😁
Very good video. Keep making them.
My s1 oil seal went on clutch other than that luckily was perfect for 3 year. Brilliant cars. Keep up the videos 😊
Thank you! - you got very lucky with your S1 😂
Great vid n review, am currently looking for a s1 having an s3 8p sand rs3 8p in past and loved them both. I think it sounds well 😂👍
Well!, mine is actually currently up for sale on Autotrader 👀 it is back to standard but just as amazing as ever 😁

interesting video , many thanks.
Nice review. Shame they don’t produce these anymore, they had so much potential.

i've had mine for 6 months now, loving it as my first car
A VERY good first car to have!
Nice car, I opted to get the A3 2.0tfsi Quattro s line. The s1 is a little to small for me
I agree that the S1’S are quite small for some people, it’s a struggle to have people in back of them!
Did you sell the s1 in the end and what was the reason ?
Thanks, some useful info there. Not many vids on the S1. Recently bought one as a runabout, soon to be a stage3 runabout 😀 P.S. Sound was a bit iffy - maybe need a better microphone.
That sounds like a very good driveway line up. Thank you for the feedback it’s much appreciated. I am looking to invest in a better microphone 👍🏼
Awesome, one of my cons is the cost of hardware, like £1.5k+ for a named exhaust is mad
That is very true!

Hi. You a mechanic? Rob from Galway Ireland
Hi Gary, I am not a mechanic no, just someone who likes to work on their own car 👍🏼😁
1300 kg. is not very light for such a small car.
