    The waterfall cardigans are so much more flattering than the chunky, oversized sweaters, especially if you’re short. The waterfall cardigans elongate you, while the chunky squared sweaters cut you off. I think figure flattering is more important than what is “in” or “out.”

    • @hang1iderswing
      @hang1iderswing Před rokem +6

      I actually feel like the water fall adds a lot of width and thickness around the belly? Which I am personally insecure about. It might feel like it's "covering" to add a bunch of layers there but actually is exaggerating a curvy belly, and make the shoulders and bust looks smaller than the waste by flaring out there. More flattering might be a longer blazer (Tina Fey and Amy Poehler both used them to literally cover entire pregnancies during filming of different tv shows) or a longer non water-fall cardigan. Nonetheless I think they can be really pretty and everyone should wear whatever they want-- I call it a "personal classic."

      @katie-allen Před rokem +3

      @@ringwe I mean I guess, but sometimes with pointy toed shoes, they fit you length wise but are just too narrow. So the size that you would typically wear no longer works because of the narrowness, and thus you need to “size up.” A certain size might be right for you in general, but wrong for you with a specific shoe shape. That’s also why I suggested adding inserts, because if you’re having to size up in order to have enough width, the length may then be too long, so adding inserts helps to counteract that while leaving you the desired added width.

    • @ringwe
      @ringwe Před rokem +2

      @@katie-allen That's a problem certain brands try to solve by offering wide options for the same model, without the need to upsize. The problem with getting a larger size to accomodate the toes is that you lose support in the back and that brings a whole load of problems. Sadly the truth is that if a shoe isn't comfortable in the standard size it means it was designed rather poorly and that's unfair because it means those with a small budget will need to compromise comfort for fashion. Mind you I don't forget that a rule of thumb is to always look at the brand's size chart if possible. But overall, at least in the European market there seems to be an agreement on the length of the foot corresponging to a size.

    Hows this for an easy fix so you're never out of fashion: Don't follow fashion trends in the first place. Wear what you like and what fits you. If you're never in fashion you can't be out of fashion. Style and fashion are not the same thing. You can be 10000% unfashionable and still look stylish and immaculately put together. Just learn what looks good on you, get your stuff tailored if possible, or better yet learn to sew so you have full control over fabric, style and fitting. Think like people did in the past when buying new clothes was a luxury: THINK before buying, choose items wisely, spend more money on higher quality items, buy 1/4 of the amount of them preferably in natural fibres because they hang better and feel nicer. look after them properly - they'll last longer, look better and serve you well. Curate your wardrobe so everything goes with everything else. Problem solved, less throwing crap out because for some unfathomable reason you let other people dictate what you should wear and feel like you need to keep up with the joneses. Less damage to the environment.

      I agree. Honestly, I'm starting to find these videos a little exhausting. It's almost like this list is "what's out of style for Instagram posts" and not regular people.

    • @Lucinda_Jackson
      @Lucinda_Jackson Před rokem +3

      I’m not sure that’s true. It’s surprising how many people are consistently a few years behind what the trends are and always playing catch up. It’s as if they see it enough on others and in movies (which are usually not released for a year to year and a half after shooting) that they finally feel comfortable and sure buying the style. Then the next year, it’s pretty much out of style. But the clothes feel new to them still and they aren’t going to replace them, certainly not with new, untested styles, so the process starts again.
      Also, some people get stuck in a rut wearing things that were popular when they were in college or even in high school. They remember them fondly and the memories make them feel youthful even though the styles don’t make them LOOK youthful. So you see a whole lot of people of a certain age walking around with “the infinity scarf look” or the “waterfall sweater and long necklace look”.
      And then there are the things that seem to hang on forever now - like leggings and skinny jeans - because people just won’t give them up for a combo of these reasons plus comfort. They’ve become uniforms. BTW, most of us still have leggings and skinny jeans - I do, too, but I don’t wear them when I’m going out. Heck, I still even have some of the super stretchy PATTERNED leggings that I wear hanging around my house! They’re as comfy as staying in jammies (which I also occasionally do) but I get more done because I don’t feel as lazy! 😂

      @@stephanieofili9069 Me too! That's a ridiculous thing to say! 🙄 But Shea says a lot of ridiculous things when she gives her opinion on what everyone else should be wearing in these videos. It's nothing more than her telling everyone what she prefers and what she likes. She's not basing these recommendations on any real fashion knowledge or expertise. Wear what you like and what makes you feel good and don't worry about what Shea or anyone else thinks! 🥰💛💖

    Ya know, when you're small and everything looks very good on you, it's hard for you to judge what looks good on big girls! We need V Neck to elongate our chubby necks. That's also what long necklaces do! Leopard shoes are cute.

    Boy, I’m glad I’m at the age I can care less about what’s “in” or “out” (not because it doesn’t matter to me how I look but rather because my opinion about what [not] to wear is the only thing that matters for me choosing my wardrobe and feeling good wearing it). It must be exhausting constantly tracking what’s trending and trying to follow. And extremely wasteful. What am I doing in this video? I have no idea! Got curious when CZcams suggested it. I want to mention though that it’s a quality content for those who’s interested in this topic.

  • @ElizabethMyersglobetrekker

    V-neck t-shirts are a must for those of us with broad, squared off shoulder and larger chests. We can’t wear a neckline that goes all the way up. It makes us look much heavier/bigger than we really are. We need to break it up by revealing a little skin in the neckline.

      Franca, fellow apple here (+ short). Bulky cardigans are not for us. A belted low rise does not serve the same purpose as a pendant. The former makes us look wide, the latter elongates. V necks work wonders. Cardigans that flare are good no matter what's in style. I am not letting go of my waterfall cardigan! I know it's bad form to advertize CZcams channels in a comment on a CZcams video, but there are lots out there with very good advice for different body shapes. I have found a lot of really good tips that way. I watch this channel for other reasons.

I used to watch a CZcamsr who would make her own cloths, but never anything someone over a size 1 or 2 could wear. So I stopped watching her. Do you know of any good ones I can follow?

I knew it wouldn't look good once my belly was gone and it's from lululemon so I am sad to see it just sitting there now hahaha luckily Lululemon has such a good resale rate that I'll probably get what I paid for it since it's no longer available😅

    This was a fun video (especially because it's presented in a way that won't "shame" anyone who still likes to wear the outdated styles). I'm 52 and thankful that I've never really been one to dive too deeply into trends. I have a 5'2" medium frame and I stick to what looks nice on my shape. I definitely need to stick to V-necks because they elongate me, and I love my riding boots..but also agree that we need to change the way in which we wear the classics. Updating the look with the times is a good thing. Have a great day, all.

    Yep, v-neck t-shirts are a must for many of us. A scoop neck could work as a sub, but they show so much more skin, which is super pale in fall, and often slips past a bra strap. Crew necks are a no over 50. Maybe even 40. V-neck for the win. You can keep all the rest - never liked them the first go around haha
