  • October 4, 2016 - Investigating O.J. Simpson: The Case for DNA was the 14th installment in the National Law Enforcement Museum’s Witness to History panel discussion series generously funded by Target®.
    The trial of O.J. Simpson for the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ronald Goldman, at her home in suburban Los Angeles riveted audiences across the world. The debate into his innocence or guilt gripped the twenty-four hour news cycle. In the middle of all of this were LAPD Detectives Tom Lange and Phil Vannatter trying to seek justice for the families of two victims.

    Lange really liked the left hand injury evidence he always mentions it.....but unfortunately there were 8 witnesses including the pilot of the plane who came out to get an autograph from OJ during the flight(youtube has the video of his testimony) 2 SkyCap, limo driver, Howard Bingham(Alis photographer) , and 4 witnessed in First Class all who were on the plane and stated OJs hands were not cut. So when Lange states the left hand glove at the scene and blood coming from the left side it clearly means he can prove it was OJ ,but those witnesses who saw him 40-45 minutes after the murder stating his hands were not cut messes his theory up. He really believed OJ did it but unfortunately his theory wasnt backed up by witness testimony.

      This was also backed up by Chigaco PD. They found blood and a broken drinking glass in his hotel room. Lange was trying to set traps for OJ in that interview. He was referring to the small knicks around his nails...for which he did not know how he got them...not the larger cut. Lange is full of shit but what do you expect lang to say when they had zero evidence except the glove.

    • @mitchcumstein142
      @mitchcumstein142 Před 5 lety +19

      Here is why I believe that Simpson had the cuts on his hand before going to Chicago. 1) He told Michael Baden, his defense appointed physician, that he cut his hand before leaving to Chicago and it bled. 2) He told the detectives the very next day after the murder that his hand was cut and he "put something on it" before his trip, indicating it was bleeding. 3) His blood was found at the murder scene next to Nicole's dead body...and that was collected BEFORE Simpson had given his blood to the police. So why do I believe these facts and not the eyewitnesses? Because they weren't looking for cuts on his hands in the first place while at the airport; they had no idea what had happened. How many times would you look at somebody's hands and remember if they had a band-aid on it? Especially if the primary cut was on his left hand (OJ is right-handed).

    • @migi5659
      @migi5659 Před 5 lety +4

      mitch cumstein I understand your point but to say that EVERYONE he encountered at LAX didn't notice a cut on his hand is a big stretch. Also note Detective Lange himself (seen in this video)called the Chicago hotel and they verified the OJ requesting a bandage for his hand and broken glass in his room..Detective Lange said this himself. OJ signed multiple autographs while at the airport so his hands were visible. The passenger who sat next to him testified to looking for championship rings which would be on his hands and he said he saw NO cuts... The cut appearing after him hearing the news of the murder was also backed up by witness testimony by the Hertz employee who picked OJ up and took him to the airport. So in order for the cut to have happened prior to the murders means everyone was lying or overlooked the cut.

      @@migi5659 "So in order for the cut to have happened prior to the murders means everyone was lying or overlooked the cut." Yes, and in order to believe the cut happened after, that would mean that OJ himself was either completely mistaken about his own hand wound or lied twice (for what reason I'm not sure). Plus it would mean that the Bundy walkway drops were somebody else's blood, and then once in the lab, were secretly replaced by OJ's blood without the original assailants blood ever being typed. So it's either that, or people didn't see something they weren't looking for in the first place. I guess you know where I stand. :)

I feel like there is one instance in the case where the police work was crappy. So you have this murder, you had found the glove at simpson's. IN the early morning they at some point knew simpson got on a plane and went to chicago. Granted at that point the following morning they didn't think simpson was a suspect or that the blood they found was going to be a match. BUt seems to me that within the next couple days when they started finding blood all over the driveway and his bedroom, why didn't they send officers to the airport to where and about simpson was and and ask about trash pickups etc. Even if the trash had been picked up, within a few days they probably could have traced it to the trash pit. Because there was a small window in which simpson could have gotten rid of the bloody clothes. I feel like they should have tried harder to recover that evidence.

      Interesting point. And I think correct - the jurors did not like the prosecutors because unfortunately, many of them were steeped in their own prejudices, not only against the justice system but also law enforcement, and it's ugly but I don't think some were heartbroken to see that a white woman was killed because some of them saw her as a homewrecker and they laid the blame at her feet for Simpson's philandering, even when it was clearly something he engaged in. She was the white woman who broke up the black family. (their thoughts, not mine). Think of the Emmett Till case. The men that killed him were not convicted - also a travesty. But note how when people talk about that case they tend to attack the woman who said he whistled at her and then later retracted, instead of aiming full on at his actual murderers. There is a lot of misogyny in human beings that is very ugly. The jurors also did not understand DNA, in part because it was relatively new then but also because they were not educated or sophisticated enough to understand it, but also because I don't think they WANTED to understand it. No matter why the jury acquitted him, whether it was payback for Rodney King, etc etc., ,it will always be a terrible injustice to those victims and families. I've never seen so much scientific evidence in a trial before, ever. That's what makes it so numbingly stupid that he wasn't convicted. At least the life he leads now is one where he is ostracized from his former celebrity life. No one believes in his innocence.

Now here this woman was, in a trial where her sister was slaughtered, basically, on the stand talking about how she was abused, and what I heard was that they felt she was fake because she was CRYING. It was an old wound that must have opened up from playing golf. Never heard of a golfer getting a deep cut on the outside of the finger while playing golf.

They were setting traps for him and he was trying to be as helpful as possible. The larger cut occurred in Chicago. This was backed up by the fact they found broken glass and blood in his Chicago hotel room.
      2. All OJ blood was found days, weeks and months later. No OJ blood was found before he gave the sample on June 13, 1994. They claimed to see a speck of blood on the bronco door handle. This was used to get the search warrant, which they lied to get. Vannater also broke chain of custody and was in possession of all the principals blood for at least 3 hours. Incidentally, 1.5ccs of OJ blood came up missing when the vial was returned. (about 30 drops).

      The only time I've ever contemplated OJ's innocence was cause of this fact. Goldmans defensive wounds are undeniable when they talk about "fighting for his life". But I have plenty of anecdotal evidence to suggest punching someone can hurt your hand more than it does someone's face or body. Other than that he's guilty for mine 100%, its overwhelming.

I guarantee there are many more people that at least try to hide the evidence in cases like these, than to not try it. Yeah some dont think out certain details, but to just leave bloody clothes and whatnot sitting in your house is something im not buying. And if ya look at the evidence, its clear as day blood/dna was planted(even on the glove) so if you dont think they would plant the socks/gloves you are super naive. Yeah, "its obvious the evidence was planted"? Who did the planting, jackass? And what did they plant, moron? And what punishment did they get, dickhead? Death penalty or life in prison? You think the FBI would let something like that go? How DARE you make these outrageous, baseless, slanderous accusations. Cochran doing it was bad enough but at least his excuse was that he was being paid to defend a client. Whats your excuse? Racism? Hatred for whites? I bet if OJ and Cochran were white and Nicole, Ron, Vannatter and Fuhrman were black and Fuhrman had a history of saying "white motherfuckers", you wouldn't believe a single bit of the conspiracy bullshit.
