  • With introduction of Ikon pass, Solitude Mountain has been getting busier and busier. On weekends, it can get really crowded. Even with the crowds, if you know how ski patrols are opening the mountain on a powder day, and plan accordingly, you can beat the crowd and have fresh snow all day. We've used this strategy this winter in two powder day Saturday and had fresh track all day. Sharing this so that you can enjoy more on a Powder day at Solitude ski resort! Enjoy!

Great hill assessment guys! I worked there for more than a decade and remember these wonderful runs. Bottomless Milk Run with so much snow you submarine on every turn, unforgettable and priceless.

Fantastic video, thank you. I decided to ski ever run at Solitude and I would mark every run off with a highlighter when I did them. It took me about 6 days to ski every single run. I thought I knew about most areas, but these guys have certainly done their research. I can't imagine anything better than a dad skiing with his young son. I love how the little guy floats on the snow and I wish I was that light. Once there was a big storm on a Sunday and when I went up on Wednesday, I was still getting fresh tracks on the south side of Honeycomb. It was well worth the long traverse. Every resort is its own little world, as long as you stay off the main runs. Fantastic place to ski.

Yes, it takes 3 Lifts back to top of Honeycomb BUT it's a pretty cool run from HONEYCOMB RETURN lift all the way across to APEX or SUNRISE lifts.

Waffles are the best after riding solitude all day!

On SUNRISE lift, don't forget ROLLER COASTER trail. Mogul heaven right under the lift (Tip: bottom gets flat, turn into the trees to reach the groomed run before you hit the very bottom)

Great video, loved how well you explained it. Do you ever get lost? Do you have a gps or something? How many hours do you ski/day? Thx

Thanks! We don't normally get lost in ski resorts. In most places, things are well marked. However, in some ski resorts, things are not well marked in expert terrain, and you may get lost if you are not familiar with the mountain. In those cases, the tracking app on the phone can help. More importantly, it will be good to go with people who know the mountain to those expert terrain.
In terms of how many hours, we normally ski about full day if the condition is good. 9-12 in the morning, 1-4 in the afternoon. On powder day when legs get tired early, we may end at 3pm. Hope this helps!

what do you mean by accessing honeycomb from the side?

Drop into Honeycomb from the top of Powderhorn or the Return lift instead of going all the way to the top of Summit. Enjoy!

There are "Gates" at top of Powderhorn and Eagle Express lifts that give you access to Honeycomb (halfway down, and 3/4 down Honeycomb). Not always open though. I like Memorial chute/Black Forest off of Powderhorn.
