@@Grisak_ The "everything I'll ever have" is the interpretation in the official translation made by Viz. The actual Japanese line is closer to "So I will use everything." @@Regu269 He was definitely relying on instinct, rather that rigid rules, that's even why he's still alive. If he'd relied on rules he'd have just specifically created an ability that took everything in exchange for power, but since it was more of an instinct-based ability than a purposeful one, he was fortunate enough not to have to sacrifice his entire life for it. He just wanted everything he could get (his peak power), in exchange for anything and "anything" turned out to be just short of killing him instantly.

Nen is super complex and HxH does not lend itself easily to powerscaling (thank god), but it is stated that all the members of the Royal Guard were problems to be circumvented, not bruteforced through.

I think he was just in a very dark place and this time without Killua there to snap him out of his emotional and self destructive behavior. That's just how Gon acts, he didn't want to punish himself with Genthru to be willing to blow his arms off, and he still thought Kite was alive when he was pushing to fight Pitou and would have potentially sacrificed himself and Kite (as far as he knew at least) if Killua wasn't there to remind him what their priorities were.
To me this is just what his depression looks like, he wanted to snap back in the tower but the situation didn't allow for it. This time there's no Killua to set him right, there's no hope for Kite being recovered to worry about, there's no Komugi to confuse his morality, there's just him and the monster who killed Kite. So now he can just let his darkest emotions take hold.

Death always plays weird with Nen. Nen is deeply tied to the resolve and strength of will of the user. If someone uses a Nen power, then dies in a way that is in any shape or form linked to the resolve they had in mind when using the power, there is a very good chance of the power doing the same thing Gon did in this episode: "oh, this is the last time we'll ever use Nen, so let's put EVERYTHING into it."
Even if the circumstances of your death aren't 100% related to when you used the Nen power, if you just think of it or if it's a deep grudge you're holding, it can do that. For instance, the Phantom Troupe is terrified of moving against Kurapika until Chrollo gets the blade removed from his heart, because nobody knows what kind of horrific thing Kurapika's Nen would do to Chrollo if he died bearing such a deep grudge against the Troupe.
Pitou used her Nen on herself, thinking she had to protect the King. Then she literally died in the first attack of the fight. Her resolve to keep Gon away from the King made it so her body kept being puppeteered by Terepischora after she died, all for the purpose of trying to kill Gon and, if all else failed, at least keep him occupied until his suicidal deal went fully through.

Adult Gon isn't as strong as the King, nor is it what Pitou implied. They just said that his willpower could reach the King, not technically defeat him

  • @pikmints
    @pikmints Před 2 měsíci +1

I feel like part of the reason Pitou was so willing to be honest with Gon is out of respect for Meruem, Gon's compliance allowing the king's will to be enacted, Gon allowed the most precious person to the king to live. At the same time, she couldn't return the favor to Gon, instead delivering the bad news to Gon that she just prevented the king from having to receive.

I feel this is the best directed episode in anime history. The sound of Gons footsteps, the terror in his and Kiluas voice, the use of silence, and that quiet end to the outro music i dont think can ever be topped. I've seen a dozen or so reactions to these episodes, and what sends it home is that you couldnt react at all, and really nobody else did either. That silent awe is something that even though i have seen it before, through a channel like yours its something we can actually share together. I really appreciate you giving us the chance to share it with you, and you were waiting for the Gon snap for so long, your own actual reaction series got its payoff in a way i doubt you saw coming. That is Hunter x Hunter.

I thought it was an interesting way to finish things up with Pitou, after validating that she hadn't been wrong to be afraid of Gon, that he is a threat. She goes so far as to turn her own body, even in death into a puppet to try and kill him to protect the king. In some way, mirroring what she did to Kite in the first place.
I think it was interesting that Pitou was one of the only Ants to recognize the threats of Humans from the get go, and not from messing about and finding out.
As for what Gon did, not easier to see the next time around. The baby, he didn't deserve so much trauma. Killua, up to you buddy, up to you.

One of the greatest moments, and also one of the saddest. We as an audience knew (or at least should know) Kite was dead, but having to come to that realization for Gon, it's rough.

  • @Vernnell

Is the first I see soneone wanted to see Gon snap, the thing about that is there is consequences for doing so, been in real life or fiction.
Is never a good thing to snap, not even for the sake of encouraging impact or epicness in a scene.
Gon not just sacrifice himself, but also risk everything, his family and friends will lose him, his goal is completely gone, he act recklessly without thinking of it and when is done there is just sorrow for the people who cared about him.
Killua got all the weight because of it, he made his best friend watch him die, that's for me the most sad part of the episode.
Is truly a piece of art.

This form of Gon is the representation of his biggest flaw. His simple mindedness. Gon was so stricken by grief, he completely forgot there are others around him to live for like Killua or Mito. And because the only thing on his mind is Kite he thought he pretty much lost everything which makes him pretty much suicidal. Had Gon just thought a little harder that that's far from the case, he could've avoided these results. But at the very least he saved everyone else from Pitou.

one thing I hate about the wording chosen for this episode is that when Pitou says "he's willing to never use nen again", it's the same as saying "he's willing to die for this", cause they've mentioned before (I think) that if you use up all of your nen, you die, and by saying "he's prepared to never use nen again" lessens the impact of his choice, he basically traded his life for that form, not just his nen, it'd have so much more impact if it was just worded that way
