- Giving the CX bike a bit of what she's made for.
That hill felt and looked bigger in real life...
Thank you so much for watching, enjoy and stay safe cycling.
(I am an ambassador for some companies who give me free kit - Le Col, SunGod + Styrkr which you will see in my videos)
Treacherous beauty. I think gravel
May be a safer option than the roads when icy. Another great video.
I live in Florida and complain about my 60 degree rides. Hammer it girl!
I think 35 miles is my limit generally in any weather so crash helmet off to you! I tend to use flat pedals in these conditions. I lived in Finland so really only used winter bicycle tyres over there but had to carry a survival blanket with me on a few occasions because of the temp and the remoteness. What I will say about the UK is that it is very damp and the cold really gets into your bones...as they say. Dry cold can be a bit more forgiving even at lower temperatures.
Ohh that sounds very cold!!
Looks bloody freezing lol. Fair play to you, I hate winter biking
Saw an absolutely mad Gravel route on someone elses YT channel called 'The Pictish Way' Looks amazing -got your name all over it Amy!
Ohh I’ll look it up thanks!
For a new gravel rider you did well. 65 miles in cold conditions and some challenging downhills.
Amy, I've been ebike commuting for bit over a year now. Not a fan of heat and humidity. Heading into my second fall season, Id prefer a dry cold day. With that said, that downhill ice clip was stressing. My commutes are short but your videos have inspired me to start training and planning for some longer rides with cafe stops. Love your videos. Stay safe
Ahh so glad to hear this, enjoy your rides and stay safe too :)
You did a gravel ride and then ended without a curry? What bizarre alternate reality have I wandered into? 😉 Fantastic video as always. Off road definitely takes some getting used to, but once you get the hang, its a great time. Possible mountain biking in the future? Thanks for bringing us along. Stay awesome.
Haha such a shocker! I’m not sure mountain biking is for me just yet, considering the hill I went down on this ride haha! But maybe one day!
The downhill section is far better in summer trust me. Great video Amy
Love your videos Amy: Funny, honest, entertaining, keep it going, lot's more please!
Thank you so much!
Let me tell ya, those noises when you went over the bumpy bits had me in stitches. Great vid 👊🏼
Haha! I was pretty scared 😂
Off road riding was my first live and a gravel bike is the best bike for it. Great video as always 👊🏻
Gravel bikes are mediocre off road and mediocre on road get a mountain bike
now this is content, love it
Thank you!
Nice one... 👍
Well done video! Thanks for telling me about your channel. Always nice to see views and insight from a different part of the world.
Thank you for watching! :D
Hi Amy - I really enjoyed watching this video - though a bit scary in places. 65 miles in those conditions . . . Respect to you 👍.
Thank you! I was scared too!
First gravel bike 200km for me today, not much off-road though, I wanted to get through feel of dragging 45mm tyres on the road all day. Next month, same distance but slowly introduce more and more off-road into the mix.
Like everything in life, confidence grows when you repeat it more. Best part I find is the exploration, it's like a whole new secret network of places you can ride your bike, and a few fair few you'll strike off the list and tell youself "I am never going that way again!"
Love this! 🙌🙌
Such great advice. I love that gravel routes can be great alternatives when you can’t do roads during the winter.
For your 2nd gravel you did so well!! 🎉
@@jennycycles thank you so much 🫶
Great video
Thank you!
First time on the gravel is scary. I did some in Dumfries & Galloway. But once you get your confidence, it's great fun! Love your vids.
Thank you!! That sounds fun!
If gravel riding is something you will be getting in to. I'd do a day at a trail center, hire a hardtail xc mtb and do some blue trails. It will help massively with confidence and also some skills might transfer across to the road bike. Good ride in the conditions 💪
Thank you that sounds like a great idea!
Awesome that cold
Nice ride , I prefer rail trails then single track but they're both exciting to be honest, like yourself im a roadie at heart too! I'd love to see you cook up your favorite curry dish, I love a spicy chicken curry but haven't made it in awhile, enjoy!
I ride all the way down to about -5C. I’d suggest pulling your neck warmer up, over your mouth and nose. That way your breath keeps you warm. 🐻☺️
You know what is amazing about gravel rides though? No cars 😉and the views of course. goodluck on the speedy recovery! Loving the videos. Sunday roast > curry and I have no issues throwing elbows if you disagree, It does beg the question how yorkshires compilment a curry though
It’s shite
Great video! Looks cold. New follower here. Crow✌️
Thank you so much for following along!
Thought I recognised the trails and that descent (as well as Newstead Abbey confirmed it), there fairly local to me though I can't say I've done them on a 32mm tyre 🥜🥜🥜🥜🤪
Ahh nice!
Awesome ride! I think you'd enjoy it even more if it wasn't so cold and icy....that makes it far worse.
Great attitude to crack on anyway, just get it done!! 🙂
Yes I think I would too 😅
I used to do cyclocross, and the drop-offs that I used to handle... well I can't tell ya. Let's say that I must have developed some sense of self-preservation somewhere along the way. As my first objective is to regain fitness, I think I'd get the turbo trainer out in such icy conditions. I can tell you that a broken collar bone (or the same one twice) is not fun, especially 3 weeks prior to a trip to Majorca. The bone was just about knitting, so I had to miss out on some rides, but I made it. Still kicking myself that I miss out on doing Sa Calobra that year.
Welcome to the dark side.
As an Australian, I have absolutely no comprehension how you Pom's ride in that weather. We all bitch and moan when it gets below 10C FFS.
I agree, as a Sydneysider, though, I’m sure somewhere in Australia it gets that cold and icy.
@@NeilLavittI know people who ride all year round in Armidale, and that is apparently miserable.
I'm in Brisbane, and the worst it got last year was 4C for a few weeks in the mornings.
That was pretty unpleasant.
Frozen 3.0…..let it go!
Love how you keep things real Amy by using miles instead of kilometres. 65 miles on gravel is like 95 miles on tarmac. Not to mention the ice as well. Fantastic effort 👏
Thank you! I’ve always liked miles 😂
Was that hill from American farm
Downhill gravel is definitely not as easy or breezy as downhill road riding, and the mud and ice just add to the excitement/fear.
-1°c???? You're a tough woman 😂👍
🌺🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌷🌷🌷🌷🌹🌹
65 in sub zero equals a ton in the Sun.. :).
Ahhhhhhh
Looks a good route. Any chance of a GPX?
My Strava link is in my profile now just had to make sure I had all the right privacy settings on so took a while :)
I've never really heard of ice tyres. Is their anyway difference from normal off road tyres.
Yes ice tyres have metal spikes in them to stop you slipping on ice, they’re very heavy and noisy so I only wear them when I have to!
@@amy.cycling.adventures I've always used my normal tyres. I use the same ones in the summer and winter lol.
What tyre width are you running -- that helps quite a bit.
They were 32s!
@@amy.cycling.adventures Things will go better on those icy downhills w/ 38 or 40s. contingent on what your bike takes, of course.
You would have way more fun on a hardtail 29ner 🤙🤙and not get shaken to bits
I was gonna give the the video a 10/10 but I'm afraid I'm docking you 2 points for the lack of curry 😂
😂😂
Where do you get your shades from? 👀
They’re SunGod I’m an ambassador for them so I’m grateful that I get them gifted! But they are really good :D
@@amy.cycling.adventures really good and really expensive!😅 Are there any cheaper versions from Sungod?
@@amy.cycling.adventures how can I become an ambassador?👀
Looked familiar.. Ampleforth?
We were in Nottinghamshire ☺️
@@amy.cycling.adventures oh only about 85 miles out lol ....oops
Can you share the route please?
My Strava link is now on my profile page, don’t be too alarmed by my latest ride!
get yourself a mountain bike and learn to be more confident on the downhills!
If you’re going off road get a mountain bike gravel is just an American buzz word to sell bikes
