@@mikematei They've become pretty corporate and soulless these days. Formulaic lazy boring directs, with the same exact beats. The passing of Iwata, and Reggie jumping ship didn't help at all either. But really, I miss the late 80's & 90's Nintendo the most. Actually, I miss the late 80's and early 90's period. Vanilla ice was right, the 90's was the last greatest decade before computers ruined the world. lol
Also, the early to mid 90's trumped the late 90's 10 fold. There's no comparison. 90 & 91 still had the tail end of the 80's oozing into them, amazing times to be alive.
Now we're living in a world with Cell phone zombie broccoli headed teenagers and tatood splattered try hards with dirty viking beards. I miss the neon colours and saved by the bell wardrobes lol

Anyway, I just liked that NOT ONE TOAD was present in the Mario & Luigi Brothership video. In Dream Team and Paper Jam, there were friggin' generic-looking Toads EVERYWHERE! The Mario RPGs are supposed to have unique characters or traditional characters with unique designs.

I'm glad someone here understood what I was complaining about. That Zelda game might be fine. My issue is that the narrator of the direct sounds like he is talking to a 2 year old. And the old games like Zelda, Zelda 2, LTTP and Ocarina didn't give the impression that the franchise was for a toddler. But it seems like that is very much the direction they are going these days. The narrator voice was the same shit on the Mario Wonder trailer. The company didn't use to do this. Go look at old Nintendo commercials and see the vibe those had. Now it is like they are talking down to the consumer.

Congratulations for being indoctrinated into games that were designed to waste the time and money of young children: your coins (arcade) and time (limited lives/continues to artificially lengthen games) I'm only a few years younger, so I get it I somewhat get it, but that you find anything about Zelda, Zelda 2, or LTTP to be anything other than games squarely designed for young children is hilarious. I think your imagination was getting ahead of you, or maybe the "edgy" 80's/90's marketing got in your head or something somewhere along the way. I grew up playing Bubble Bobble, I'm not about to go saying Taito has infantilized a game that explicitly already was. .

I played the original trilogy that's already available on Switch and the sprites are atrocious. Additionally, it seems like they're missing some features and animations from later updates to those games.
Yeah, I’ve only played 1 and 11, starting with 11 then going back and playing 1. Loved both and can’t wait for the remakes.
@@TheZaiusimo, for now the SNES versions are definitely the definitive ways to play the original trilogy. They actually have animation for all the monsters and the music for III is top tier. The switch ports are so bad I've actually told people not to buy those and wait for the HD2D remake comes out

People these days really defend remasters and remakes. Remasters are the same exact game and most remakes change the original’s intention so much but nobody looks to deeply into things and only like it because the graphics are shiny
I saw a guy do a comparison of the wii version of Donkey Kong Returns compared to the hd remake. And it seems like a big downgrade. They removed and changed lots of effects. Like taking out sunlight shining between trees and a lot of other things.

@@mikematei they "added" the extra stages of the 3DS version. But what they realy did was just porting the 3DS game, thats why its ugly. Its like the Grand Thef Auto Trilogy. They ported the phone version of the game. And used an AI upscaler. It was a disaster.

Games that were available in the past. Then delisted. And now people get to buy them again. Nintendo's favorite thing to do. Sell you a game. Take it away. Then resell it to you. And sometimes in a lesser form. Like this Donkey Kong HD "remaster"
@@mikematei If I recall, the MvC games have been extremely priced up the ass and very scarce for physical versions of the game. It used to be on the PS store and Xbox store but its been taken off the store for many years now. This makes it readily available and has dedicated online and rollback net code.

In Legendary Axe 2, the buttplug is the fastest and longest range but weakest, the sword is middle of the road with good range and damage, the axe has shortest range but destroys things really quick. The Axe devastates bosses at level 5

More Legendary than the axe is the difficulty. PC Engine has amazing shmups(and bomberman games). When it comes to platformers and adventures games, they start out fun but when things get tough the crappy controls and bad hit detection become more apparent and then they are not so fun. Very similar to the Master System in that regard.
I love playing Legendary Axe 1&2, but yeah, Nintendo Direct. I'm only excited for Mario & Luigi, Zelda and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. That's it.
The Mario and Luigi game looks poor graphically to me. I personally just don't like that art style. Maybe that Zelda game will be okay, but I hate how they have the narrator talk in a baby voice over the footage. It makes me not want to play it. Metroid Prime 4 I will play someday.
@@mikematei Alright, I did went back replayed all of the Mario & Luigi series and all of those games have beautiful graphics on the handhelds but yeah this art style made into 3D, that makes me question too? The Zelda game could be pretty good but yeah that narrator in the trailer made it worse. And Metroid Prime 4 I have already beaten the previous games except Metroid Prime: Remastered.

It might be a good game. What I was mad about was how the narrator was making it sound like a game for babies. And that's not the direction I want the Zelda franchise going in. I want it to be more like Dark Souls or Diablo. Back when I would play Zelda as a kid, I thought it was this badass world. Now it's embarrassing. When can we have one that looks like Elden Ring or something.
@@mikematei Darker grittier Zelda would be amazing, but adult & grit don't go with Nintendo... Unless you're in one of their love hotels. Sadly, they'll probably never make a more mature Zelda & I've accepted that. Twilight Princess & MM are still the grittiest of them, which is why they're still my favorite 3D Zelda's.

That's been my biggest critique so far of people praising this game as being fresh and original (and even the people complaining it's woke)..... it's basically just a half-heart-ed re-imagining of that crappy _Wand of Gamelon_ game. When the guy in the video said that the new Zelda was basically a new and innovative entry, I almost laughed.

This was a really good direct . its ok to have a different opinion . i saw alot of things i think are nice. I am super excited for the Dragon quest 1 2 3 remakes. The new rpg Fantasian from the creator of final fantasy. Metroid prime 4. Mario + Luigi brothership. Donkey kong country hd . phantom brave . Zelda . romancing saga 2 remake .
Fantasian is actually not that new. It's been out for a bunch of years now, but it's finally coming out for a platform that is not Apple. It's the one thing that I was very happy to see is coming to other platforms! 🙂

Yeah. Another guy was trying to argue with me that Zelda was never adult. And sure, it was never exactly Dante’s Inferno or something. But games like Zelda 2 and Twilight Princess has a more adult vibe.
Personally there only were 3 things that were of any interest for me:
-the very first game, Mario & Luigi Brothership. I really like these games usually, not 100% sure about this one tho but it looks alright.
-the new Zelda game: I'm probably not even gonna bother with this one, but I'll say it's an interesting idea at least, especially because you play as Zelda and not Link. But it's not for me tho. Fuck off with this crafting shit or whatever, I just wanna do dungeons and fight enemies
-Metroid Prime 4: This is the only thing I ACTUALLY am really interested in. One of the only reasons why I even bought the Nintendo Switch was because of Metroid Prime 4, and maybe Mario Odyssey. I'm so glad we finally get to see some actual footage, even if it's a few years too late and it's probably not even gonna come out for the Switch, but whatever its successor is. Metroid in general is probably my favourite game series ever.
Pretty much just Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Metroid Prime 4 for me. I am, however, pleased Marvel Vs. Capcom games are being made available to and introduced to new people.

Holy crap, I havent seen/heard that Mousercise record since 1985 when I was a young kid. I used to play it all the time back then, and even tried to do the weird dance moves from the booklet that came with it . I had totally forgotten about it until you showed it off. It was like it unlocked hidden memories, and they all came flooding back. Wow, it was like I was remembering a past life. Thanks for that. :)

I don't get why people are mad about a Wii remaster. I hated the wii and refused to buy it despite the handful of good Nintendo games. And now with the remaster i can play this game finally.

@@alfasilverblade So what, theres a lot of 3DS remasters on Switch. Luigis Mansion 2 is going to be another one. The 3DS had a great library and i think it's a good idea to port the good games over cause i don't wanna use a handheld device anymore.
The original Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga is a damn good handheld game, the new game looks interesting I don't mind the graphics that much. Metroid Prime is good but I'm more of a DKC fan, would be nice if Retro Studios made a new DKC returns after Metroid Prime 4.
The Mario & Luigi game seems oddly similar to Wind Waker on a basic level. Cartoonish art style, seafaring adventures, island hopping.
Nintendo’s ability to rehash old products, strip them down, repackage, resell and charge full price for them is nothing short of masterful. In their defense, greed has pretty much always been their policy. I remember them strong-arming retailers over the price of the NES.
Idk, I enjoyed the direct more than I thought I would, it was a nice treat as JRPG fan to see things like a new Mario And Luigi, Dragon Quest 3, Fantasian, and Romancing SaGa 2. I was also happy for Metroid Prime 4 and the new Mario Party. There is always going to be third party shovelware, but that isn't Nintendo's fault anyways, the only criticism I had was the DKC Returns port instead of a sequel, and I didn't care much for the Zelda game as I would have just preferred a more traditional game instead.
I think its mostly just a generational thing on your part, you don't seem really interested in anything after the fourth generation, which is fine, but its a bit unfair to say it was nothing but crap while criticizing Nintendo for not being like Sony or Microsoft, despite them having a completely different demographic. I didn't watch a second of the Xbox or Sony event, but I could understand why people who did would be excited for the new Doom or Gears Of War.

I think it's natural for adults to desire more mature versions of their childhood favorites. I think we all have a fondness for Transformers The Movie because the TV show was quite silly, and the movie gave us a more adult tone with more death and violence and heavy metal music. I think we all thought that was cool, we were happy the movie was more mature, more serious. In the same vein I can understand wishing for a Zelda franchise that evolved into a more mature fantasy adventure game. However I think a reason for Zelda's enduring allure is how innocent and approachable it is. Worlds in Zelda are always fun, vibrant, and largely happy, not grimdark. I think the new Princess Zelda game is still staying true to the roots of the franchise. In Zelda 1 you use the raft to cross the water, you use the ladder to cross gaps, etc. In the Princess Zelda game you use stools/beds/potted plants to reach new locations. I see it as the same kind of thing. I think Zelda has always been, and always should be, more about the adventure than the combat. I mean, "Where the heck do I go and how do I get there?" was like 70% of Zelda 1. I think I'm actually looking forward to the Princess Zelda game quite a bit. I'm happy they're re-using the Links Awakening remake engine to do something new, and I think the adventure aspects could be a good time. I agree that it's probably going to be very easy though. But I don't mind a low difficulty in an adventure game. That said, I very much enjoyed you talking smack. I think you are the most cantankerous streamer on the internet, and I hope you never change.

I do hope you check out the Dragon Quest games, or Dragon Warrior for you older folks. If you like final fantasy, you'll like those.
I'd say the Nintendo Direct was the "best" showcase of the year, but only because the other showcases were so goddamn shit it's unreal. There are like 2 or 3 games that looked interesting in the Nintendo Direct, that's more than I can say for the Sony and Xbox ones...
What did you smoke? They were all bad, but the Xbox Showcase was the best they've had in years, while Sony's was atrocious, and this Direct was barely serviceable at best (mostly ports and remasters, and some anime games). I like NEW games these days, I'm no longer impressed by the same low effort stuff I was in my twenties and thirties. I wasn't crazy about any of them, but atleast the Xbox showcase had Doom Medievil and Indiana Jones. This is one of the poorer Nintendo Directs in a while, especially compared to the ones at the end of last year. There was literally not a single game in that direct that I was remotely interested in (I'll try Prime 4 if that ever actually releases), and the announcer sounded like a small town art teacher who was molesting a student behind the church! "okay boys and girls, time to get undressed and practice our body paints!". 🤣

There's a reason I put "best" in quotations here, this is still by no means a good showcase, but it beats out others purely because it was 40 minutes long, didn't have "Hollywood" bullshit like SGF did and it had a grand total of two games that looked interesting, much like Xbox.
Really the decisive thing here was that the Xbox showcase was longer, and so much of what they revealed is debatable if you can even call them games, devs trying to make movies because they weren't accepted in Hollywood.
@@mr.selfimprovement3241 What are you on about? The last direct had more remasters via Mario RPG, Mario Vs Donkey Kong, Paper Mario TTYD, and Luigi's Mansion 2. This one only had DKC Returns as its only remaster while a new Metroid, new Mario And Luigi, and a new Zelda were announced.
Also I don't see how Doom and Indiana Jones are new. The former is a sequel that looks like it plays similarly to the last two games, and is already a reboot of a 30+ year old franchise, and Indiana Jones is also another legacy franchise being revived in a AAA style that looks like a very mid first person knock off of Uncharted.
The direct was great for Nintendo fans and JRPG fans, but if you prefer AAA stuff, then the Xbox one is more for you.

When you are disappointed in games for a long time, that's what happens. Watching franchises you loved change course and just change their vibe completely is depressing.

They don't care about adult fans. Look at Skyward Sword, that's when it got childish and never got out of it. There's nothing spooky in it whatsoever, same with botw and totk. And the games always have to have some stupid gimmick in it these days, can't just be an awesome adventure

Why can’t we have a Zelda that’s has a similar tone to dark souls. The IP is in place for it and they keep blowing it. Would be an amazing game to fight helmasuar as link or Zelda in a From Software style game

But Dark souls is dark ALL the time, it gets boring. A place like the shadow temple in ocarina of time wouldn't stick out because that'd basically be the whole game in dark souls which is just bland, if an adventure has the exact same atmosphere the whole way through it doesn't feel like an adventure to me.
Zelda is supposed to be a lighthearted adventure game, not a dark nihilistic RPG

Personally (about the Nintendo Direct) I felt pretty underwhelmed...all the games that are upcoming are reusing models from older games and reusing engines from older games. Maybe it's presumptious, but I feel like since Iwatas passing the games are less about experimenting and innovating and more about saving money during development. They're going the Pokémkn route... something everyone has been complaining about for a good while now.

I'm a huge fan of Metroid so I'm very much looking forward to Prime 4. A couple of upcoming rpgs are promising, such as the (REMAKE) of DQIII and (REMASTER) of that Saga 2 thing. Having said that, the lack of creativity is very alarming in the current entertainment industry and I 100% agree current Zelda seems aimed mainly to kids. While you can argue "so was original Zelda", I think the actual truth is "it used to be for everybody" and kids weren't underestimated this much.
One more thing, for anyone mad at Mike: any reasonable person should be able to tell when a streamer isn't sponsored or trying to """"build a following"""". Mike isn't careful with words because he thinks he's talking to adults. One can disagree with him or not, but at least he's being sincere. I think some people take sincerity for granted and, these days, it should be appreciated since everything has become too corporate and politically correct.
P.S: A Metroid movie sounds like a fucking nightmare to me. They would 100% sanitize the hell out of it and they would get the casting wrong with some charisma vacuum actress.

@@mikematei I could understand that, personally I would have preferred a hand drawn animation look done in the style of Yoichi Kotabe's art, the guy who did the old concept art seen on the covers of Mario Bros 3 and Mario World.
They had to change the look after the last three New Super Mario Bros games started looking too similar.

Is he going to beat this game in this stream? We watch you fail and try and whem you eventually succeed any goal in the game then we also feel a greater achievement...
