All this is, in this "Apology, is a very weak attempt to keep what was left of his "Empire" together. From what I remember, it didn't work too well. Loads of people, that heard what he was doing here, got up, and walked out, never to return. Then, 3 years later, he got caught AGAIN!!! This time, though, he told everybody within earshot:"God told me to tell you, that it's flat-out none of your business"! I mean, he just got downright rude with his congregants...that is, those who were left over from the first time!
Back in 1988, I was at university when this scandal erupted. Rather than berating Swaggart, I took this as a wake up call. Galatians 6:1 warns us that when someone is caught in sin, we are to be gentle and watch that we don't fall into the same trap. As I shared the Gospel message with others, some had to bring up Swaggart's failure to which I quoted what Jesus Christ Himself stated: "Let anyone of you who is without sin cast the first stone." ~John 8:7. Yes, Jimmy Swaggart did wrong back then but what is God going to say about each of us on the day of judgement? Are we immoral and self-righteous or are we humble before Christ and ever watchful for the Devil's schemes? Do we, being void of compassion, kick those who have fallen or do we pick them up as is our duty (Zechariah 7:9)?
The problem with Swaggart is that, unlike Jim Bakker, he never publicly righted himself or his ministry after he was exposed. He defied church authority regarding his suspension and then repeated the same sin. That is why I don't take him seriously.

We were members of this church and school until this happened. My parents were on the board. I was 7 when it all happened, so I didn't really know what was going on at the time. The Assemblies of God administration wanted him to step down as pastor, go to counseling and whatnot until they deemed him fit to return. He pretty much told them that he asked God for forgiveness, felt as if he were forgiven, so why did he need to answer to the AoG leaders. They said to do it or leave. He left and became "independent" or "non-denominational". My family (and a bunch of others) left with the head youth paster, Glenn Berteau, and started Hosanna First Assembly.
He was suspended for two years and ordered to undergo counseling, but he refused to accept it, so the Assemblies of God revoked his ordination. He should’ve resigned from the start. After the scandal, his presence was going to overshadow the church and everything good they were trying to do.
i have followed brother swaggert all my life. yes he sinned. dont we all? dont condem anyone because they sin differently than you. he got on national tv and apologized to the world. he didnt have to. but i feel he was really sorry for his wrong doings. this man is trying, thats more than i can say for alot of people. i am thankful for his ministry. i feel the presence of the lord every time i get to watch his service. god bless all of you. thanks again brother swaggert and family!

Here’s the problem I have here. Not only did Mr.. Swaggart lead a flock of sheep in God’s name, he knew he had been caught and chose to say nothing until the person who caught him went public with it. Not only that, but he did the same thing three years later, and this time he said, “The Lord told that it’s flat none of your business.” Given all that we now know, I feel like Mr. Swaggart was never sorry he did what he did, he was sorry he got caught.

I'm going to say my opinion and I don't really care what anyone thinks to what I'm going to say. I see a man here that realizes his sin and is truly remorseful and repentant. Nobody should judge him because God is the ultimate judge. Any one of us can fall just like this man did. He realized what he had done and repented and I believe God restored him. I've been to his church at camp meeting a few times and he has a wonderful house of God. When I went, I felt God's presence really strong. I think Mr. Swaggart was very sincere when he repented and is why he was restored.
I think we are gonna get amazed in as much as we still have these videos on earth, God is will be looking at his servant with a lot of compassion and love, and the comment section will ask, did this man not do this and that and God will reply, in my books, it never happened. Having sat here reading all this, and commenting here and there, I see the futility in continuing any further....except to say....that when Jesus died on Calvary, His precious blood was ENOUGH to cover ALL our sins. He is a good, good Father, and He, like most parents, does not throw us away when we are flawed, or when we "mess up". I love Jesus so much, because He first loved me. And He is still working on me daily...if you know Him the way I do, oh my....grace and mercy would fill your heart, replacing harsh words toward someone who fell, with gratitude that God picked him up, turned him around, and his legacy is moving forward. The great Billy Graham said in an interview that he did not condemn Jimmy Swaggart. He said (in essence) that because we all have a sin nature we all can stumble and fall in our darkest moments of weakness. He even went so far as to say "If it happened to him it could happen to me." God bless Reverend Graham for living his faith and standing up for his friend and fellow pastor.

It's about not breaking the law. There are people (especially women) sitting in prison right now, for being busted in prostitution. Jimmy's actions (and others like him) worsen poverty, homelessness, disease, drugs, violence, and empower child sex rings. There is so much more to this than just one person's "sin". JSM has become nothing more itself, than a prostitute/propaganda arm of US politics and capitalism (all of which, are the antithesis of everything Christ taught). It is impossible to forgive the works of the antichrist, because such repentance can never be real. I ridiculed my mother for watching his show. I felt the same way you do. But something happened to me one evening I was staying with mom n dad and mom always watches jsm in the evenings. I didn't have a choice but to watch Because the couch was my bed for that day. Something happened to me while I was watching that broadcast. I began to weep uncontrollably and i felt this warm soothing sensation flow through my entire body. The truth is profound. Even when it comes from someone that you deem not fit to continue in the ministry. I for one am very thankful he chose not to listen to the nay sayers. I am completely delivered from depression. I haven't touched a cigarette since that day. God works in mysterious ways. It may not be the way we think He should work. Because we are a judgemental people. But I know that day my life was changed. And I am very thankful for JSM. I am truly sorry you feel the way you do. And I do pray you have a blessed life.

King David sinned greatly in the Bathsheba affair. He was a man after God's own heart. But he did confess his sin and God forgave him. He wrote Psalm 51 as a result of his confession. If God forgave the sins of King David, He forgives us of our sins as well. All we have to do is confess our sins to God and He will forgive them and remember them no more.

I saw Jimmy Swaggart in 1984 and I loved Him preaching the Gospel. Yes, Satan was very much after him, and at one point he got Jimmy and threw him into the dirt. But because it is written in 1John 1,9: "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." I beleive God saw Jimmy's repentance and forgave him. Praise be to God for His great Love.

All this is, in this "Apology, is a very weak attempt to keep what was left of his "Empire" together. From what I remember, it didn't work too well. Loads of people, that heard what he was doing here, got up, and walked out, never to return.
Then, 3 years later, he got caught AGAIN!!! This time, though, he told everybody within earshot:"God told me to tell you, that it's flat-out none of your business"! I mean, he just got downright rude with his congregants...that is, those who were left over from the first time!
Back in 1988, I was at university when this scandal erupted. Rather than berating Swaggart, I took this as a wake up call. Galatians 6:1 warns us that when someone is caught in sin, we are to be gentle and watch that we don't fall into the same trap. As I shared the Gospel message with others, some had to bring up Swaggart's failure to which I quoted what Jesus Christ Himself stated: "Let anyone of you who is without sin cast the first stone." ~John 8:7. Yes, Jimmy Swaggart did wrong back then but what is God going to say about each of us on the day of judgement? Are we immoral and self-righteous or are we humble before Christ and ever watchful for the Devil's schemes? Do we, being void of compassion, kick those who have fallen or do we pick them up as is our duty (Zechariah 7:9)?
The problem with Swaggart is that, unlike Jim Bakker, he never publicly righted himself or his ministry after he was exposed. He defied church authority regarding his suspension and then repeated the same sin. That is why I don't take him seriously.

We were members of this church and school until this happened. My parents were on the board. I was 7 when it all happened, so I didn't really know what was going on at the time. The Assemblies of God administration wanted him to step down as pastor, go to counseling and whatnot until they deemed him fit to return. He pretty much told them that he asked God for forgiveness, felt as if he were forgiven, so why did he need to answer to the AoG leaders. They said to do it or leave. He left and became "independent" or "non-denominational". My family (and a bunch of others) left with the head youth paster, Glenn Berteau, and started Hosanna First Assembly.
He was suspended for two years and ordered to undergo counseling, but he refused to accept it, so the Assemblies of God revoked his ordination. He should’ve resigned from the start. After the scandal, his presence was going to overshadow the church and everything good they were trying to do.

Swaggart lead a flock of sheep in God’s name, he knew he had been caught and chose to say nothing until the person who caught him went public with it. Not only that, but he did the same thing three years later, and this time he said, “The Lord told that it’s flat none of your business.” Given all that we now know, I feel like Mr. Swaggart was never sorry he did what he did, he was sorry he got caught.

I've been to his church at camp meeting a few times and he has a wonderful house of God. When I went, I felt God's presence really strong. If God forgave the sins of King David, He forgives us of our sins as well. All we have to do is confess our sins to God and He will forgive them and remember them no more.
If this guy truly was a Christian he would have just issued a brief apology to his congregation and resigned with honor. Instead he tries to talk his way out of it and humiliates his family in the process.

I saw Jimmy Swaggart in 1984 and I loved Him preaching the Gospel. Yes, Satan was very much after him, and at one point he got Jimmy and threw him into the dirt. But because it is written in 1John 1,9: "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." I beleive God saw Jimmy's repentance and forgave him. Praise be to God for His great Love.
