    Wow, impressive landing in that tight LZ, well done! You forgot to press spacebar to report visual on the firebase, so when crown called you activated both triggers. A few tips: You really wanna fly either above 1500 feet or below 3, you never know what you run into. Also, you can use the 'level autopilot' function while you check the map or fiddle with the radios. One more thing: if you click on the red circle map markers they'll say what they are. Looking forward to the 2nd mission :)

    Hi :) I am a commercial heli pilot. It was fun to watch. I was looking for other stuff but CZcams has that talent of making you end up watching very different topic from where you started from ,hahaha. Anyway, You really want to land into wind as much as possible , especially with helis. So when you see the smoke it gives you the wind direction. That is why popping flares is great to locate pax in case of emergency but also give us an idea what the wind is doing at the LZ. If there is no smoke , look from ripples on the water if there is in your sim, or the way the trees bend. anything to help you land into wind as much as possible. Same for straight in autos of 180 auto's . keep the blue side up bud :) Happy flying . If you really love helis, maybe you should try to get some real world time. I am pretty sure you'll love it. If you do not fancy R22's try CB300 or CBI 300 . The latter is a small training heli but absolutely fantastic, a zillion times better than the R22. The R22 is good to familiarize yourself you low yourself with teetering rotor blades system like the Huey . they don't like low pushovers!!!! Blades go one way and you the other.. The Schweizers 300 series are fully articulated rotor systems. And there is a china hat switch to trim like in the bigger boys! Once you get your Single piston rotorcraft , get a rating in a 206 or the like. They are still some UH-1's here and there in the US, South Africa, Australia and a few other countries. If this is a dream go chase it bud ! Time flies :)
    Practice emergencies.Stuck pedal, engine failures, tail rotor failures, Skid on take off with low manifold, skid on lading and all the good stuff. Regarding all the info, we heli pilot have to just remember it all for the most part. The only thing that does not do anything on your body in a heli in attached to you between your legs :))))). Eyes scan, ears listen, left hand collective , right cyclic and your feet well on those pedals as you well know lol. You can use the LAP but better keep your eyes where they matter most or delegate to the due next to you :)
    For confined areas landing, try this : 500ft ROD for 50 kts, 400ft ROD for 40 kts and so on till 10 . This way you'll never settle in with power in vortex ring and or bend your skids up to your ears lol.
    Check your temp and alt before departure to make up for density altitude and cross reference with your chart for your Vne that day. 2 Check how much manifold you are pulling at your base empty and in ground effect, 2 do that same with 100 kg on board. Now you know how much that day 100kg cost you in manifold. Now you can do that maths with your fuel burn and the pax to pick up.
    If you are too heavy, do a skid on TO. You have to grind the left skid, then the right, rinse and repeat till you get faster, eventually you will get into TL around 14 kts, milk it till 60 kts and very gently start your climb, emphasis on very gently :) K later bud .

      Yes would be a great experience to learn, altho it would be a bit too expensive for me to start learning at this point I think (& oddly I have a flying phobia haha) I do know of a few who have gone through the r22 & 44s training & always looks a treat. What an exercise in frustration. I am happy to see you experienced the exact same set of circumstances. 60 minutes into my mission (most of which was trying to find that hidden firebase) my mouse went off screen as I constantly tried to determine why the FM homing wasn't working. Of course, with all that mouse movement, DCS lost focus, and I had zero control. Boom (VR Player), Down she went. #primalscream.
    I see Reflected recommends the autopilot cheat. I also didn't know the map markers could be clicked. Looks like I get to do this all over again. 🤬

    FWIW, Start Fuel switch is normally just to the right of the Main Fuel switch. You turn it back off as ToT passes through 450 degrees or just after you let off the starter at N1 40%, whichever comes first. The DCS Huey doesn't model this, as you discovered. Great video!

    Lankypilot77 I am so glad you posted this video. I just downloaded this campaign today, after multiple crashes in the hills clipping trees, I then thought I was on the home run to completing the mission. The trouble was after landing at the US Naval hospital helipad and coming to a complete roadblock it took your video to remind me that there is in fact the real “Guam Memorial hospital which was where I was supposed to land at. The frustrating thing was that there is meant to be an option to skip to the next mission if you cannot complete it, but I had no luck with that “F10 radio option. This was meant to be the “milk run” so If I cannot complete the next harder missions can somebody, please show me how to skip to the next mission?
    I love how your “unscripted video portrays the real “where the hell am I meant to be feeling I also experienced flying this 1st mission, and I am most impressed by your landings in 2d where I have enough trouble coming into those tight landing areas with the benefit of a sense of depth from flying in vr.

    • @lankypilot778
      @lankypilot778  Před 2 lety

      Haha yes the extra weight carrying this campaign than what im used to has me extremely nervous over tree tops! Its very much muscle memory flying Huey for me & the added weightd has changed it up so having to adjust a lot. Yes I was lucky to remember Guam hostpital from a driving tour when comparing to real one so had assumed that was the one, but make sure you also tune your direction finder radio in & following needles should help get you there. You might have to post about the skipping mission issue on the forum for Reflected if not working, havent tried it yet. If still get stuck you can load missions in the editor too. Look in main dcs folder > mods > campaigns > Paradise lost > missions. Not ideal as dont get the campign completion recorded but can play any mission that way ( just dont look at the mission map setup & hit fly mission). Often im so fatigued after mission I hit esc & accidently press quit to desktop after mission & not register it with an added scream haha, so have had to do this number times in campaigns. Also if theres a bug can be handy. Jealous about vr! Yet to experience the depth you speak of. Good luck Michael!

      Check your kneeboard where the location is marked, and also on the F10 map. Look for red circles and click on them to see what they are. Or you can use FM homing. Don't skip any missions, there's no fun in that ;)

    • @lankypilot778
      @lankypilot778  Před 2 lety

      I think worlds apart campaign has its copilot doing it from memory. All chopper pilots from training are taught manage their radios as part workload so I'd imagine its probably second nature even in this situation, altho not 100% myself what actual sop was. I think Reflected said this was part of experience/challenge he wanted in an intro vid. There is not a huge amount switching in there & can get copilot to fly level if wish while do so to make it easier
