Love my ENGL Ironball amp! I have the original from a few years ago and it still sounds massive with 4x12 Orange cab and I cannot even crank it to past noon without shattering my ears. Myth of 100 watt amps are gone and we need more smaller watt amps.
Engl wins in my opinion
The fact that the ENGL and the Mesa, both powered by el84's, could come close to the MT15 and it's 6L6 driven amp, with two powerful transformers, blows my mind. Thank you for making this video! I have been been using the MT 15 exclusively for 4 years, but your video helped me decide to pull the trigger on this ENGL. Thank you.
Thanks for commenting. It was my pleasure making this video. I'm so glad you got some good information from it.
I like the more condensed format you went with here. Gets straight to the point.
Thank you. I'm gonna try to keep doing that for you guys. Sorry about the late reply
Now THAT was a killer shootout dude! They all sound fantastic! There's so many options available for guitarists now it's like "sensory overload" man. There's the Kemper Stage that I'm still kicking myself for getting rid of, the Fractal FM3, Quad Cortex - never ending.
I just picked up a Mesa Simul - Class 2:90 power amp and this thing is just killer man. The Synergy gets a 3rd testicle from this thing, and the Helix by itself reminds me how excellent it sounds. I've been using it for switching and effects mostly foregoing the amp modelling - but there's just so much great gear. Thanks for sharing your non-biased, no BS thoughts and all this gear with us! I know you really put a lot of time (and money) into your channel content and you're definitely upper-echelon, top-tier, professional in everything you do man! Plus you're an absolute MONSTER guitarist brother! Keep doing the good stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🤘😁🤘
Love this video and the quick format is great!
Thank you!!
I definitely like the Engl Ironball. I really like that new riff you play in this video. I remember that you came up with that riff during the live stream with the purple nightmare amp. That is a mean sounding riff! I have it stuck in my head!🤟🏻
Personally the MT15 slays. I put a transformer in mine and made it a 50 and to be honest it kills my Mesa badlander
My buddy also did this mod to their MT15. What a powerhouse.
Man, I absolutely love your videos!
Thank you!! I absolutely love your comment ❤️
I gotta watch this after work
Great shootout man!! It’s a REALLY TOUGH choice between the Mark v and the Ironball for me ugh I have some thinking to do lol
In Europe the price (1700) of the Mk V 25 is the price of a 100 watt ENGL, the Ironball 606 SE (1100), the MT 15 is about 600. The sound of the Ironball to my ears was the best.
Came late to this party but this video is golden. I am just curious as to what you find so much different between this Mark v25 and the Mark V 90 which you did not seem to be very happy with in another of your videos, that was surprising. Also do you have a preference between the Ironball and the Fireball, I am torn between those two.
Enjoying the channel tons.
Very good comparison! To me the ENGL sounded better without the pedal engaged; it's already so tight sounding its frequency gets too limited both in highs and lows with the pedal. The PRS MT-15 was best with pedal and seems like a versatile amp!
You did have the pedal engaged when listening to the room sound right?
Engl sounded great... It seemed the OD added a lot of noise to all three... just me?
Nice video. I have the MT and 5:25, was looking at the Ironball. You just hit my questions, thx!!!
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed the video
@@TONEWARSgearshow You know how to rock bud!!!
This makes me love my MT15 even more. 🤘🏾🎸🔥
It's definitely a great amp
@@TONEWARSgearshow I just saw PRS advertising their HX 50 & and HX 100! Who do we need to bribe to let you demo one for a review and shoot out?!?!
The PRS basically has a 50 watt power section and is also running 6L6 tubes. I have a Marshall JCM800 mini head and that runs EL34’s and is much bigger sounding than other heads in the lunchbox range. I run my 800 out of a 4X12 Splawn cab and man… it rocks for sure. I have my eye on the Engl as I already owned a PRS Mt15 and sold it for a Mesa Boogie mini rectoverb with a Mesa 2X12… sold that also.. in reality as I’m not slamming any amp at all(I mean it’s all how your ears hear it) but the PRSMT15 is quite possibly one of loudest amps you will hear.. it’s ridiculously loud.. my 800 is very loud also and since I don’t have them both to compare anymore I will say the PRS at 15 Watts (BS lol) might be louder. Anyway good video.
Thanks for commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I agree, the PRS MT15 is, in my opinion, the best sounding Mini amplifier out there.
If I didn’t have the budget the mt15 is sick. I got the ENGL last week it’s a fantastic amplifier.
Ok I own a mesa mark V35 and the prs mt15 but I have to say you’ve peaked my interest on the engl ironball, it sounds so damn good.
Tonight as an experiment i’m gonna run an experiment, I’m take the preamp sound from my Mesa and slave out to prs mt15 and hear the resulting sound from it.
That sounds like fun. Let me know what you come up with.
@@TONEWARSgearshow apparently it killed him
does the V35 kills the MT15 ??
ENGL is killing it!
What was your settings on the mt15?
These all sound pretty good for being lunch box amps. I've owned the Peavey 6505MH, Bugera G5, and H&K GM40 DLX. I didn't really care for any of them. The MT15 seems like pretty good value here and even the Ironball price can be justified with all its features, but the Mesa just seems a bit overpriced. You can get an EVH 50w stealth brand new with money left over for pedals for the same price as the MK5 25w.
SLO 30 if price was less would win but almost 3k for a lunchbox amp is ridiculous pricing.
Is that a Mindprint in the right on the desk ?
PRS MT15 the cheapest too.. I love mine
Engl all the way for me.
Awesome video! Thanks so much. I went with MT15 because it has this cool feature the others do not always have… which is you can actually find them ‘in stock’!! Also PRS switched the 6 x preamp tubes to JJ tubes little while ago, so they are going to be less affected by the tube shortages. Also i just got a EHX mig-50 as a clean pedal platform before they run out of stock, … talk about the two of the best value for money amps!
"Lets get started" ::face melting riff::
I have the 5150 LBX Stealth, do you think MT15 is a great addition? Or you they are sound close?
The MT15 is definitely a great addition. It's the fullest/biggest sounding mini amp IMHO
@@TONEWARSgearshow Thanks for your reply!!! I can't get Mesa Boogie Mark V25 so do you think MT15 is as close as I can get? --- maybe just add EQ. I found my LBX Stealth + EQ won't just cut it, still sound bloomy as I want more saturated sound of MarkV25. I'm already considering MT15
what a bout crunch/midgain/just breaking up tones?
My 15 is Bad ass 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
For the Price MT15 all the way.
Mt15 vs mini invective vs mh 6505 vs Ceriatone son yeti goooo 🔥💣
I liked the 6505mh over the MT15 because i hate a lot of low mids but it's nowhere as loud.
What settings are you using on the ENGL? I have one, but for the life of me cannot make it sound anything like I hear it here. I'm thinking about running it with a Fryette PS 100 to make it larger venue capable. Any thoughts on using that combo? Thanks for all you do.
Good question. Sorry, it's been a while since I've done this video so I don't remember the settings at all. I wish I could be more help.
To your question about running it into another power amp, that sounds like an interesting combination. I've never done anything like that before... if you try it, let me know how it works out. Best of luck to you
@@TONEWARSgearshow Thank you so much for answering my question; figured as much regarding the time passed since the video. I will let you know how my experiment goes. Plan on trying it the weekend after next. I was searching your page for a demo of the Friedman JJ 100 to no avail. Have you demoed that head and it's a case of me being blind?
@@jeffhirshberg5171 My pleasure. Yes, I have demoed that amplifier. I demoed the small version and the full sized version.
I'll try to find the videos and post the links here

@@TONEWARSgearshow Thank you so much.
If a boost pedal was going to be used what is the best one for the ENGL Ironball SE?
I'd try the ODD BOX
@TONEWARSgearshow thank you, I appreciate that
Mt15 wins for me
No peavey 6505mh or invective mh? Those and the mesa mini rectifier are the best of all of them. The prs mt15 is a beast . but try the first 3 i mentioned then tell us your opinion. Not being a jerk i sware. Just saying the top 3 i mentioned are universaly known to be pretty much the best mini heads. But its all subjective to the tone and sound of the individual. We all like different stuff and thst gives us all different tones. Thats the great thing about guitar
mesa got high sizzle not neccessary prs kills
Invective MH.😎
I like it when these people who have been playing instruments and Tube amplifiers in any amplifiers for years give their expert opinion.
Then you have these other ones I guess they want to make sure they keep their fan base. They say well what do you think did this one sound better or did that one sound better. Here's the deal you can have the most expensive studio equipment and the guy on the other end can have the most expensive audio equipment put CZcams streaming is crap. Even if you get the upgraded stuff it's still crap they don't do anything but get rid of commercials they're not going to now or ever. So yes I need an expert opinion. It's like the difference in a Led Zeppelin CD you bought in a truck stop that's got some MP3 crappy engineered CD and you go home and you play it on a $20,000 audio system and their systems out there that exceed that far exceed that. And then you wonder why that Led Zeppelin CD sounds like s h i t well that's why.
Engl Engl Engl Engl Engl Engl Engl Engle
The Mesa sounds like shit. The ENGL sounds amazing. The MT15 sounds like a recto.
