This was really interesting. I'm an esk8 builder, and since we build much smaller packs than what an ebike can carry, we have smaller p-groupings, like 2, 3, 4, 5p, etc, with the biggest boards holding 10p, 12s. As a result, we have to use high drain cells most of the time- the 21700 format is most often used. Specifically, the Molicel P42A, and Samsung 40t. Very good cells.
If you can find them. It's nice to be able to use mid drain cells. They are so much more common.

May I request a similar video for 21700 cells? Or is it too soon? 😄
I'm asking because there's a lot of talks in the electric unicycle community about the properties of high capacity LG vs Samsung cells, especially regarding their behavior under load and in cold climate.
Some insight will certainly be appreciated.
Also I recently got a cheap Chinese electric scooter with a 52V 28.8 Ah pack, advertised as using Panasonic 4800 mAh 21700 cells.
To my surprise a capacity test confirmed the specs, and it delivers on both range and performance. I don't know yet about aging tho.
Maybe there's pretty good and affordable 21700 Panasonic cells available in China.

Maby, but there are so few good 21700, they are expensive and hard to come by. BUT i have ordered EVERY 18650 and 26650 Lifepo cell i could find on aliexpress and will do testing of those. Panasonic does not make 21700 with heat shrink tubing that you can buy. The ones around are fakes or rewrapped used tesla cells or only for wire bounding machines.

10yr old Sanyos made with 15yr old chemistry cant match the newer cells you are comparing them with. Try a couple of Sanyo NCR18650BL or GA instead. If you need some real power the NCR21700A and B are hard to beat. Take a look at Metabo LiHD 8Ah packs and the insane power capabilities. 3200w from a 5s2p pack.. Even the 6-7yr old packs with the older 20700A delivers over 100A sustained.
The best Sanyo batteries are world class, but expensive. Not worth it for normal use like a cordless drill or ebike. For my bike battery I would probably choose Samsung 35E/50E or Panasonic NCR18650BD. Very good value.
BTW: Sanyo cells have markings just like others but it can be a real pita to read as they are laser etched into the shrink wrap. Right angle of light and a magnifying glass is highly recomended. Or you can just google the color as they are color coded. The 4 letters mentioned in the video are date codes.

Where do you live? Cells are always second market first come, first served and stock always run low or old. Sometimes buying used is the best option, good price and often grade A/genuine. Ive done several 18650/26650/21700 aliexpress videos but sellers dissapears. Queen battery sells most brand cells and can be trusted but with express shipping you are looking at double or tripple the cost of any regional seller. Who ever you buy from, make sure to test the cells first. czcams.com/video/hhy-HnCpwHo/video.html
