Thank you so much! My mechanic said that the valve covers had to be removed to replace the spark plugs on my Kia. He seated the gasket poorly on one side and it leaked oil immediately. When I pulled over a 1/2 mile away to investigate the smoking oil I found an oily rag stuffed into the engine compartment. I've always said that if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself and thanks to CZcams and my neighbor friend, Rhonda, I have become much more savvy working on my vehicles. Girl power!

Early morning and watching this video without the audio. Video alone is very helpful. These types of videos are Godsends to those needing to do such procedures.

Er, no...this only works for 2003-2006 Sorentos with the 3.5L v6. In 2007, there was a new 3.8L v6 that is different. In 2010, in the US, it went to a completely different, front drive, platform.

Thank y'all so much! Every other guide on this has you remove the entire air intake manifold. You can't swap the wires with this method but it sure as hell beats taking apart that damn manifold. The other commenter is correct though this only applies to 03-06 with the 3.5l DOHC. And y'all, replace the throttle body gasket when you put it back on.
Edit: I managed to do this without removing the oil dip bolt and just unbolting the brackets for the wires instead of disconnecting them on that side of the engine. All the plastic is so brittle that pulling them apart meant replacing it, and that just wasn't feasible today. Just wanted to share this for anyone else with this issue. Also if you want to do the wires as well you can run them behind the manifold, at least thats what the shop who worked on my sorento before did and that's what I did too. Coil/wire failed due to corrosion on the contacts that connect the two together so doing it this way doesn't seem to impact the wires too much. The other two were still in good condition.

@@debrawalker9751 sounds like the misfire I had. Go to pretty much any parts store and ask for a code read to confirm. If it is a misfire, you need to replace the spark plugs, ignition coils, and plug wires. It cost me about $650 at a shop a few years ago, and I just did it myself last week for about $150 or so in parts. Coils from amazon plugs/wires from autozone.

This video only applies to kia-mitsubishi 3.5L used in 2003-2006 Sorento engines!! I believe on Sedona with the same engine is another procedure!

  • @cudak888

Applies only to the 2003-2006 BL-chassis Sorentos with the Mitsubishi-based 2.5L. Not the same for the 2007-2009 refresh models (BL Gen 1.5) that used the Hyundai Lambda V6.

although its pretty straight forward i would not only change all plugs with exact numbers i would search for possible coil/plug kit as well. as others have said reusing throttle body gasket is false economy. with throttle body removed now would be a good time to clean its bore and throttle plate.
