    Drove these and the Colorado Z71. At $50k the Chevy/GMC are a no brainer BUT I wanted to point out a major ace up the sleeve for the Frontier that is actually making this a difficult decision for me. The driving "feel". The hydraulic steering and suspension on the Frontier felt significantly better while driving. I felt numb and disconnected on the Chevy/GMC but loved everything else about them, especially the tech, interior quality, looks and performance. Since driving is what i'll be doing 99% of the time, I'm actually leaning toward the Pro4x IF I can get one at a reasonable price (around the $38k msrp) if not, I'm likely going with the z71. I'm also fortunate enough to have an M2 Comp as well when I want the luxury/performance so it's not needed in my work horse.

    • @ToddCotta

      The PRO4X in this video is a replacement buy back trade from Nissan. Dustin's original Nissan Frontier was red. At 50 miles the motor would overheat and then go into limp mode. Nissan bought his back and he got this.

    In the midsize category bigger and wider isn’t always what people want. I like both trucks but I think the Nissan in Baja Storm pulls off the sand colour better. Equally equipped the Frontier is thousands less expensive and for that reason it’s a close call. Agree with the steering wheel being outdated on the Frontier. Smoother engine with the V6. Price wise this compares more with the Elevation

    I work at a gmc dealership and boy does the new canyons feel much nicer than the previous gens. Very comfortable to drive in. I always criticized on how small the steering wheel is and how the steering wheel feels because it has that weird leather feel on all gmc trucks, but too me the steering wheel on the new canyons are bigger in size and the grip on it is great too. Driving gmc on a daily I feel like the steering wheel feels a little heavy or stiff while turning. Definetly not the new canyon I would get the canyon at4, however I want to wait until the new 2024 tacoma gets released and see what new specs are on those, especially if it comes with a hybrid engine.

    I just bought a 2023 Nissan frontier SV, I like it for its simplicity and I don’t go off reading and I don’t need to haul more than 3 tons so it works for me. I also wanted a natural aspirating V6 engine and Nissan has the best hp for that, I do gotta say though the new Colorado and canyons are nice especially with the more powerful hp and torque. GM has upped their game and I don’t know if Toyota will reach those power train numbers with a turbo engine ( it will be close) but I think it will go more towards fuel efficiency with a hybrid. Both of these trucks are killer vehicles and will do 99% of anything anyone would ever need to do. Is there a better truck? Yes, the Canyon is a better truck. It's that simple. But does "better" mean its the only choice? Or that somehow the Nissan is bad? No, they're both incredible. Best comparison video that I've seen so far. I can tell you I was leaning toward the Nissan but after your review and comments I may have to relook at the GMC. 2024 will be an interesting year as Ford ,Honda and Toyota are refreshing their midsize pickups, and from what I hear, possibly Nissan doing a refresh to keep up. I think the NA engine in the Nissan is a big plus since GM hasn't had a good history with their turbo engines. However it seems the market and manufacturers are leaning toward the 4 cyl turbo charged offerings in this category. I wished the Frontier would come out lifted from the factory, but I know I can add 1.5" to it with an aftermarket kit that's reasonably priced.

      I come a family full of mechanics. I guarantee you that little turbo will not out last the naturally aspirated V6. My last truck was a F250 7.3 diesel. It was a great truck. Yes there are things American car builders do better, but not in this realm and they never have. When I need a diesel I’ll by American again. When I need a small gas saver I’m buying Toyota or Nissan. Not a fan of Honda but that just a preference.

    Turbo 4 will always usually take you on the line. But honestly they both have about the same HP. But the Nissan will outlast that turbo 4 easily. Rather have that in a midsize pickup.

      Funny thing is his previous '22 Frontier was lemon law buy back because of the motor. These days the motors in these trucks are all about the same, look at the problems Toyota Tundra is having with all of their motors blowing up. Nothing is what it seems when it comes to quality anymore. Thanks for commenting!

    Wouldn’t the pro 4x be compared to the at4x?

    • @ToddCotta
      @ToddCotta  Před 2 měsíci

      The PRO4X is actually much less than even the standard AT4. The Pro4X is a base model truck that really cant complete. A better comparison would be the Chevy Z71 4x4.

    In the real world, you’re comparing a $52000 truck (GMC) to a $40000 truck (Nissan). Value comes to mind as well

    • @ToddCotta
      @ToddCotta  Před 4 měsíci

      I said that in the video, but you can build a $46k AT4 and $46K Frontier. So it is not that simple. Plainly stated, the top line of the Nissan does not have an interior nearly as nice as the base model GMC Canyon Elevation. Nissan is just not as refined as the Canyon. Thanks for watching!

    That GMC is bad ass but the reliability with the turbo on a 4 banger on a truck is worrisome just because its fast does not mean it is strong BIG DIFFRENCE Nissan all the way for reliability and price.

    The one thing they Didn't tell you is There is about a ten thousand dollar difference in the price of those two trucks with the GMC being ten thousand dollars higher.

    • @ToddCotta
      @ToddCotta  Před rokem

      I can build the same truck with more options to make the price within $1k. Adding leather, and some other options makes it $48500. I didn't have a choice in the truck, it was what was there. One thing is true, same motor, same dash and doors, same suspension. That is what we were looking at. Thanks for watching!

    That wasn't really a review, that was here's a Nissan and here's why my GMC is better. You were definitely that guy. Not much objectivity. What is the MSRP of both as tested ? What options? What packages? Tow package and rating ? Fuel economy. Pros and cons. ( Spare tire hangs out on GMC)
    The drag race was a joke. Young guy had no idea how to start. ( Top Fuel uhhhh no ) you should have driven the Nissan and actually tried.
    Analog tach and speedometer last longer . Touch screens , they are ridiculously expensive when they go out. GMC was dash is too busy.
    The interior looks nicer on the GMC . But things like the steering wheel being unchanged, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
    The manufacturers are using turbos 4's because they are cheaper to pass emissions with the power. Not because they are better. Like front wheel drive, it's cheaper, not better. Never seen a turbo 4 in a dually or F250/350 , 3500/2500 . Heavy duty and durability needs to be as understressed as possible, like a naturally aspirated medium sized V6 .
    I looked at all the midsized trucks and for the money the Frontier 4x4 SV Long Bed ( tow package standard) was a better deal . The spare tires hang out? I have bed lighting and an outlet for 39.5k

    This is really not comparison video. This is more bashing Nissan and putting GMC on pedestal. Everything they criticized in Nissan I love. The GMC on the other hand has the infotainment screen looking like after thought…just sticks up like a brick. The GMC 4cyl turbo is a huge deal breaker. No turbo engines have long term reliability. I love the simplicity of Nissan. The GMC is a no go for me. Plus, they admitted the GMC had 2inch lift but they still compared the height of the undercarriage?! 🤣..makes no sense but OK…i guess.

    • @ToddCotta
      @ToddCotta  Před 2 měsíci

      I said many nice things about the NISSAN. Just know that this was his second truck because the first Frontier they purchased was lemon lawed. The Nissan is a good truck but the interior is inferior, although It does have better back seat storage, but leg room is the same. And finally, It is a good work truck, the GMC Not so much. It is not not as refined and elegant as the GMC. Price is maybe a few thousand less for top tier trucks, but resale is better for the GMC. Thanks for commenting!

    What mid size would all of you buy if you needed a 4 door with a 6'+ bed?

    • @ToddCotta
      @ToddCotta  Před rokem +1

      This is not the best time to be asking that question because they're all changing so fast. GM does not offer any 6 ft beds anymore in the small trucks. But the new ranger is unknown. The new Tacoma is unknown and I think you can get a six foot bed in the Nissan. But with all the things changing so fast it's hard to determine what's coming up.

      @@ToddCotta yeah, I know. Bad move on GMs part. Ford is making 24 Ranger with 6' supposedly. Toyota wouldn't dare drop theirs. Many contractors use them (exterminators, etc).

    I honestly don’t see how this is a fair comparison. The GM will be long gone while the Nissan will still be running. My buddy is a master mechanic and he wouldn’t touch a newer GM, Ford or Ram product and he is a GM fan.

    • @ToddCotta
      @ToddCotta  Před 8 měsíci

      The Nissan that was in this video was brand new because the prior one he purchased was a lemon. It was a factory buyback because it kept overheating. In the modern day trying to say that one truck is somehow more reliable or better than another truck is probably not a good argument to make. But thanks for commenting. I appreciate it bud.
